Rated 5 out of 5 by Can't afford cable? Buy this! Times are tough right now so my husband and I have had to cut back on many expenses, especially the high price of cable. This blu-ray has been a wonderful replacement. With its built-in WiFi, connecting and running this product is very easy. Included in the box is a standard video connection cable but I recommend purchasing an HDMI cable for better picture quality. I bought the HDMI on eBay for under $3.00 with FREE shipping. As soon as your blu-ray is connected to your wireless service, you will be asked if you want to update its firmware. Choose YES! After following the easy instructions, you should be ready to go. You'll have to create a login to access Samsung's Apps but again that is an easy process. While most apps are already downloaded onto this player, I suggest you browse the Apps section on your own because there are a few more FREE ones available for you to download. If you don't have a subscription to NETFLIX, you'll want to get one when you get your player up and running. Netflix movies, documentaries, and TV/Cable shows run flawlessly on this player. All I have to do is add the shows I want to watch onto my "Movie Queue" using my PC and they are immediately ready for viewing from the player. Yes, it may take a minute or so to load but once the movie starts, it plays without any interruptions. For those who have reported streaming problems, I think they may not have a fast enough DSL service to use with this device so you might want to test your bandwidth before purchasing this product. With Netflix, you can watch an unlimited amount of items stored in your Queue at any time for only $8.99 per month. The other Apps are great too. Besides Netflix my other 2 favorites are Pandora and YouTube. The only flaw I see with this player is that I wish it had MORE Apps. I do hope that more Apps are added soon. Other than that, I highly recommend this product. 08/22/2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Product I purchased this on Black Friday to replace an older Magnavox player with no network connection or apps. I tried a VIZIO VBR220 but had to return it (see my review). Pros: Attractive design. Very slim, hidden disk drawer, the Blu-Ray logo on top lights up and looks cool, the Blu-Ray logo on the top that lights up can be turned off, etc... Nice remote. The remote can be programmed to control most TVs, the STOP and PLAY buttons have bumps that make them easy to find. The battery door is attached to the remote so you won't loose it. Multi-channel analog audio outputs let me use my old surround sound receiver which doesn't support any of the new audio standards. Includes a user manual (unlike another Blu-Ray player I tried which made you download it). Easy setup of the built in wireless networking. The secure setup where you push a button didn't work, but selecting my WiFi network and entering the key manually worked first try. Network status is displayed on the front of the player (no annoying onscreen pop ups), and to the best of my knowledge the WiFi connection has never dropped. Worked just fine on my Encore 150N 3G router... unlike the other WiFi enabled Blu-Ray player I tried. No network connection issues at all! Many built in or free downloadable apps (Netflix, Blockbuster, VuDu, Pandora, AccuWeather, Google maps, CinemaNow, MLB.TV, Facebook, YouTube, USA TODAY, Picasa Web Albums, Rovi TV, SPSTV, etc...) , and you can even purchase more apps/games for the unit. Very fast startup. Anyone that has had an older Blu-Ray player can understand how important this is. My old player took 30 seconds just to eject the drive. This player takes a fraction of the time to startup, eject, etc.. This player includes built in memory. Other players require you load a disk or a USB flash drive to perform a software update. This one can just download the update to the internal memory and go. Memory is also for BD-Live content. You can add an external USB drive for more storage. The player automatically connects to shared directories on networked devices/PCs for playing music or video. Plays mp3, avi, mkv, wmv, mp4, mpeg, and wma files. No need to put files on a USB drive just to play them. The only time I had to refer to the manual or quick start guide was when I was setting the remote to control my TV. Free credit on Vudu. FULLSCREEN mode lets you zoom movies to fill your screen. Supports many different disk formats. Cons: The remote only partially controls my VIZIO TV. VIZIO codes are not listed in the manual but I found 2 codes (out of 99) that partially worked. I have forgotten the exact numbers but one was in the teens and the other in the seventies. OFF/ON, mute and volume were about all it worked with. Vudu can lock up if you press keys too fast but cycling power from the remote brought the player back to life. Comments: The only Blu-Ray specific feature I would have liked to have that is not supported is 3D. Given the price difference and lack of 3D titles I can live without 3D for a couple years. Except for a lockup when navigating Vudu menus, the player has worked flawlessly. The BD-C5500 is a cheaper if you don't need the analog audio outs or built in WiFi. Hulu plus is mentioned in an advertisement in the internet@TV feature. I could not find it available for download yet. It would be nice if Samsung would support some form of lossless audio file format. I highly recommend this player to anyone! Setup was easy, load/startup times are fast, the apps have worked well and the firmware is way more stable than the other WiFi enabled player I tried. 