I see several bad reviews on here, and I have to say I disagree. I bought this Ice Cream Maker because I already have a higher-end/more durable one, but the bucket is wooden and therefore the metal hinges rust due to the rock salt. I wanted something plastic so I could avoid the rust issue. This Ice Cream maker was a brand that I recognized and it works absolutely fine. I saw reviews saying that it didn't work at all or that it would "jam" during the use. I bought two of these (because I was making two different flavors for a party) and didn't have a problem with either one of them. One of them did stop before the ice cream was completely frozen because the ice cream closest to the outside of the metal container was already frozen. I simply took the top off and used a large kitchen spoon to mix up the ice cream (so the frozen edges were mixed into the rest of the container) and then started it again. This only happened once and the ice cream finished churning. Also, I saw comments about having to use crushed ice. I did not. I used ice from our outside ice machine and the correct rock salt ratio (according to my ice cream recipe). No problem at all. For the inexpensive price, this ice cream maker can't be beat.

2 quart machine by rival works

I purchased the 2 quart Rival machine that looks like this one, and it worked fine. I just set it up in my sink and it worked well. No offense, but making ice cream can be challenging. I wonder if the failures are due to missing one or two details in the instructions. As someone who has been craving ice cream and needed a non-sugar natural sweetener (found an agave recipe) , I was able to make made a nice frozen greek yogurt (1/3 skim milk and 2/3 yogurt to replace the recipe of 1 half-and-half). This gives me a guilt-free desert. The only reason I give it four stars (rather than 5) is because I've only used it once: I'm not sure how long it will last. It's a cute little machine. I think children would enjoy that if they were helping in the process. I like it because I think that rust, etc., will not be a problem. Making the recipe without an automatic "ice cream mix" was more time consuming than the freezing stage.

Not sure whose idea it was at Rival to make the bucket an oblong shape. Unfortunately this shape wedges ice and rock salt between the canister and inner walls of the bucket causing the motor to stall/lock up. This can happen very frequently so it is wise to not leave the unit running unattended unless you don't mid burning the motor out when it does jam. It seems that a round bucket would have alleviated this problem. The plastic bucket also has a lot of flexibility which causes the motor housing to come dislodged very easily. My suggestion would be to save your money for one with a round bucket, possibly even one with a wooden one. Or better yet, unless you prefer homemade ice cream, just pick some up at the grocery store. Once you factor in all of the ingredients, it's cheaper anyway.

If I could give a zero I would. Do not buy this product it is not worth the money. You have to babysit it the whole time it's running because of how often it jams. We have only used ours twice and the first time was bad but the second time my husband got so frustrated we just ate frosties rather than ice cream. Really, don't waste your money.

This product requires its users to use crushed ice but since that still did make it work properly, I WENT ONE BETTER. I have a ninja blender/ice crusher and its literally shaved ice. But after all this work NADA bupkiss nothing. Do NOT buy.

The oval container caused the ice to jam the entire time we were making the ice cream. We made it twice . The first time I fought the jamming until the ice cream was done. The second time we worked so hard that we gave up and just stopped trying. It was awful.

The world's greatest ice cream maker

This ice cream maker is absolutely amazing!! It churns the ice cream perfectly resulting in the creamiest, most flavorful ice cream one could ever get. Ive read some really nasty reviews on here about this ice cream maker, but i am here to tell you THE DEVIL IS A LIAR! I think their problems originate from the utilization of cheap jagged gas station ice which causes the container to get stuck. Make sure you go ahead and get yourself some smooth refrigerator ice, freeze containers of water before hand if necessary. As long as you adhere to the confines of this simple instruction then you will be coming on here to write a great review like i did.......SO EVERYONE GO OUT AND BUY YOURSELF A RIVAL 6 QUART ICE CREAM MAKER AND ENJOY!

The motor works fine until you add ice to the bucket, might as well be churning it by hand. We were really not impresse when we took it out of the box, it looked cheap and for 30 bucks it was cheap but I expected it to last at least 1 summer. We3nt to Lowes and bought a good one.

This is the worse ice cream maker I have ever bought! The motor does not lock in and kept jumping out of the slots. Ice kept jamming in the very small space on the sides and this made the motor stop. The shape of the bucket in an oval and is very close to the sides of the canister, which does not allow ice to move freely around it like it should. It took my ice cream an hour and a half to freeze because it kept getting jammed! DO NOT BUY! I bought in yesterday in a Walmart store and I am taking it back today. In my opinion Rival or Walmart should recall this piece of junk! I had to give this a one star rating, but it really deserves a ZERO!
