Clarification of strap in the middle + review
    2/7/2013

    Customer review by NJLirpy

    5.0 stars by NJLirpy

I'm a big reader of reviews, I find you can never trust the star rating especially since people sometimes rate things they don't own "5 stars - this looks really cute!", or give things 1 star because they can't read the description. I already owned one of these and was contemplating buying one for my daughter. Our existing one has the strap in the center, and a manufacture date of OCT-2010. After reading the reviews, I was confused because some state "the older one was better" and visa versa, so I wasn't sure which was the newer model, but decided to risk it and buy a second one. I picked up a second one at my local Walmart in blue, and was happy to see that the strap has been REMOVED in the newer models, this particular one had a manufacture date of SEP-2012. We then ordered another one in pink for my daughter. Happily when it arrived at the store, it also had a 2012 date, and was of the newer design. If you purchase one and it has the strap across the center, return it and see if you can exchange it for a newer one. (Walmart was happy to return my older blue one for me.) The manufacture date is on a sticker on the outside of the box right beneath the UPC. So to clarify, the company has updated this product and improved upon it. No more annoying middle strap. ----------- After having purchased three of these in total, I have to say my kids (2 & 3) LOVE them. We purchased a Foam Mattress Topper in a Full, cut it in half, and put it under the fitted sheet for extra comfort. Well worth the $11 it cost at Walmart. The kids nap on them, relax and watch TV on them, even stopped hopping into bed with us at night, and instead will sleep on these in our bedroom. They refuse to let me put them away. We're headed on a 20 hour car trip next month and have differing accommodations, so these cots will work perfectly for the cabin, house, and hotel room. This is an excellent purchase, and it's a great value for the money. I am so glad I risked buying a second (and third) one to find that the design has been modified. They also fit the "Sleeping Bag Buds" we bought at Walmart last year PERFECTLY, and with a little compression, you can roll the foam mattress topper up and keep it in the travel bag with the cot, preserving how easy it is to store when not in use.

this cot kept my 4 year old (43" tall, 46 lbs) comfortable for our 3-night visit to a relative's house. it was a great alternative to a sleeping bag, as she got a good night's sleep every night. I didn't have to worry about her falling out of it, as it cradles the body slightly, and plus it's only like 8 inches off the floor. after reading the reviews I was worried that it would be uncomfortable or higher in the middle, but it seemed 'level' to me, and my child did not complain about anything. it is sturdy and very lightweight, and collapses to a small portable size. at such a cheap price, I totally recommend this product to anyone traveling with a preschooler.

    Uncomfortable cot!

This could be a great cot except for the support strap in the middle!! It makes the middle of the cot stiff and much higher than the rest of it, which means your child's hiney is up in the air and in an uncomfortable position. We also have the older Regalo Travel Bed in blue... the old style of it was fine and not so high-up in the middle... but when we ordered a replacement cot because one of the rivets popped off and couldn't be fixed, we received the newer style with the same problem. I am a seamstress and used a Seam Ripper to pull out the stitches holding the support strap on, then cut it off at the ends, making it useable for my daughter. Otherwise she wouldn't sleep on it because it was like having a hard bar under her back.

I am curious to know the dimensions of this product when it is collapsed... would it fit in a suitcase for airline travel?
    by Shayna33 5/7/2012
    • The cot is about 2 feet once it is collapsed; depending on how large your suitcase is, it possibly can fit.

    • I don't know the dimensions, but yes it should fit in a suitcase, I'd say even a carry on but you wouldn't be able to fit much else in the carryon bag.

    • possibly, it is a about the size of a fold up chair, just a little shorter.
      by jaywalk158/2/2012
Was this answer helpful? (0) (0)
    • It's just like a folding chair that you take to the ballpark that fits into its own bag. It folds up about the same size as a child's size chair like that and is very light weight. I think it would do fine in a suit case.

    • Closed they measure about 10"wide and 26" long. Fairly light weight and each has a bag to slip over the bed.

    • It would fit easily in a medium or large suitcase, but would fill most of a carry-on by itself. When collapsed it is about 18 or 20 inches long and the diameter would be comparable to a volleyball.

    • Yes, if you put it in a large suitcase.

    • I think it would easily fit a suitcase. It will take up some space as if you were packing a very large fluffy coat or something. Mine is about 2 feet long when collapsed and is basically a tube that is also maybe 6 to 8 inches wide.

I read a lot of negative reviews that it was uncomfortable in the middle due to a strap that was sewn in. I read a review on the pink version of this cot that it had been redesigned and was much better. Anyone have any info on that?
    by Michelle 10/15/2012
    • I'm not sure about a redesign since I recently purchased the pink cot and have no reference for the previous cot. However, it does not have a strap sewn into the center. I put a thick blanket on top though because I think you feel the frame through the pad.

    • There is no strap in this version. I don't know what it used to be like, but my three year old loves it and finds it very comfortable. Plus most kids that age are happy sleeping on the floor. So it is definitely more comfortable than the floor.

    • I just bought 2 and there is no strap in the middle, it looks like it would be very comfortable but seeing as the weight limit is 70 lbs, there's really no way to know unless you have an old enough child that can confirm it

    • I bought a pink cot and a blue cot about 3 weeks ago, and they were both redesigned. I read the same negative feedback about that middle support strap, but it's not on either of mine. They both have 2 X straps. My kids slept great on their cots!

    • I think so...I have the blue one from 2010 and it does sink in the middle more then the new pink ones I got this year...the leg design seems sturdier...I still use my older ones and my toddlers sleep fine on both :)

    • I was concerned about the same thing, but I recently bought one and there is no hard strap in the middle that would hurt a little one.

    • Yes, it is nice now, the support straps are x shaped and do not make any humps in the center or anywhere else. And I don't see it being possible to hit any metal bars now either. It seems very sturdy so far, like the heavier made fold up chairs for adults.

    • I would think 9 months would be a bit young to be out of a crib. If they are already in a toddler bed at home without a side rail then it would be fine. It is really low to the ground and bows a bit so it would be harder to roll out of without trying. And if they did fall, it would be a very small drop so wouldn't hurt. It wouldn't be a bad investment because even if she is too small, in a few more months it would be perfect.

    • I think it depends on your baby. My 2 at that age refused to sleep in anything that didn't have walls. It usually never failed to turn into a nightmare real quick ;) Pack and Plays have never let me down

    • I would not think these are as safe for a 9 mo old as an older toddler. They can tip over easily with rolling side to side especially if baby is active during sleep. I would recommend use for children who understand to lay still and rest.
      by Gramma8832/23/2013
Was this answer helpful? (0) (0)
    • I would say no. Even though the cot is low to the ground, it would be easy for a 9 month old to roll off. I'd recommend a Pack N Play instead. I travel with mine all the time :)