11/27/2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Graet Simple to set up and operate. My 21 year old son opened the box, grabbed the remote and we were off and running. Streams great and plays DVD great. My husband did not lift a finger or read the manual. Awesome machine! 07/02/2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best purchase ever The decision to purchase this over the less expensive model came down to the built in wireless connectivity (and it works perfectly - no wires going to a router and no extra wireless adapter to purchase and configure.) DVDs and blu-rays play perfectly, as do the online streaming/rental services. Youtube and Vudu work well. The only thing (and really have to research if possible) is that I would love a keyboard for searching for content - otherwise great investment on entertainment. 07/05/2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Product This is my 2nd one, I have one in the living room and I put this one in the bedroom, you can actually go on the internet and check your emails, and chat with others, you can also upload movies! I love the unit and it loads very fast. The picture quality is remarkable. Even the uploaded movies are very clear and the sound is terrific. I would recommend the Samsung BD-C6500 to everyone. Setup is a snap, even with the wireless connection. It took me about 15 minutes, and I was watching a uploaded movie from Netflex. Too Cool!! 07/20/2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by A lot more than a DVD player Samsung BD-C6500 is a new dimension in entertainment. Great Blu-Ray player PLUS Wi-Fi Internet TV. The seamless interaction with a Samsung TV couldn't be easier. Netflix streaming video (movies and TV series) works great! 06/06/2010
Rated 1 out of 5 by First Time, and Forever, Disappointed by Samsung First, I must say that I have never written a "One Star" review. I never take them seriously. However, with the experience that I had with this, I have no other choice. I purchased this as a whim, as I received a special edition blu-ray disc for Christmas without a unit to play it on. From the moment I connected it, I had issues. The first, and most prevalent, was the amount of times it froze, before and after the firmware update (which didn't help in any way, I should add). The second issue, and personally, the most obnoxious, was it's decision to not let me listen to my discs if I skipped a chapter, as I would have to turn the system off, then back on, to get it to restart. Pausing a blu-ray was frowned upon, but pausing a DVD? That was an absolute no-no. Due to my busy schedule, I wasn't able to exchange this for awhile, but when I did, per Samsung customer service, I had the same problems, even after the firmware update. Oh! But only with standard DVDs, as blu-rays would now not even load at all. I called, er, wasted my time with Samsung, again, and this time around, they tell me, "Oh yeah, these are known issues with this model. Would you like to send it in for service? Free service, of course, since you're in warranty. Shipping? No no no, that exorbitant cost is covered by you." VERBATIM. To the additional features: The WIFI connectivity constantly dropped (only from the player, never from my computer, phone, iPad, etc.), so I could never establish use of the internet features. Ultra Fast Play? Let's not even go there. Loading a DVD, to the first ANNOUNCEMENT SCREEN, took, and clocked, 1:34s, consistently. The only other features are design oriented. Sleek, slim design? Yup... High glossy finish? Yup... The best experience I had with this rubbish was the excellent customer service provided by the store. After this mess, and going with a "trusted" general population provider, I decided to treat myself to an OPPO BDP-93 Universal Network 3D Blu-ray Disc Player, and it's perfect. 02/06/2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Satisfied with Samsung I bought this Samsung Blu-Ray player at my local Walmart yesterday. I had been researching Blu-Ray players for a while and had narrowed it down to LG and Samsung. I knew that I wanted wireless capability, but I was concerned about some of the reviews that I had read about Samsung Blu-Ray players. I took the plunge and bought the Samsung 6500. Setup was a breeze, since I am running HDMI. In no time, my kids and I were enjoying "Toy Story 3," which I had rented on Blu-Ray. The audio and picture quality are far superior to standard DVD's. Programming for internet applications like Netflix and Pandora was a breeze as well. I did not experience any of the connectivity problems that other reviewers have described. 01/16/2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by very happy with it. i did some research before buying a blu-ray, i wanted one with internet access and apps, and this is the best one i found, the best prize for everything i wanted . something very important is that it has BUILT-IN wireless (the ones that says wireless ready need an extra adapter) . I love everything about it, setting it up was really easy, the picture quality is great, the apps are so cool! my favorite so far is NETFLIX, it is awesome how you can connect to your account and see your queue, select your movie and watch it directly in your TV.... the only reason I dont give it 5 stars is that samsung doesnt have "PC share manager" for MAC!! so I can not take advantage of the media sharing app so I can play the music, movies and pictures in my iMAC directly in the TV which would be awesome!! Please Samsung develop "PC share manager" for MAC!!! 12/17/2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Blu Ray! I bought this for my husband as a christmas gift which I already gave to him! Very easy to set up. It also was very easy to connect it to our wireless internet and that is the best part about it! I absolutely love everything about this blu ray player and well worth the money! 