Sangean Digital AM/FM Table Top CD Player 4.3 5 9 9
Finally! Finally there's a decent alternative to the Bose shelf radio. It's half the price, plus it's sleek and stylish! My entertainment center is now complete. :D 12/30/2010
Sounds Great Fairly easy to use, sounds great; alarm clock feature is hard to set, but we've only had this a few days. 12/28/2009
An excellent product This is an esxcellent radio/cd player. Radio reception is excellent and is the best AM radio I have ever owned, and the FM is at least as good as any others I've had. On certain FM stations it will also provide the song title and artists name, but that is dependent on the station as the Sangean has the ability to provide that iformation on all FM stations.I primarily listen to music (other than radio) on an SD card, a nice feature that looks less cluttered than using the usb drive. Either the sd or usb perform flawlessly, though that could depend on the ripping/recording process and the settings used. All the files I use are mp3s.The cd player may be the only weak link--though for the most part it is excellent. On rare occasions, the ends of songs are clipped on mp3 format cds--though on regular cds I have not experienced this. It is uncommon and not really a major factor since the songs are usually fading out at this point.Inevitably it seems like all radios of this sort are compared to a Bose wave, Since I own both, I will compare them based on my experience1-frills-such as SD card playing, artist and songs names displayed on FM--the Sangean is better2-radio reception-AM the sangean is better, FM is close and it seems like the Sangean is slightly better, though in my case the Sangean has abuilt in external antenna whereas the Bose uses the power cord for an antenna. Both are excellent.3-appearance-I like the Sangean but IMO the Bose looks much nicer4-cd playing-no difference with purchased cds--but the Bose plays home made cds including mp3s flawlessly whereas the Sangean has a rare glitch5-sound-depends on your volume level. The Bose can get much louder. Each sounds clear at all volume levels and at low to mid levels the sound is comparable, in fact the Sangean sometimes sounds a little better, but at high volume the Bose is clearly superior reaching levels the Sangean just isn't capable of reaching-though in fairness the Sangean can get overly loud depending on the listening environment. This is not a bad point on the Sangean-just a superior characteristic of the Bose6-value-since two Sangeans cost about the same as one Bose-for initial purchase the Sangean is a better value, but considering possible resale values in, the Bose may actually be a better dealas an aside-Sangean now has a newer radio/cd player which is much like this one. The new model has no AM radio, but has built in wifi and the ability to record to sd cards as well as play them. I don't own this one but the specifications seems similar enough to this one that I would expect nearly identical performance. Price seems to be about $100 more-so that would place italmost midway between the mr-3 and the Bose wave and unless AM radio is important to you, I would recommnd the newer model 08/21/2011
