Pros: Cuts the grass very good and makes the lawn look nice. Easy to use right out of the box. You can't beat the price. Comes with a bag for catching the grass clippings. Has a lot of height options for cutting height of the grass. Very durable and not flimsy like most push mowers. Cons: A little noisier than my last push mower as the blades spin. It can get a little bit heaver when the bag is full of clippings, but that's to be expected. It takes a little bit of time to learn how to turn around with it as it has duel wheels. My only wish is that it would have a little bit of a longer handle (like 4-6 inches) as I'm 6 feet 5 inches tall. Plan: I'm going to use this push mower for about 4 years or so and then get a cordless electric mower for our yard which is about 2000 sq ft, as the price will come down for cordless electric mowers.

So far so good. I didn't think to take into account the wheels would also make it wider than the 18". So, it's bigger than I would have preferred and when the grass comes in, may be difficult to maneuver, but it was easy to assemble and everything works just fine. I have a very small area of grass to mow in my yard, so only wanted a Reel Mower. I wish now that I would have ordered a 14" instead just because of size and maneuverability. Nothing wrong with this make/model.

I spent months this spring researching reel mowers. I wavered between investing $200 on the Fiskars' model, which everyone seems to agree is an incredibly good reel mower, and one of the entry level models such as this Remington model. My yard consists of three one-quarter acre sections separated by stone walls. Two of the three sections are sloped and one is prone to sticks and small branches. I was concerned a reel mower would not work well with these potential road blocks but was sick of gas mowers and had a failed experiment with a cordless electric mower. I almost purchased the Fiskars mower after seeing numerous youtube videos and testing it to see how easy it was to push (very easy!) but could not bring myself to spent that kind of money on an unknown quantity. I found this Remington model at Walmart for about $40 less than at other merchants. Combined with Walmart's return policy, I decided to purchase this mower. I had the mower shipped to my local store. I have now used the mower about ten times. It is easy to push. It is relatively noisy, with a loud clanking sound as the reel blades contact the cutting bar. I will attempt to adjust the cutting action when I get an opportunity. That may reduce the noise. Additionally, the bar seems to cut more professionally on the left side, so it seems some adjustment is necessary. The mower cuts the grass crisply, is lightweight but sturdy, and the foam handle is comfortable and seems like it will be durable. The height adjustment system is excellent and easy to use. The grass catcher is pretty much useless and I don't use it. The mower is light enough so that it is as easy to use as a push style gasoline mower. I have had no problems cutting the slopes of my yard and by setting the height adjustment at 2 inches I have only had a few problems with twigs. This is a great alternative for someone who wants to "go green", or hates to fool around with power mowers. Reel mowers scissor-cut the grass and are much healthier for your lawn than power mowers, which violently tear the blades. However, this and all reel mowers will not give you a perfect cut and need to be used more frequently than power mowers. Clover stalks, weeds, and particularly tall blades of grass will be pushed down by this mower and will not be cut. The blades also occasionally miss regular blades of grass. If you run the mower back and forth over the areas you will eventually cut the grass, but that requires a lot of effort. If you are a lawn perfectionist you will not want this mower. I am very satisfied with the price and quality of this purchase and plan on using a reel mower on my lawn from now on.

Prior to purchasing this mower, I really did my research checking all the reviews for all the different mowers. I'm going to be honest - I live in the dry plains of South Texas. My yard is pretty flat and there aren't many trees around. Small twigs easily get caught in the reel, but leaning the mower to one side and rotating the reel with your foot seems to do the trick most of the time. Larger twigs just lay down and get passed over. As expected, crabgrass clumps that rise more than 2" above the ground stop the mower dead in its tracks. But the plus side is you can either back up and attack them from each side and get them mowed (relieving a lot of stress while getting a good work out) - OR - stop, bend down, pull them up, and toss them in the collection bag (beautifying your yard.) Also stated in other reviews, single weeds or grass seeds more than 3 or 4 inches in height don't usually get cut, no matter how many times you go over them. On the topic of the collection bag, as stated in other reviews, the bag gets snagged on stuff you mow over and pulls to one side. I haven't looked at it really close, but I suspect you could attach it more permanently with some plastic cable ties or something. I'm going to be honest about something else. I'm a female, I work at a desk job, and I have weak wrists. This mower is super light to push and turn - even with one hand! It is not hard to maneuver at all. I would compare it to pushing an empty wheelchair or a stroller with an infant in it. This mower is a breeze to use, so the tall weeds and crab grass won't be an issue after the first couple of mows because this mower is easy to use every weekend.

It's great! I got my 14 year old brother on the yard with it and the yard looks good. If it stays working like it is, it will pay for itself in about three uses. And I can bring it indoors to store as there are no gas fumes.

    • A. I had ordered mine from Wal-Mart & the only part that needed assembling was the handle. It was really simply made, The grass catcher basically hooks at the bottom with a strap on top & the handle was four parts with big screws (no tools were required). The hardest part was pinching the bottom of the handle to slide holes at end onto bolts on mower to attach them.

    • A. I think it ships from another non-Walmart warehouse. It wasn't available in my area at all. (I think the sales of these types of mowers are not worth the shelf space to Wal-Mart.) It wasn't hard to assemble at all. I think all you have to do is attach the handle.

    • A. I can't give measurements (my yard isn't that level) but at 2 "notches" away from the last one, the grass appears roughly a half inch long. There were some "lumpy" areas of the lawn where it was kicking up dirt; so I can only imagine you could (with enough time and energy) nearly remove your lawn altogether in the lowest setting. I recommend setting it half way and start there. If it's still too long, lower it and go again. Better to trim away a bit at a time than to have to say, "oops".
