Movie Description

The following content was provided by the publisher.

The year is 52 B.C. Four hundred years after the founding of the Republic, Rome is the wealthiest city in the world, a cosmopolitan metropolis of one million people; epicenter of a sprawling empire. The Republic was founded on principles of shared power and fierce personal competition, never allowing one man to seize absolute control. But now, those foundations are crumbling, eaten away by corruption and excess. After eight years of war, two soldiers, Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo unwittingly become entwined in the historical events of ancient Rome. A serialized drama of love and betrayal, masters and slaves, husbands and wives, Rome chronicles a turbulent era that saw the death of the republic and the birth of an empire.

Rated 4.9 out of 5★ by 11reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5★ by good hbo series i really like this season 11/07/2010
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Rome both first and second season This DVD presents acient Rome as well or better than anyone has. You meet the patricians, the soliders, common people and the slaves. A great deal of effort went into making it authinic down to the details of drawings on the walls of the villias. The set is amazing - nothing was spared.Anyone who is intereste in acient Rome or Ceasar will love this HBO series. 01/20/2010
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Excellent Entertainment Very well done. Awesome acting, details to true history and costume. Edge of your seat episode endings, leaving you wanting more immediately. Specifically for adult viewing only, no children, too much harsh reality from the Roman time era, but all very relavant to tell the story properly. 01/14/2008
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Rome going out on a limb the producers of Rome for HBO tried to make it as if u were in ROME 2000 years ago with painstaking research. The characters, actions, wardrobe, surroundings, behaviors might be shocking in modern day morality, especially with slavery. However, that is what existed back then...they dont even show the colliseum (which wasnt built at that time).my only wish is that the BBC didnt back out of this joint project, because they had just covered Ocavian Ceasar (later named Augustus by the Senatate) rising to power and ended the series there. 2 things of note: July is named July in honor of Julious Ceasar (the 1st one) and August was renamed as well in honor of the 2nd Ceasar (thou protrayed in this series as Octavian..see note above)They do an awesome job showing the military wisdom (and some would say luck) of Julius Ceasar as well as the vast political corruption needed/used to change Rome from a republic (no sole leader) to am Empire (ruled by a single emporer) 07/30/2008
Rated 5 out of 5★ by This series is awesome and this was the cheapest place I found to buy it new! Enjoy!! 08/10/2009
Rated 5 out of 5 liked the show like the show on hbo so now i can watch when i want thanks 01/15/2009
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Awesome! I loved this DVD, and I've watched it over and over! So much more convenient than trying to catch it on TV 08/09/2007
Rated 4 out of 5★ by Pretty good look at Roman life This show is impressive in their attention to detail. Even some of the most minute things were researched and stuck in the show, even just as background that you'll never really notice. There's a nice feature where it does pop-up facts throughout the show and tells you more about the real facts of roman life and where the show deviates. Real classy.I recommend this show with a caveat: it should be only seen by the over 18 crowd. When it warns of "sexuality," it really means it. It seems a bit more graphic than most R-rated movies I've seen. 11/19/2007
