I not say this the best knife set as far as quality, but, look at the price! My mother has a more expensive set and there is a little more stainless steel in her set. The blades are slightly thicker and the rivets a little bigger, also, the plastic handles seem better quality. Yes both are plastic and will melt well under extreme heat. These knives are very sharp, did not take long for my finger to make the discovery. Take care. I can cut through a hot biscuit faster than it can burn my hand. They cut meat well and slice up apples for a pie with no trouble. I going to do as another person mentioned and sand the Logo off the pine wood block (that what it seems made of). This really is a good knife set with a good assortment of specialty knives and I feel they can last a lifetime, keeping the handles away from fire and too hot of surfaces. Mr. Ron backs them up, just return with postage paid $2.50 return envelope. He reserves the right to change that in the future. Hopefully we will never need it. But, wait! That's not all; You do get the "Ronco Rocker" at no extra cost. ;-) I hope the pictures work and help. The Ronco are in the center of my mother's knives.

Like a lot of people I bought this set because it was on sale, and for the sale price I can't complain too much. I've only opened the set today and have not used them yet. This review is based on my initial impression only. 1) At least one of the knives looked dirty and had what looked like water spots on it. Did I get someone's used returned item?! I bought this after it came back to being in stock online when it was previously sold out. Did they get a new shipment in or did they resell returns?! I've tried to show this in the picture, you can see the grimy look around the logo and the spots on the blade. Even though I'm not impressed with this, I'll keep this set and get a new knife under warranty if and when I want to..... and put their lifetime warranty to a test. 2) Overall the metal blades "feel" thin, cheap, and flimsy. And the handles do not feel durable. I hope I'm wrong! The blades do not feel overwhelmingly sharp, I expected something "razor sharp" like the included documents said. 3) The block is nice, but pretty large. If you have limited / cramped counter space you might want to look for something else. For me this set is easily twice as big as the set it replaced, and it definitely shows! Also evaluate if you actually need all the knives it comes with. A lot of space is taken up for stuff I know I will never use! That did not influence my purchase though. 4) Not important, but a couple of the labels on the block for which knife goes where are misaligned and not in the proper places. Just slightly off from where they should be. I'll start to give these knives some use soon, and hope that I don't regret throwing my old set away!

The knives are very good......iff you never wash them in the dishwasher. They are not 100% stainless , which means the detergent of the dishwasher, not to mention the heat, will cause them to get splotchy, and like my first set and rust. Hand wash them in the sink, and let air dry.....they work beautifully, then. I have given 2 other sets since I bought mine, and told each of the recipients about foregoing the dishwasher. Their sets like my 2nd are over 3 yrs old now, and still good. The ferrous iron in them causes the rusting, but it also causes tham to keep a very sharp edge. Non-ferrous stainless steel has no rustable metal, but can't maintain a sharp edge without a lot of work. The wood block alone is worth the $26. I will be buying another set for a gift again, this year.........my sets were originally around $100 with block and shipping....

You've got to ask yourself, "Self, why are these knives so cheap? Why do some other brands charge at least 2 to 4 times as much for one knife as for the entire set?" Here's why. This is very bad steel. The knives are far too thin to safely use on most vegetables. They are stamped out of cheap stainless steel which does not take a decent edge, and are unsharpenable. Once you have used a really good knife you will understand. The handles are uncomfortable. The corners of the metal blade are completely squared, making it painful to use properly for any length of time. The only upside is that these are so cheap that you can buy lots of them when your blades become unuseable after 3 months or so. Pro: Cheap Con: Really cheap. Really really cheap Soap Box: You only really need two knives in your kitchen, anyway. A good 8" Chef knife (or santoku), and a paring knife. Expect to spend a good $80-$100 for a decent one. The paring knife at 3"-4", should cost $20-$40. Get these and follow the care instructions and you will have blades to pass down to your grandchildren.

Let's understand one thing, they are $20 knives. If you're expecting these things to carve through a tomato under their own weight like a Jedi lightsaber through Darth's wrist, it's not going to happen. But, with a little effort, they do cut nicely. The showtime knife is a good all around knife and I find myself using it more than any of the others. With a little sawing action, it makes nice thin and even tomato slices without any crushing yet can handle slicing up a BBQ brisket or ribs with ease. The rocker knife is great for finely chopping up just about anything and the shears have come in handy for cutting open everything from food bags to those God forsaken hard plastic blister packages. As for the steak knives, I'm just happy to now have 6 that match instead of the silverware drawers full of various sizes that have been collected over the years from who knows where. All of them are keeping an edge well and cut the same as they did out of the box. My personal opinion is that you can't go wrong here, pull the trigger.

well i got these knives on the black friday sale for 20 dollars and if i would have paid full price i would be angry. when they arrived i was eager to open the box and see what i had bought because it was so heavy. but as i checked out each knife i was very upset. very flimsy and lightweight. if you do serious cooking these knives are not for you. the slot for the cleaver was not even cut open enough to slide it in. however thank god for the convenient "saw" knife, which im sure they included for the sole purpose of allowing me to spend 30 minutes sawing through the extra wood in the slot so i could fit the cleaver in correctly. the rocker knife which is advertised on tv is completly useless as is the chef's knife. the best knives in the set are the cleaver, the cheese knife, utility, and the paring knife. also the kithchen shears. but none of them are worth the money wasted and time i spent hacking into the block. save your money and invest in some more expensive knives from a reputable cutlery company.

Just have these knives a couple of weeks. A friend recommended them to me.I read many reviews before I bought them. I was concerned that the handles might be weak as others had complained. Mine are not. the knives are very sharp and they have a good feel to them. there are more knives here than I will ever need. I am happy to recommend them to others.

First of all my wooden block was NOT as pictured it had a HUGE "six star cutlery" LOGO which is SO ugly!! I immidiately sanded it off with fine sandpaper- worked perfectly & now you cant tell that it was even there. The knifes cut great- hope that lasts. BUT they are NOT sturdy- by far!!! They feel very flimsy, almost like the handle is hollowed out plastic... But cant beat the price, so even if these only last me a year or two I feel they are well worth it. see pic- exactly what the block looked like that was shipped to me. Not classy in any way! ....dont know about you but def did not fit my decor! =)

I'm not sure why there were so many bad reviews on this set. I read carefully through all of them, ordered them as one of my many Christmas gifts for my mother - ordered early just in case I needed to take them back to the store! When they arrived, the box was decently heavy : heavier than I thought it would be. Upon opening, I looked at the friend.. block looked exactly like the picture.. not a big emblem thing like many others received. Opened the knives, one by one : All sparkling and beautiful. Didn't get a chance to use them the first day. Next day.. cooked breakfast! Sliced through a package of frozen bacon with ease! Actually sliced our counter! [So be careful!] The steak knives didn't look all that sharp.. but we tried them out next time we got steak.. and WOW! Went right through! [Again, be careful, if you're using plastic plates, it will leaves scratches!]. Overall, I would say this was a very good purchase. I can't confirm the dishwasher thing, as we don't have one :: However they cleanup good by hand. No rust so far.. but we wash them right away as well. I would say if you're looking for a nice set of knives that won't hurt your pocketbook, these are hit. Just stay clear of the dishwasher!
