    Cheap, easy and reliable

At $9.00, this test is cheaper than most insurance co-pays. If you've been a lifelong diabetic, you already know what you've to do to manage your sugars (adjust insulin delivery rate, etc.).. all you need the doctor is for your A1C level. I got my result emailed in 3 days and it seemed pretty accurate. Next time I have to see a doctor, I will get an A1C done there and do another one of these tests at home. I will then compare the results and post another review.

    Home A1C Kit

    Customer review by Texasdiabetic

    5.0 stars by Texasdiabetic

Your diabetes specialist/general practitioner normally only want to take a A1C test every 90-180 days. To me, that was way too long of an interval to see what short term progress I may be making with changing diabetes treatments. Although the A1C test is designed to test your average glucose reading over the last 90 days, it is important to know that, due to cell death patterns, the test is heavily weighted towards your level over the last 30 days. I use the home test every 30 days because the test of just so inexpensive and the service is top notch. I can always count on hearing the results directly within a week. Discovering my A1C level every 30 days gives me a much better reading on progress and allows me to stay on track for better short term results. This kit is excellent and the results are always consistent with what I receive from my doctors office. An outstanding deal for any diabetic who is serious about getting things under control.

I just got my bill from my doctor's office for an A1C test and was floored. $86. I won't go that route again. I've used Reli-On before and was surprised how easy it was. Walmart - start carrying this product at more stores.

    • Yes. They send you an email when results are ready, then you go to their web site with the kit control number that comes with your original package and they tell you to keep. I haven't used it but there's also an option to have results mailed to you.

    • Before you submit your test results, add your email address to the form you fill out. When the test results are ready, they email you. You need to make sure that you keep your sample number (the piece of paper with a number your tear off before mailing in your results). The sample number and your email address will be needed to log onto their site to get your results.

    • The test comes with everything you will need to be able to get two blood droplets out of your finger for the test. You will drip the drops of blood on a provided test card, let it dry and after completing the identification information drop it in their prepaid mailer and wait for them to contact you via email or snail mail (you select which you want) with the results. Mine have been returned in 3-4 days. They use the same kind of poker for your finger that the blood banks do, it works real fast.

    • I will answer the last 3 questions in one post. You must fast the same as if you were having a blood test done, 12 hrs. You get everything you need for a 1 times test. There is a card that you must drip you blood onto and let it dry for some time and then mail it in for the test results at no extra cost. There is even a post paid envelope to send the test in. The $9.00 you pay for the kit is all the expense. It is suppose to take 5-7 days for an email or snail mail with results.

    • You don't use a meter test strip. They provide two lancets for a finger punctures, but I found I needed to use a lancet from my meter for a better puncture.

    • The Walmart Reli-on A1c test uses no meter and there are no test strips used. The kit contains a test card with two circles to apply the blood sample. The test card is then mailed in via the enclosed pre-paid mailer. To do another A1c requires purchase of another test kit which is very affordable at Walmart.

    • I think methuzela is referring to the Bayer A1CNow selfcheck kit which has a meter for checking A1C at-home. The kit comes with a meter and 2 tests. I too wonder if we have to buy the meter every time or if it is reusable.

    • You use a meter and buy separate tests for daily testing. The A1C test is to get the blood glucose average for over a three month time period. Everything you need to get your three month average, including prepaid shipping envelope comes with this kit. But this is not for daily or meal testing. You will send 2 drops of blood on a special test card and will not be using test strips for this type of test.

    • I'm not sure what you're asking. An A1C test doesn't require test strips. It requires a blood sample to be put onto a return form to be analyzed by a lab. I think you may be referring to a glucometer which you have to buy test strips to test your blood sugar.
