Run don't walk to the nearest Walmart. These strips are top quality, easy to use and handle, and the cost cannot be beat. $9 vs. the $50+ I paid for One Touch strips. Thank you Walmart for making it cheaper for me to monitor my diabetes. As a person too young for Medicare, but with no insurance, I am so thankful to have found these strips and the meter that goes with it.

    Winner on Accuracy and Price

    Customer review by MikeJM

Did a quick comparison with my old meter sampling large single blood drops for a few days. The average difference was about 3.5 on each set and the averages for the test only differed by about 2.6. My decade or so of experience tells me readings even on a single meter vary by those amounts in tests on separate blood drops (checking meter consistency). Conclusion is same accuracy for about one third the cost, a winner. The worst problem I have found is that the strip is slightly harder to insert into the channel on the meter. Stiff strip and low blood requirement

I found these strips a little small to handle (I have very large hands), but the fact that they are a nice stiff material made them pretty easy to use. They also require a very small sample so you don't spend much time trying to "milk" out enough blood to test. The reader I had came with a carrying case and you could insert the strip through the plastic holding the reader - so you didn't even have to remove the reader from the case to take a measurement.

Lot # 09133A I pay for 50 but only half of them I am able to use?

    • I am at my wits end over these strips. Like others here, I have gotten numerous E15 readings, although that seems impossible by looking at the strip with my blood on it. I read through all the answers here and they are all different, no consistency. I think the major flaw with using this (cheap) system is that the strips are not individually wrapped, which allows for a whole bunch of environmental and handling problems. Calling customer service has been useless, their deal is to always make it out like the consumer is to blame. It seems that the E13 readings come in batches, I will get a string of between 5 and 10 E13's and then somehow if I wait a few hours it clears up. For a diabetic it is very unnerving to want to test your blood and run into this problem. I am trying to hang in there because of the low prices but I know I always got good results with the foil wrapped relion strips.

    • I switched to Relion from OneTouch to save money on test strips, and I couldn't be happier. I initially had a VERY few "E13" errors, but quickly noted how to eliminate them. Very little blood is needed to fill the test reservoir at the end of the strip, but the trick is how you touch the strip to your blood sample. I hold the meter upside down, so that my finger/blood sample is ABOVE the end of the strip; gently place the hard plastic side of the strip against my skin at an angle (like a spatula), and then slide the end of the strip upward until it touches the bottom of the blood droplet. That way, you're using both gravity and a "scooping" action, e.g., to make sure the blood quickly and properly wicks into the test reservoir at the end of the strip. Using this technique, I've had zero "E13" errors.

    • The ReliOn test strips require much more blood than test strips from other meters.

    • You need a thick drop of blood and let the strip suck up the amount of blood it needs.

    • Ensure that when you poke your finger to get a sample of blood that there is enough blood to flow the whole length of the Prime test strip sampler. I have used these Prime test strips for months with no problems at all.

    • There are instructions online of how to use the strips. Until I read that I didn't understand why I'm getting an E13 on MOST of my tries. Now I understand that if TOO much or not enough blood is entered into the test area you'll get the error message. How to do it correctly (and it's hard) is to touch the blood with the end of the test strip only. That is designed to draw the blood into the test area. If you just flood the area by sticking it into a big drop of blood it's a wasted effort. Try only extracting a small amount of blood from your finger. When the blood does get absorbed into the test area PULL AWAY FAST when it reaches the end. If you let it stay there you'll always get too much blood absorbed. These are tricky to use without error messages but I'm sure once we learn properly the price is EXCELLENT.

    • First of all you need to follow the directions to make sure that you have a big enough blood drop. Use the correct lancet with the correct tip on the lancing device. If it is the ReliOn Lancet, the blue tip is for finger tips and the clear is for your forearm. Press the lancet firmly against the skin so that it makes a dent in your skin, and press the button. Carefully push and lift the end a few times to make the blood flow a little extra. Then take the tip of the meter and put it against your skin about a quarter inch from the drop and slowly slide it toward the drop. Let as much blood in as it will take. The strip needs to be solid red up almost to the meter,
