Rated 4 out of 5 by RedPhos With better delivery.... I did a lot of research for a compact refrigerator w/out a freezer as these, in my opinion, are worthless. Especially if this will be used for beers/sodas and not for all typical grocery products. So it is a nice product, although when I got it back to the house and unpacked there were two 6" dents in the front door of the frig... shipping of these units seems to be an issue. If you can survive the shipping then the units are really nice, good storage and good appearance. This one is going back... will give it one more try. 02/26/2011
Rated 2 out of 5 by justanotherrandomreviewer Bad manufacturing leads to damaged units So I had an old version of the fridge that I used to convert into a kegerator. There are many many plans online for modifying this unit into a kegerator, but I initially built mine before the internet plans were so widely available. It lasted for 10+ years, and while customizing it (kegerator owners will tell you that it's almost as much about the tinkering as it is about the beer!# I nicked a refrigerant line and ruined it. Having all the parts for building a new one I initially purchased a "Scratch/Dent" on ebay. The ebay add had pictures of the damage, crush damage on the lower back corners. The unit I received from ebay also had compressor damage. The compressor made a god-awful racket and the crush damage was far worse then advertised. I sent it back to the ebay store the sold it to me and got a full refund.My next option was to buy a new unit, and in spite of the reviews warning of shipping damage and bad packaging, I did indeed think I'd get "lucky" and get a unit that wasn't damaged.Sure enough the unit I got from Walmart was damaged as well. Not being terribly concerned about some cosmetic damage that I could cover up with strategic placement of the unit, I plugged it in..and it's compressor made the same god-awful noise.So I returned that one as well, and have purchased #waiting for delivery# the new Danby 5.8 kegerator. It was MUCH more expensive, but my wife offered me some Christmas money to offset the difference in cost.In summary, I don't think the fault is Walmart's or the shippers #UPS/Fed Ex#, I think it's the manufacturers. Sanyo needs to do two things:1) reinforce the cabinet framing around the compressor. The thin sheetmetal walls of the cabinet do not have enough compression strength to withstand the stacking of these units, and they're all getting damaged in the same place..presumably from stacking. Add in the likelihood that these things get put on pallets and pallets stacked on pallets and you have a recipe for multiple damaged units before they even leave the factory.2) Beef up the shipping packaging. There was MINIMAL and tattered styrofoam protection and the sidewalls/backwalls/front door all had nothing more then a single layer of cardboard as protection. Also the packaging needs some reinforcement along the back side in order to further prevent this crush damage problem.This unit #at this price point# was appealing to a niche group of kegerator builders, and given my recent experience Sanyo has lost not only a customer in me, but many many friends whom I might have steered toward this unit for their own kegerator builds.Given the number of "damaged in shipping" comments in these reviews, I wonder: Is ANYBODY reading these things from the corporate side?Photo below is the damage from the ebay unit, but it's almost identical to the damage #though somewhat more severe because the compressor was knocked off it's mounts# the Walmart unit had: 12/08/2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by MacDRacer Great home brew keg setup I read online that this is one of the best for a home brew keg setup and they are right. I drilled the 2 3/4 inch hole about 2 inches to the front of the exact center in the top of this fridge. It seemed the line in the top of mine was closer to the center, so I moved the hole forward just to be sure.Poured first glass this evening through the draft tower and it was awesome.$250 for the fridge, $100 for the draft tower and couple bucks for a few misc parts and I have a sweet dual tap keg fridge for my home brew. :)I cannot rate the durability yet, since it's only been running for a month, but the fridge seems to be solid. Keeps two home brew kegs at 38 degrees without much of a fuss. 05/21/2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by BeverageTime The Perfect Small Refrigerator This is actually the second unit we purchased. The last one went with the house we sold by request of the buyer. We didn't want a freezer section, which allows more room for beverages. We use it in our basement bar and sometimes to store extra items from our kitchen fridge. There's plenty of space in the door for larger items, the can dispenser is a nice feature, and the shelves are removable and adjustable. It is more spacious than it looks. Other compact refrigerators with similar features are usuallly far more expensive. It's so good I bought it twice. 03/12/2011
