Put Out the Fire Adult Halloween Costume 2 2
Dress portion is poor quality but cute Although it probably depends on who is sewing it (and it's possible I just got a dud), I found it hard to believe that the dress part was able to meet the quality requirements. If this is the quality of all of them, it won't make it through much more than one night without some adjustments.It is fabric (not vinyl) which is good- zips down the front and then to hide the zipper the part that folds over has squares of velcro to hold the fabric down flat. There is a strip of "reflector" fabric going across the top, another stripe at the waist (both are on the front only) and then there are 4 squares of reflector going down the middle (like hash marks). Also, the arms bands have reflector material around them, but it is thinner.My issues:Because of the strip going across the top, and the fact that there is no lining on the inside- just raw edges- it doesn't look right to leave the top a little open (to create a V-Neck look). It has to be zipped all the way up and the neckline does not really look "finished." It looks almost as if they just cut the material and left the raw edges without sewing it on that part.The arm bands are "finished" per se, but they used that zig zag stitch on the outside of the reflector tape and it is Black thread??The velcro squares line up on the inside with the reflector squares that are on the outside (down the front) and the hem is only tacked with thread in those areas so with the dress pulled tight, it really doesn't leave a clean line because the spots that are not sewn are pulling apart a little and they buckle (but you are still covered since the zipper is what really holds it closed).If you really wanted, most of these issues could be repaired without a huge amount of work. Either permanently by someone who knows how to sew or temporarily with a little hemming tape and creativity, but that just depends on how much you like it I guess.With all that being said, the hat and the extinguisher tank are cute, what makes the outfit really, and the tank probably wouldn't be cheap IF you could find it elsewhere (since the accessories are always the expensive part). They are both hard plastic- as they appear in the picture. The hat is similar to what you see in the toy section, only adult size. The material of the tank reminds me of one of those bazooka water guns or something like that.The tank is about the size of one of those mini "back pack" purses that used to be in style. The straps are a little short- if you have broad shoulders, you could wear it as a back pack, but it sits up high on your back (not like in the picture). I think it still looks cute to use one strap and just sort of throw it over your shoulder (if you are really petite, this might not be an issue either way).I was thinking of returning it originally- but I am also contemplating embellishing my own black dress with that reflector tape you can buy at the hardware store and using the hat and extinguisher to complete the look. The only, and I mean only problem that I had with this costume is that it was a bit too big for me. I got a S/M and I'm personally a small girl, so it was just a tad bit too big. Other than that it was awesome. 10/27/2010
