I did not like this product. I had very high hopes for it and I see my search still remains, because I intend to take this gate back to the store. The gate came advertised as "Fits 29"-52" doorways", my doorway that I was wanting blocked was 49" wide... apparently NOT one of the 2 advertised. This gate comes fitting to 3 exact entry sizes: 29", 34" and 52". Not what I ws expecting. The gate comes with a 6" extender and a 12" extender. If I used both then the gate was too big, if I used one or the other then it was too small. My husband ended up having to put some 2x4's on our walls on both sides just to make it fit. And even still, its not worth it. Because after all that, my 4 y/o twins figured out how to open the gate within the 1st 24 hours!!! Walls tore up for no reason-Very disappointing.

First time mom. We got this gate for the kitchen doorway(33" wide) and the top of the stairs (35" wide). We had some problems. The gate its self is 29" and you get a 6" extension. So for the kitchen the gate+extension doesnt fit. We had to extend the pressure feet really far out on both sides (with the mounting cap its sturdy). The stairs JUST fit. Remember to add the inch to each side for the width of the pressure feet. BOTTOM LINE: buy the regalo extra wide. Its the same gate but it comes with a 4" and 6" extension piece for the same price. Had we gotten that one the gate+4" extension would have been perfect. Otherwise gate is strudy and easy to use. The walk through section in a bit narrow and you have to remember to step over the bottom bar. But whats parenting without sacrafice.

We needed this gate for an awkward area between our kitchen and dinning room and it worked out great! We were a little skeptical at first because of the price, but the gate is very sturdy. My daughter loves hanging off of it (22 pounds). It only took 10 minutes to mount because we had to use the mounting cups because of the uneven area the gate would not stay up pressure mounted alone. Very easy to open and close, but definitely too difficult for our 2 year old to figure out. For added height we mounted it 4 inches higher.

I am looking for something my 8 and 5 year old can pass through but my 1 year and puppy cannot. Will this work?

    • A. As an adult, I find it somewhat difficult to open and much harder to close as it has to be lined up just right. It is also a bit flimsy in the doorway! I would recommend "The First Years-Hands Free Gate". We LOVE this gate. It is a bit pricey, but worth it. It has a foot-petal operation that takes a certain amount of weight to open it, so it depends on how much your 8 yr old son weighs. Very easy to open and close quickly! Pups and small kids could not open this, try as they may!

    • A. I am sure the 8 yr-old will have no difficulty getting through, the five yr-old should be able to, my boys are 16 months and held in easily, and our 100 lb. American Bulldog cannot get through (but he's pretty trained and doesn't jump in the house, so he will not attempt to clear it). Very small dogs might find a way through. Guess it depends on the breed and the temperment...Hope this helps.

    • A. Yes, it can probably be opened by a four year old, but we use it for children younger than that, and they cannot open it. Good luck!

We purchased the gate-set it up and found that when we opened the gate all the tension was removed from the upper part of the gate and it would come away from the wall. When we tightened it even more the gate became impossible to open. It fits well but I don't understand the way it's designed. Relieve pressure to open gate and it falls away from the wall at the top. Too tall to step over. What are we doing wrong?

    • A. Appears to be too much tension on the bottom - try loosening that one up, then adjusting the top - it's a balancing act between the top and bottom tensions. (Note that there are wall-mountable plastic "cups" provided that may eliminate your tensioning problem if mounting the cups on the wall with a screw is an option.)

    • A. Ours came with small "casters" that fit on the wall (with a screw) and allow the gate to be pushed on. The bottom you can tighten all the way, but the top will need to be somewhat loose. My gate is fairly tight on top just to the point where you can get it open but not be stuck trying to open it. I placed a board along the bottom rail to keep it straight.

    • A. It's one of those you have to get it just right things. Get it to tight then just loosen it a tiny bit at a time until it works.

    • A. When you open the gate do you slide the top notch? I was making the same mistake at first, I would just raise the gate to open and the gate became too loose. But if you tighten it really good and when you open the gate you have to slide the top notch and then raise the gate to open.

    • A. You need to release the tension per the directions I had the same issue and by following the directions all worked as advertised.

    • A. my suggestion would be to make sure you are adjusting the top and bottom ends about the same. It may just take some tweeking and patients
