Horrible Product

Customer review by MWHPU2013

If you want something that tastes remotely like maple syrup, then I recommend that you buy the fake stuff made of corn syrup and artificial flavoring rather than this product. This "maple syrup" is completely flavorless, and extremely watery. Pure maple syrup, especially US Grade A dark amber, is much thicker, similar to molasses. I don't know how they can get away with the label calling it "pure." I do notice that it doesn't say 100% anywhere on the bottle, so maybe it's legal to label it as "pure" if the additive is just water. I don't know anything about labeling legalities, but I DO know that I will never be buying this product again. If I could give it 0 stars, I would.

I order 3 bottles of maple syrup. The syrup is good and the price is excellent. One bottle arrived broken, but Walmart reimbursed me promptly.

This is not real grade A maple syrup

I've had many brands of maple syrup, so I know what it should look and taste like. And no matter what the label says, this is not 100% real grade A amber maple syrup. Food fraud is rampant these days (did you know that most "honey" imported to the US has little or no actual honey in it, or that most "grouper" fish isn't grouper at all?) and I think the reason this syrup is so cheap is simply that their sources aren't giving them the real thing. Either that, or their processor isn't boiling it down sufficiently, leaving too much water in it. First of all, this product is thinner than any real maple syrup I've ever used, and it melts very quickly into a thin, ugly film when drizzled over oatmeal. Didn't look like the real thing at all. But more importantly, it didn't have any distinctive maple flavor, and wasn't even that sweet. It hardly changed the flavor of the oatmeal, whereas a teaspoon of actual maple syrup -- boiled down to 60% maple sugars, as it's supposed to be -- gives the oatmeal noticeable sweetness and distinct maple flavor. You can try this for yourself... if you have a bottle of this stuff, buy a small bottle of a name brand (real) maple syrup -- in which maple syrup is the only ingredient -- fix yourself two bowls of oatmeal or two stacks of pancakes, put an equal amount of each syrup on both, then taste the Great Value followed by the name brand. The difference will be night and day, and you'll never waste your money on this stuff again.

  • A. This stuff can be used in every thing for pouring it on snow cones, tea, coffee, ice cream, cereal, Ican go on tell I run out of stuff to write. The real stuff has no fats or cholesterol. It also is a source of iron and calcium. It is well worth the extra dollar and you use less than the sugar watered flavored stuff they sell.
