Customer Product Reviews

Rated 2.8 out of 5★ by 20reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Excellent! The other Reviewers didn't read their Manual. This DVD Player for $124.00 is awesome. It even outperforms my Oppo BDP 83. Beautiful Picture & excellent sound. It only works with a HDMI connector, but all my TVs have an HDMI connector. The wifi is automatic & set-up was immediate. The criticism that it has few Apps is ridiculous; it matches most of the other BD Players available & it has a BROWSER! Here is a Bonus: It enables you to use a full keyboard and mouse to surf the web! I purchased Wal-Mart's ONN wireless unit; one small plug-in device enables both the keyboard & mouse to work-just plug it into the USB Port of the front of the Unit. This is so much faster than using the virtual keyboard & mouse built into the Player unit. The wifi is fast; apparently the other Users must have had problems with their Web Providers & blamed it on the Unit. The Web Apps deliver a great picture-even better than my Roku 1080p Unit. The Remote is terrific but does not light up. This Unit even converts audio files to mp3s (including conversion from a wma to an mp3!); Great. Just plug in a stick to the USB or or a Hard Drive Enclosure & convert & save your audio files. If you watch a movie & hit the Tools button, a pop down menu appears with many options including the ability to jump to any place in the Movie instantly-just type in the minutes and seconds then hit Enter to go to where you want to go. Unfortunately the Unit does not remember where you were if you eject the DVD before it is finished. This is easily solved by writing down the place where you left off in the movie on a piece of paper. When you go back to the Movie, hit tools & take the Option to jump to the place where you left off. There is no noticeable Power Button for the Unit, but if you hit the large eject or Play buttons on top of the unit it turns it on. It automatically connects & syncs the TV's HDMI Input, & when your TV is set to that Input it automatically turns on the Unit-I like this feature. When the TV's Input is set to this Unit & you turn off the TV, it automatically turns off the DVD Player. You can add a USB Port hub to add more USB ports & it works! That is you can plug many devices into the USB Port at one time; Mine increases the USB Port to 4 devices at a time & is very inexpensive-Great! I cannot believe the Quality & features-Read your Manual to understand all the Options. Plug in your external Keyboard & Mouse & have fun. Well worth the money all in a small compact unit. I recommend all the way. The Unit is advanced so read the Manual, learn what all the buttons on the Remote do and enjoy the many features of this Unit. 5 Stars. 06/15/2013
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Speedy Blu-ray with excellent apps I received this blu-ray player as a gift for Christmas, and I am happy to report that is works well. I am impressed with how fast the blu-ray boots. The apps are quick to open for such a device (not as fast as a computer but for a blu-ray it is quick). My TV (a Panasonic) turns on automatically when I turn on the blu-ray player, which I was surprised at since they are different brands. This device does support the use of Netflix proflies (where different users on one account can log into their personalized profile), so if you are a Netflix user then this is good news. I had no problems hooking into the wifi, and it recognized and connected to my 5ghz band on my router, which was nice. Streaming was fine, watched Mulan first thing on it and didn't have any buffering or disconnect issues. No noise from my player as another reviewer experienced, it is quieter than my previous blu-ray (which was a 2nd generation Panasonic, so this is quite the upgrade).I most likely will buy another for our other TV. Great product at a reasonable price. 01/03/2014
Rated 5 out of 5★ by I found the WIFI to be sensitive and easy to set up. I had an internet speed of 7 MBs from Century link and never experienced any breakup or loss of signal. Blu Ray play back as well as standard DVD's were great and upscaling quality was fine. I wish there was an easier method of keyboard entry than was provided. I am very happy with this product. 05/31/2013
