This phone is the top dog on At&t. I was a little uneasy about the price at first, but once you dive into this thing. It is worth every penny spent. I love the slim and slender design of the phone, and the white variant ( the one I have ) is just a head turning device. Since purchase i have gotten nothing but good comments on the device. Someone even told me they were jealous that i had it in my possession. Overall i have no cons or complaints about the device other than i would prefer a 1.5 GHz daul-core "Exynos" and not a "Snapdragon"

Customer has been confirmed to have purchased the item from Walmart.

I ordered two of these for Christmas gifts using the site to store feature. When they arrived at the store, the associate opened them in front of me. One was in a skyrocket box, had been opened, had writing and white out on the inside and the accessories didn't match in color! The other one was in a generic box, had a Galaxy label on the outside, was unsecured in the box and rattling around. I did not accept the first one. The second one I decided to try, took it home, tried to charge it and was unsuccessful as it showed a big orange triangle with a line through it. Took that one back also. Was very disappointed as I'm fairly sure I was charged full retail and was sent reconditioned, previously used phones. Returned both, bought something else. Unfortunately, I didn't get to use the Skyrocket so am unable to review the phone itself.

A great phone--but old technology

I bought my S II Skyrocket directly from AT&T in 2012 when my iPhone died. This was the perfect iPhone replacement and actually so much better. Like most Samsung Galaxy S phones, this is a fantastic smartphone. But before you buy just be aware that this phone was released to the market in 2011, and has been surpassed by the Galaxy S III, S IV and S V. Samsung should be coming out with the S VI any day now. Should this be a deal breaker? You have to use your own judgment. Yes, it is a good price for a smartphone, but it is also a smartphone with 3 year old technology/performance. If this phone fits your budget and you're aware that it is not exactly state-of-the-art, then go for it. Personally, I'd like to see a major price drop (say between 50 and 100 USD) before I'd tell people to run out and get it. This phone ships with an older version of Android, but you can easily upgrade it to a newer version on the Samsung website (or perhaps from your carrier's website). It has a great display, great camera, fast processor and lots of onboard RAM. Just keep in mind that smartphones (including Galaxy S models) that have been released since 2011 have even better displays, better cameras, faster processors and more onboard RAM. This model takes an old-school SIM card, while more recent smartphones (and more recent Galaxy S models) take mini-SIM cards. This might be an issue if you are planning on transferring contacts or other data stored on a mini SIM card; you'll have to find a work-around. When I bought this phone in 2012, I had no problem buying replacement batteries, a case and screen protectors. I suspect that it might be difficult to find cases to fit the phone now simply because so many newer Galaxy S models have been released. I recall having difficulty viewing the screen in bright daylight which was annoying but easily remedied by turning away from the sun. My only complaint is that the phone died suddenly one day and I could not revive it. Because it is 3 years old, it doesn't make sense to spend the $ to see if it can be factory repaired. The phone died during the 19th month of a 24 month AT&T contract, so I'm limping along with a lesser phone for a few months. Once my contract period ends I'll renew my contract with AT&T and be eligible for a newer Galaxy S model for about the same amount of money that this phone is currently selling for.

When this phone is on it's "A" game, it's the best in the market. However, mine has gotten relatively glitchy in the last month or so. Sometimes it will freeze up completely, causing me to perform a battery pull (something I didn't thing I would need to do anymore after getting rid of my Blackberry) and other times it becomes frustratingly unresponsive for five to ten minutes at a time. If you use the phone heavily, like I do, the battery lasts only 6-8 hours. If you can manage to barely use it at all you can get a solid 13-14 hours of battery life. One last thing--the stock text messaging software is TERRIBLE. All picture messages come in as slideshows and whenever you search for someone to send a text to, their email will pop up as an option. I don't know how many people prefer picture slideshows or texts in their emails, but I'm not one of them. Having said all of that, the phone is very fast, very lightweight, and overall I'm satisfied with it.

Great phone but not for T-Mobile

Customer has been confirmed to have purchased the item from Walmart.

Although the phone is unlocked it does not give you 4G or even 3G in most T-Mobile areas. According to T-Mobile tech support this will change gradually in the next two years as their towers are being upgraded to accommodate phones bought elsewhere, but if you are looking for high speed data right now and rather not pay the higher AT&T rates you must find one with a T-Mobile logo on it. I read that you could hack the phone radio settings and make it 4G in T-Mobile but I did not want to take the risk and also void the warranty. I returned it which fortunately was easy at Walmart.

  • A. Phone carriers protect themselves by locking their phones to work only in their own network. A good customer can ask for their carrier to unlock the phone to use with overseas SIM cards. Also some companies sell in the US gray imports, phones meant for other markets and sold unlocked. Also, a knowledgeable person can find instructions and unlock their phone without the carrier's consent. An unlocked phone will work is all GSM networks. In the US these are only T-Mobile and AT&T. In the rest of the world most networks are GSM. This is great if you travel and get a local prepaid SIMs e.g. in Europe and make local calls cheaper and receive calls for free. The phone you asked about will work perfectly with AT&T and in most of the world. In T-Mobile it will not necessarily give you 4G data speed in all areas the same way as a phone from T-Mobile would. T-Mobile had some proprietary settings in the towers and only 2G (or EDGE) speed can be accessed with this phone in most T-Mobile areas for now. This will gradually change over the next year or two and then any GSM phone will have 3G/4G everywhere with T-Mobile. I hope this answered the question in full.

  • A. A locked phone is only capable of working with the Carrier it is locked to. An unlocked phone is capable of working with any Carrier providing their services using a SIM Card.
