There were several thermometers to choose from. This was one of the better priced ones so I selected this one. I used this thermometer for getting my Basal temperature in the morning. I used it at least once every day and when it took my temp it seemed to take forever and after approximately 3 weeks of using it ,it broke. It now says that me and my partner are both running a fever of 111 degrees, which is far from the case. Half the time it says "E" for error. Worked alright before it broke though. How ever I would rather buy a thermometer that is twice as expensive rather than buying a new one over and over.

I've had this thermometer for about three months, and I am very disappointed with it! Almost every time I take my temperature it reads 97.9. Even when I've been burning up it reads 97.9. Every so often it will drop to 97.5, but the highest it's ever gone is 98.1. I haven't dropped it or submerged it in water. I've handled it with care, and followed all the instructions, and yet it gives me a reading that's inaccurate. I will be taking this product back to the store, and I would suggest to those interested in this thermometer to buy a different one. You pay for what you get... which is junk in this case!

  • I don't have the directions anymore, either, but I don't remember seeing anything about having to add a degree to the reading. I believe the reading you get is supposed to be accurate. It might be within 2/10 of a degree but that isn't much difference. I've always used the reading it gave because it seemed to be accurate.

  • No. I found this to be very accurate. If you use it rectally, then you add.

  • Only if you take your temperature in your arm pit. Rectal Temps are one degree higher than oral and arm pit is one degree lower than oral.

  • On the thermometer I purchased, YES you need to add 0.8 degrees to what is displayed.

  • Add a degree in the mouth I believe.

  • I don't mean to contradict another's reply but reports are that rectal is the most accurate temp. Oral and/or underarm tend to be a degree LOWER. Now- I have never read the directions for this thermometer so do not know how it is to be used, but general thermometer usage guidelines are as I stated above.

  • The only time you add is if you are doing it rectal. You take one away if you are doing Axillary.