12/13/2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent product I bought the Samsung BD-C6500 Blu-Ray player today and I am impressed with the product. Connecting up the blu-ray player was really simple - connect the HDMI cable to the TV and plug it in. Sound and picture are excellent! Connecting to the home Wi-Fi was challenging and took a couple of hours. There are 3 ways to connect to your wireless network: Auto - didn't work; Manual - didn't work; WPS - worked the second time after I enabled it on my Belkin N router. The wireless connection is strong even though my router is upstairs and at the other end of the house and the TV is downstairs. The documentation was a little vague on the connection process but there was enough there to lead you in the right direction. The Samsung apps are pretty sparse but seem to work OK. I particularly like Pandora Internet Radio where you can really focus on your music interests. Walmart did a great job on the price: online for $250, listed in the store for $216, and priced at checkout for $138. Looks like Black Friday prices are already in place in some stores. 11/20/2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great player This was so easy to hook up I was almost sad. I am a tech-hound and this is like candy. Great picture and sound and Netflix streaming make it worth every penny. 09/20/2010
Rated 1 out of 5 by Horrible Waste of Time Set up was a nightmare. To get wireless to work had to disable the security on my router. The list of problems goes on. Don't believe me ? Just Google "Samsung BD-6500 review". I solved the issues by returning it and getting the Vizio VBR220. It was really just plug and play. 01/02/2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by complete garbage Got this player as a christmas gift and hooked it up with no problems. Connected easily to my wireless internet. Put in a brand new disc and...skip...skip...hang. I thought my new disc was bad so I tried another and it played fine. So, tried the new one again and it played fine. I figured it was just a one time occurrence. From that point on every disc I put in, blu-ray or regular, would hang to the point where I had to eject and try again. I did the firmware upgrade and that did nothing. I am going to try and return this piece of garbage and find one that actually works. 02/09/2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Blu ray!! this blu-ray player has been perfect to meet my needs..plays all my current DVD's and I can see my Netflix movies on it also...works great and the built-in wireless was key. Very easy to set up. No need for 3D model..this one is great. If i wanted to wear glasses while watching TV I never would've gotten contact lenses. No need for extra $$ on 3D version...stick with this one. 08/10/2010
Rated 2 out of 5 by Subpar I returned this product after a week. We actually didn't even get to playing a bluray disk on here, but the entire player was so slow through menus and function and loud when performing that we had to return it. Netflix playback was a joke. After many firmware upgrades we still had to consistently reconnect the player to netflix online. When we could use Netflix, it would take up to 2-3 minutes to load something and we couldn't add movies to the queue. During playback it would go black for seconds at a time. We then bought the LG BD500 and it works flawlessly, plus it was 80.00 cheaper! 07/29/2010
Rated 1 out of 5 by Even 45 mins with Samsung Tech couldn't fix it We bought this Blu-ray player at the Black Friday sale after researching it on Consumer Reports. But right out of the box, this Blu-Ray player was difficult to set-up and connect with our Wi-Fi. When we inserted a new Blu-Ray DVD, the player processed for 45 seconds then displayed the DVD was invalid. We tried another Blu-Ray DVD and got the same action and response. A regular DVD did work. Called Samsung tech and spent 45 minutes with them to learn our player needed a firmware update. We downloaded that from the internet and once it was completed, the player was worse than before! Now the tray opened and closed, opened and closed, over and over again. We boxed it up and took it back to WalMart on Saturday. The electronics associate was great and gave us a Black Friday deal on a Magnavox Blu-Ray that was a breeze to set up and plays Blu-Rays perfectly. 12/14/2010