Rated 2 out of 5★ by Features are great, but drive noise is too loud. The Good: I found this to be a very nice player for the money. I didn't test the wi-fi, but everything else worked great. The apps were easy to use and YouTube was great. Played movies well and had fast access imo.The Bad: No matter how great everything else about this player is, while playing a movie the drive noise is too loud. I'm not talking about just at the most quiet points during the movie, I can hear this even at what I would call mid volume segments of the movie. During loud action scenes, I don't hear it, but the rest of the time it is way too loud and ruins anything I watch. Conclusion: Nice unit, but is ruined by the too loud drive noise that distracts from anything watched. I'm taking it back. 10/01/2013
Rated 3 out of 5★ by Great except for the wi-fi The quality of playback is fine. The cost relative to the specs is fine. The problem is the quirky wi-fi connectivity.I see that some are dismissing the wi-fi problems as "user error" or internet service problems. This is absolutely not the case in my house. I've used 2 Toshiba laptops, 2 Samsung smartphones, an HTC smartphone, an old Dell laptop, a new Lenovo laptop, a new Acer laptop and a Vizio TV and I've had house guests who've used other laptops, iphones and ipads.... and NONE of these has ever had problems connecting, staying connecting and functioning properly. The Vizio is twice as far from the wireless router and has 3X as many walls to pass through, but it still works for Netflix, etc.My first BD-FM59 worked... for about 2-3 weeks before it started stalling and then dropping completely off the network. Eventually it got so bad that it just wasn't worth wasting my time and frankly it wouldn't even connect at all. I update the firmware and thought I had fixed the problems as it would connect and stay connected to the router, but it wouldn't ever connect to the internet. So we took it back and got a replacement. The 2nd device has never been able to connect, no matter what I do. I'm about to take it back and get a plain blu ray player without wi-fi and instead buy a wi-fi dongle for my smart TV instead.I'm sure this device works just fine for some people, but it didn't for me. And I'm a Samsung fan generally speaking. 11/25/2013
Rated 1 out of 5★ by Not one of Samsung's best Originally I purchased Samsung's BD-F5700 and after setting it up realised it didn't give me the ability to get on the web like I thought; so I exchanged it for this one the BD-FM59. What a MAJOR disappointment! I would get no more than 2 minutes into watching something on Netflix,CinemaNow, etc and it stopped for bufffering/loading and would eventually tell me there was no internet connection while I sat there on my laptop surfing the web without a problem. I had to re-enter my Netflix info everytime I wanted to use it, what a hassle. The remote did work both my tv and dvd player and the Netflix button was nice, but there was no backlight so at night I'd have to have a flashlight. Within 3 days I returned the BD-FM59 and went back to my original purchase (BD-F5700) which I'm VERY happy with. 03/31/2014
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Outstanding Quality & Value Easy set-up and works extremely well. The wi-fi iworks perfectly and set up was easy as 1-2-3.All apps built in work as they should. Had Pandora playing Christmas music as we put up the Christmas tree and holiday decorations today. DVD picture quality is outstanding and optical output for audio made my Sony soundbar sound like I was at a theatre with DTS surround sound. 12/15/2013
Rated 1 out of 5★ by Good for playing blu rays but that's it. This works great as a blu ray player but as far as using the wifi and the apps it's pretty useless. I constantly had to reboot it and do hard resets/manufacturer resets because it would freeze or just randomly shut off. Netflix and Hulu, the apps I use the most, would stop in the middle of programs to load and then say there was a connection error, but under the settings it would say the connection was fine. I would close it out and open it again and it would say there was no connection and I would have to restart the player. When I called to ask them about it they would say it was a Netflix or Hulu issue not theirs, but the programs worked just fine on my computer, phone and other tvs. The web browser didn't work either. I would open it type an address in, it would open the page then immediately go back to the home page then shut down the player. Basically the wifi card is a piece of junk and there is something else wrong with it that I can't explain. Even when I went off wifi and plugged in it still had issues. The only plus sides to it were it could play the blu ray discs and Allshare worked with the majority of my music and all of my pictures. I wouldn't recommend it though and I'm a huge Samsung fan. You win some and you lose some. Good thing Walmart has a great return policy. 05/27/2013
