Glass "Tupperware" Substitute Done Right!!! After learning the large amounts of various chemicals/plasticizers that leak from each type of plastic, it was important find a glass substitute. While these are made of soda-lime instead of borosilicate like Pyrex use to be, and like Europe Pyrex is still today, these are still a good substitute for not baking with to ensure safety. The lids are air tight, and the glass is fairly strong. I've bumped glass against glass and other things several times with no breaking. Just use them to store cooled down stuff in and don't microwave or bake with them despite it saying you can, because soda-lime glass isn't as strong and it could break that way. Overall these are great tupperware replacements though and I use them for taking my lunch to work, storing my food left overs in, buying cheese and shredding it and storing it in these, etc. There are tons of uses, and I love that these don't have antimony, phthalates, BPA, etc! (I emailed World Kitchen which owns Pyrex to verify the lids are free of this too). If you're health conscious and don't want the typical cheap plastic anymore, this is the ticket. 10/15/2011
