Customer Product Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5★ by Really Good Popper (if you follow the directions) Many negative reviewers here on this product perhaps have missed the boat by not reading the manufacturer's directions supplied with the Rival. If you put the right amount of corn in the hopper, as directed, you will have a decent amount of popcorn with very few kernals unpopped. This unit is designed to work with a properly filled hopper of kernals not just a few teaspoons. I popped my first batch by filling the measuring cup almost to the brim. After consuming most of the corn, I counted 14 kernals that were unpopped in the bowl and 9 unpopped remaining in the hopper. I'd say this is pretty good for a first pop in any machine air or wet. Certainly better than the wet method. Super easy clean-up, the popcorn produced is heathier and to me taste better than I thought. Pop time was about 1.5 minutes to completion. Can you buy a better machine? Possibly, but this one works just fine for -$. 02/06/2012
Rated 5 out of 5★ by People complain too much, this popper works GREAT I disagree with most of the reviews on here. It's just a basic popcorn maker and it works FINE! All you need is a scoop and a half with the lil scooper (butter melter) on top a large bowl and your good to go! Very few unpopped kernels. I do not know what some of the reviewers were expecting, it's just popcorn lol. I use it at least once a week! 05/07/2012
Rated 1 out of 5★ by I got this Popcorn maker for an early Christmas present and was extremely excited to get it. I had wanted a popcorn machine for awhile now due to how much healthier they are versus microwave popcorn, and honestly I think it tastes better. I followed the directions carefully for my first couple of uses. Using the top to measure out my kernels and what not. The first time I used it, it worked really well! Then the second time I made it... It decided it didn't want to push out the air needed to pop the kernels. Though in a couple of seconds it came on and popped just fine leaving a couple of the popcorn burned, and left behind a little bit of smoke. Though the third time I tried to make popcorn, I turned it on... and immediatly it started to smoke twice as much as the last time. Then it just turned off with a puff of smoke and wont turn back on. I am extremely disappointed with this product being as I used it twice in a week and it wont work. 12/23/2011
Rated 4 out of 5★ by I've had this popcorn popper for 2 weeks now. Love it! Has not burned the popcorn at all. Have not had any problems at all with it. 01/03/2012
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Gr8 Popcorn Maker!! I purchased this popcorn maker ab a month ago & I use it lots!! It's gr8, I spray it with my 0 calorie butter & the maker does not need any oil so it's a quick, lol-call snack!! There are very few unpopped kernels & for the price, it's a fab deal!!! :) 05/26/2012
Rated 5 out of 5★ by So far so good I only got this popper today after returning a disappointing one I bought last week. This one was less than $1 more but at least it actually works as expected, meaning it pops the corn instead of spitting it out all over the place. The main thing I would suggest is that you use a very big bowl the first couple of times you use this popper. I filled it to the max level inside the popper and ended up with popcorn all over the place, but at least it was POPPED popcorn and not hot kernels. I filled up a good sized bowl from my stand mixer and another slightly smaller bowl and my dog still got the treat of all the popcorn that landed on the floor. It is more popcorn than I really wanted to make but that's what large zipper bags are for! 04/23/2012
Rated 4 out of 5★ by Great simple popcorn popper! Pros1) Quick (3 minutes from on to off)2) Convenient (Simple instructions, barely any clean-up, small enough to keep on counter at all times)3) Makes tasty popcorn (Though that may be the popcorn brand itself)4) Healthy alternative to microwave popcorn (No grease/oils that comes with all microwave popcorn)Cons1) Loud (Dont use if anybody is sleeping)2) Slow to cool (It needs to cool off before it's put away and that takes some time)3 Heads up (Some unpopped kernels may pop in the bowl flinging some pieces across the counter)4 Salt wont stick (But I think that goes for all air-popped popcorn) 09/23/2012
Rated 2 out of 5★ by Not for single servings The problem with this popper is that you are forced to make more popcorn than you might want. That is a waste of popcorn. Buried under the Hints section of the instructions are SUGGESTIONS to only pop 1 - 1 1/2 cups of popcorn. The problem is that I want to pop much less than the 1 cup allowed. 1 cup is too much. If I pop 1 cup, I get about a teaspoon of unpopped kernels. That really is unacceptable. If I pop 3 Tblsp, I get 1 Tblsp unpopped. This machine is not good for small quantities. The min/max should be displayed on the box. I never would have bought this popper otherwise. 02/15/2012
