Can't afford cable? Buy this!

Times are tough right now so my husband and I have had to cut back on many expenses, especially the high price of cable. This blu-ray has been a wonderful replacement. With its built-in WiFi, connecting and running this product is very easy. Included in the box is a standard video connection cable but I recommend purchasing an HDMI cable for better picture quality. I bought the HDMI on eBay for under $3.00 with FREE shipping. As soon as your blu-ray is connected to your wireless service, you will be asked if you want to update its firmware. Choose YES! After following the easy instructions, you should be ready to go. You'll have to create a login to access Samsung's Apps but again that is an easy process. While most apps are already downloaded onto this player, I suggest you browse the Apps section on your own because there are a few more FREE ones available for you to download. If you don't have a subscription to NETFLIX, you'll want to get one when you get your player up and running. Netflix movies, documentaries, and TV/Cable shows run flawlessly on this player. All I have to do is add the shows I want to watch onto my "Movie Queue" using my PC and they are immediately ready for viewing from the player. Yes, it may take a minute or so to load but once the movie starts, it plays without any interruptions. For those who have reported streaming problems, I think they may not have a fast enough DSL service to use with this device so you might want to test your bandwidth before purchasing this product. With Netflix, you can watch an unlimited amount of items stored in your Queue at any time for only $8.99 per month. The other Apps are great too. Besides Netflix my other 2 favorites are Pandora and YouTube. The only flaw I see with this player is that I wish it had MORE Apps. I do hope that more Apps are added soon. Other than that, I highly recommend this product.

Great player but......

I'm watching on a Samsung LED 46 flat screen. Best tv I saw out of about 6 months research. Same wjth this player, but...I feel I gotta jump thru hoops to watch a movie. Why I can't I hit play and the movie starts? I don't want to answers any questions or any make any special choices just to watch a film. Don't get me wrong, I love technology but. As a user I am afirm believer in the KISS principal. The sound thing is whole different critter. My Onkyo has 25 different settings for surround sound but using the 7.1 channel out, which is the main reason I bought this model, I only get 2 choices- direct and multichannel. Not many CD or BD are made in 7.1 so I am stuck with 5.1 because that is what is on the disc. My system has a setting to add the extra but the player limits its output to only that which is on the disc. That leaves half the room outside the theatre. I am looking for a solution if anyone has one, short of replacing my whole system. Other than those couple things I am very happy.

Bought this BD player based on reviews read online giving it a better than average rating. Now, this isn't the worst player my wife and I have had, however we continually have issues with the player freezing when trying to enjoy an evening watching a Disney Blu-Ray movie. The disc or player always seems to stop on the castle image. We've looked up similar issues online to find a great many other buyers of this type of player saying the same thing. I have tried updating the players software as posted on the net, however the player never seems to recognize the flash drive--by stating, "No firmware files could be detected." I do have this player connected to my router by hard line for automatic updating, but this is a rather troubling inconvenience. I wish Samsung would come up with a new update to fix this problem. We can't even watch; "The Lion King", "Cars 1/2", 'The Incredibles, "Beauty & the Beast" or "Tron Legacy" and many other Blu-Ray movies after the first play through.

Clunky interface

I've had my Samsung Blu-Ray BD-C65400 for about 6 months now and I wanted to get completely familiar with it before i posted here. Once it starts a movie it usually plays fine. Lately it seems to freeze up during playback requiring a power off/power on. Most of my complaints have to do with the interface. It takes forever to start up. then it presents the main menu, which does not actually become active for at least another few seconds. Then, the badly designed and clunky remote must be used to navigate around. If I want to play Netflix, again it takes forever to get to the correct screen to start playback. I have an older Yamaha 5.1 receiver which does not decode newer BD movies, so I appreciate the analog 5.1 audio output. But I still cannot get past how slow and clunky the interface is. I would not recommend unless Samsung improves performance and menu access in a future update. It's an HD TV, folks, why do we have a menu that looks like it belongs on a 1998 computer?

This is the 3rd try I had at trying to find a good Bluray player that had a lot of features to it other than just playing the Bluray disc. When I first got the unit and plugged it in, I went to Netflix and the only thing that was available was the "Queued" movies. I had the unit update it's firmware and rebooted it and after that on Netflix there are numerous categories for me to surf through. It was easy to set up and I just love it. The only downfall that I have found thus far is that the wireless internet keeps lagging or dropping. I'm seriously considering running a wired connection over to it to see it that fixes the issue or if it's just my internet connection. After I do that I will update the information on here. I would love for Samsung to make their remotes to where that they are programmable so that you can use the one remote to control the TV and DirecTV boxes, etc. This way you don't have so many different remotes and can just use the one for everything.

