    What is a Chromebook PC?
Chromebooks are a new type of computer designed to help you get things done faster and easier. Chromebook starts in seconds, so you can go straight to playing or working.

Chromebook looks like a laptop, feels like a laptop but... differ from the traditional computers as follow:

  • Instead of Window OS or Apple OS, Chromebooks run on Chrome OS, an operating system that has multiple layers of security, cloud storage, and the most popular Google products built-in.
  • Chromebook won't load and run traditional PC applications such as Microsoft office, iTune or Skype. However, Chromebooks use Chrome specific apps for everyday tasks such as create documents, listen to music, edit your photo, chat with friends and family or play games, and there are many more downloadable from the Chrome Web Store. No more buying and installing software - thousands of apps are free, and they stay up to date automatically.
  • Chromebooks has Built-in Virus protection, multiple layers of security, and verified boot help keep you safe from viruses, malware.
  • Chromebooks keeps your files away from your machine and safe online with built-in Google Drive, your files and photos are automatically backed up to the cloud so you won't have to worry about losing them.
  • Chromebook updates itself, for free. So you always have the latest and greatest version. No need for manual downloads and upgrades.
  • Chromebook works seemlessly with Internet. No internet at the moment? Keep getting stuff done when you're disconnected from the web by using offline apps like Gmail and Google Docs.

    Google Chromebook

I got my Chromebook (samsung series 5) shortly after they were released (3-4 years ago) and it has been the best internet appliance I"ve owned. I didn't call it laptop purposely - it isn't a laptop. It has no programs, but uses apps from the google market that can be added or removed in a heartbeat when ever the need arises. I've been a computer tech for over 20 years and have been through a laptop or two, but I've never had one last this long, without becoming outdated. That's a biggy for me - the Chromebook updates itself ever time you turn it on. The interface is constantly changing a little - if you're the kind that gets upset every time yahoo re designs their web mail then a Chromebook is not for you. If you're the type that lives on the bleeding edge of technology like myself - you'll love it. Recently I just got it duel booting with Chrome and Ubuntu 12.4 LTS so on the rare occasion that I need to do something that Chrome doesn't do (ie Skype) ubuntu takes care of it. The overhaul design is beautiful, the keyboard is very close to a macbook quality keyboard. I'm learning new things about it every day - even after 4 years. That'll never happen with Windoz or Mac without "Paying for an update" When I first got it Chrome didn't even have a desktop. Look at the attached photo of my desktop now. How good?

Its about time Walmart started selling these! I have had this Chromebook for almost a year now and absolutely love it! I bought it in January as a second computer with the intentions of only using it to take notes on in class; that changed real quick. Its crazy how easy it is to get used to this thing. The keys are so nice to type on, the battery lasts all day, and the computer is never slowed down by bloatware, spam or viruses. I love the fact that it automatically saves what your working on (no more essays lost due to battery dying or forgetting to save). This Chromebook is so light that half the time I forget this thing is even in my backpack. My Chromebook gets used (and abused) daily and after almost a year of use it is still as good as it was the first day I bought it. For $250 your getting a lightweight laptop that boots in seconds, lasts over 6 hours on a single charge, never gets viruses and is simple to use. And for those people who complain because it doesn't have Itunes, just convert your music to Google's version of the software or just hack the Chromebook to use Ubuntu and find a program that will store your songs and read your apple devices. Hope this helps!!!

Is this a good laptop for a college student? Does it have a program like Microsoft word with spell and grammar check?
    by Kaitlynn 7/26/2013
    • It has Google Drive and it's great. You can share your document with profs and fellow students. So, if you are working on a joint project, everyone can log in and work on it together, make adjustments etc., so, yes.

    • This is NOT a Windows based PC. It runs nothing like Office, iTunes, or any other software based on Windows. It runs a specially built OS from Google and the Chromium open source project. It is loosely running Linux with Google's own Graphic interface. It is strictly a Google product using Google's ecosystem. Google doc's, Google Play for apps, content, and such. It has limited onboard storage which much of your files are stored through Google Drive. Yes, you can do documents on it and it will open Microsoft Office docs. But Office itself won't run. Printing is also a problem as its ePrint based and you cannot connect directly by cable or WiFi to printers. You must have a ePrint capable printer. The Chromebook's are more useful as a web surfing and email tool then a PC or Mac. As a student I would say spend a bit more for a Windows PC.

    • This runs with the Google Chrome Operating system. Many students would find this to be a great assistance, and others may prefer a laptop model with Microsoft Windows and a little more power. It'd be best to talk further with a Wal-Mart employee about your options for portable computing. Thanks for your interest in Samsung Chromebooks and laptops. --Mr.Samsung