Rated 3 out of 5 by Firmware needs updated Bought the DB-C6500 and hooked everything up. At first it would only play DVDs and not Blu-Rays. Chat help w/ Samsung pointed me in the direction of updating firmware. This included downloading a 60MB file and uploading it to the Blu-Ray. After the firmware update system seems to be working fine but there is a level of frustration having to update something the same day you buy it. For me this was not a plug and play system. 08/08/2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by 2 years & still running strong.. I've had this unit for two years now & its still running great. I'm an electronics technician by trade so I know all the in's & out's about products like this. For me it was extremely easy to set up, but from reading previous reviews I can concur that even the most technologically challenged can use this device with a little help from the instructions. (I've yet to read them myself though.) My only criticism is sometimes it cannot immediately connect to my other PC's (VIA PC Share) or when it does takes a while to load/display the content. Yet still I attribute that to having 5 machines & large files. Otherwise GREAT DEVICE! 10/10/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by None Better!! This machine has everything you could ask for: Flawless reliability Useful updates Great picture and sound Outstanding ergonomics And the wi-fi works great!!!!!!! I paid less for this unit that I did for the non-wifi Samsung blu-ray I bought the year before. When I experienced a problem setting up the wi-fi (1st time ever experienced, the friendly and knowledgeable phone service tech had me up and running in less than 10 minutes from start to finish. Buying a 50" LED this fall to go with my 32" and 42" Samsung plasma TV's. Would not even bother to check out another brand!! 10/09/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent blu-ray player I love this player... it works right out of the box with extremely easy set up... and has excellent color. I don't have a Samsung television but still there were NO problems at all. I also love the built in wi-fi that works awesome with streaming media of all types. I am also very pleased with all the free apps that comes with the Samsung. This is truly a gem, and I would highly recommend it. I am far from being a technical expert seeing that I am in my 60's and this player is extremely easy for me to use.... and the updates are automatic. The other thing I love about Samsung is their representatives are always happy to help and walk you through with things you don't understand. This is my first Samsung product purchase, but I guarantee it will NOT be my last!! 10/01/2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Blue Ray Disc Player Originally I was given (as a gift) a Blue Ray Disc player from the company that developed blue ray. When trying to connect wirelessly to the internet the signal was constantly dropped which caused continuous re-streaming. I took the player back and exchanged it for Samsung's Blue Ray disc Player. I was so happy I did. No problems whatsoever with streaming the internet. The apps are easy to navigate around. The only complaint I have is that it has trouble viewing standard dvd's. It became so time consuming to figure out how to get them to play correctly (which they would eventually) that I hooked up my old dvd player along with my blue ray. 09/09/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice Apps!! Good machine!! I like the apps and the updates keep it up to date. 09/04/2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Stay away from this model I thought Samsung products are good and bought this, but I regret buying since I bought it. There are many issues with this player from the first day onwards. 1. Wifi setting does not retain its memory. 2. Unclear error messages. Ex: With remote if I want to do a skip and if that is not supported, Message only says 'Not available'. 3. YouTube app: Search results display only 5 pages . You cannot continue and look after 5 pages. This app was provided with player itself. I am not putting entire issue list as it is big. 09/04/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Having Netflix and built in WiFi sealed the deal for me. 09/03/2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by This product always freezes Could never enjoy a movie without it freezing, yes did upgrades and reset back to factory. 09/01/2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Terrible blu ray player I bought the bd-c6500 because it included wirless lan and had individual audio out. Too bad it has a horrible time playing blu ray discs and sometimes dvds. Mainly rented blu ray discs (redbox). The movies freeze and skip. Sometimes it will get almost halfway through the movie which is even more annoying. And it is repeatable. I bought it when it was new on the marker in '10 and I kept hoping the next firmware update would solve these issues, but it has been 9 months since the last one and I guess I'm on my own. The reviews seem fairly positive, but I will do a little more homework before I buy a Samsung blu ray player again. 09/01/2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Product, Excellent Performance I've not had one iota of trouble with this device - it has exceeded expectations, works well, intuitive menus, high qualith output. 08/30/2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by This product has worked great for me. This is a very good player to buy. I have had no problems. 08/22/2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Problems from the start I wanted to love this because it looks great and has a fairly decent design. But since I bought it I've noticed a terrible lag with everything, including playing discs, that got even worse over time. Sometimes it wouldn't play anything without restarting it several times! I'd say the WiFi connection was the worst thing about it, cutting out on me more and more until after only a year it wouldn't connect to the internet at all. Factory resetting it worked only half the time at this point, and even when it did it would stop working after a couple of weeks again anyway. I gave up on this thing and got something else that actually works like I want it to-- quickly, and all the time. 08/20/2012