DVD Player is great

We purchased two of these DVD players at the end of November 2010. One for living room and the other for the family room. Consumer Reports rated this a best buy. It had the features I was looking for at the time. We wanted to be able to stream movies on both of our TVs, but right now this is a feature on higher end TVs. Our living room TV does not stream, so this was a perfect fit for this room. Plus it has the option to use WiFi or an Ethernet connection. Which is great flexibility. I like the ability to add apps to the player to customize it to my preferences. The only bad experience I have had is that both players have had a problem with two different DVDs. For some reason one player just wouldn't play the disk from the start and the other player froze when we paused a movie and then tried to resume. Since these players are connected to the internet, they receive software updates. I'm sure Samsung will keep improving these players and fix any bugs in the software.

I bought the Samsung BD-C6500 Blu-Ray player today and I am impressed with the product. Connecting up the blu-ray player was really simple - connect the HDMI cable to the TV and plug it in. Sound and picture are excellent! Connecting to the home Wi-Fi was challenging and took a couple of hours. There are 3 ways to connect to your wireless network: Auto - didn't work; Manual - didn't work; WPS - worked the second time after I enabled it on my Belkin N router. The wireless connection is strong even though my router is upstairs and at the other end of the house and the TV is downstairs. The documentation was a little vague on the connection process but there was enough there to lead you in the right direction. The Samsung apps are pretty sparse but seem to work OK. I particularly like Pandora Internet Radio where you can really focus on your music interests. Walmart did a great job on the price: online for $250, listed in the store for $216, and priced at checkout for $138. Looks like Black Friday prices are already in place in some stores.

I purchased this on Black Friday to replace an older Magnavox player with no network connection or apps. I tried a VIZIO VBR220 but had to return it (see my review). Pros: Attractive design. Very slim, hidden disk drawer, the Blu-Ray logo on top lights up and looks cool, the Blu-Ray logo on the top that lights up can be turned off, etc... Nice remote. The remote can be programmed to control most TVs, the STOP and PLAY buttons have bumps that make them easy to find. The battery door is attached to the remote so you won't loose it. Multi-channel analog audio outputs let me use my old surround sound receiver which doesn't support any of the new audio standards. Includes a user manual (unlike another Blu-Ray player I tried which made you download it). Easy setup of the built in wireless networking. The secure setup where you push a button didn't work, but selecting my WiFi network and entering the key manually worked first try. Network status is displayed on the front of the player (no annoying onscreen pop ups), and to the best of my knowledge the WiFi connection has never dropped. Worked just fine on my Encore 150N 3G router... unlike the other WiFi enabled Blu-Ray player I tried. No network connection issues at all! Many built in or free downloadable apps (Netflix, Blockbuster, VuDu, Pandora, AccuWeather, Google maps, CinemaNow, MLB.TV, Facebook, YouTube, USA TODAY, Picasa Web Albums, Rovi TV, SPSTV, etc...) , and you can even purchase more apps/games for the unit. Very fast startup. Anyone that has had an older Blu-Ray player can understand how important this is. My old player took 30 seconds just to eject the drive. This player takes a fraction of the time to startup, eject, etc.. This player includes built in memory. Other players require you load a disk or a USB flash drive to perform a software update. This one can just download the update to the internal memory and go. Memory is also for BD-Live content. You can add an external USB drive for more storage. The player automatically connects to shared directories on networked devices/PCs for playing music or video. Plays mp3, avi, mkv, wmv, mp4, mpeg, and wma files. No need to put files on a USB drive just to play them. The only time I had to refer to the manual or quick start guide was when I was setting the remote to control my TV. Free credit on Vudu. FULLSCREEN mode lets you zoom movies to fill your screen. Supports many different disk formats. Cons: The remote only partially controls my VIZIO TV. VIZIO codes are not listed in the manual but I found 2 codes (out of 99) that partially worked. I have forgotten the exact numbers but one was in the teens and the other in the seventies. OFF/ON, mute and volume were about all it worked with. Vudu can lock up if you press keys too fast but cycling power from the remote brought the player back to life. Comments: The only Blu-Ray specific feature I would have liked to have that is not supported is 3D. Given the price difference and lack of 3D titles I can live without 3D for a couple years. Except for a lockup when navigating Vudu menus, the player has worked flawlessly. The BD-C5500 is a cheaper if you don't need the analog audio outs or built in WiFi. Hulu plus is mentioned in an advertisement in the internet@TV feature. I could not find it available for download yet. It would be nice if Samsung would support some form of lossless audio file format. I highly recommend this player to anyone! Setup was easy, load/startup times are fast, the apps have worked well and the firmware is way more stable than the other WiFi enabled player I tried.

This is my 2nd one, I have one in the living room and I put this one in the bedroom, you can actually go on the internet and check your emails, and chat with others, you can also upload movies! I love the unit and it loads very fast. The picture quality is remarkable. Even the uploaded movies are very clear and the sound is terrific. I would recommend the Samsung BD-C6500 to everyone. Setup is a snap, even with the wireless connection. It took me about 15 minutes, and I was watching a uploaded movie from Netflex. Too Cool!!
