I have wanted a digital kitchen scale with a small footprint and found this one. It looks great on the counter and is very easy to use. It will also do the tare weight for you. You simply put your empty container on the scale first and turn it on. It will show you the weight of the container. Then hit the Tare button and the scale goes to zero. Put a quantity of food in the container on the scale and the scale then reflects only the weight of the contents. That easy. It measures to the nearest .05 ounce. My main uses for the scale will be to measure how much coffee grind to put in my coffee maker for consistently good coffee and when making hamburgers to be sure they are all the same size. I'm sure that in time that I will find many more kitchen uses for this scale now that I have one. Recommend highly.

Great kitchen scale

I like this scale. It's got a nice square surface to put your bowl or plate when weighing. There's a TARE button to set the scale to 0 after putting the bowl/plate on top in order to be able to weigh just the ingredients or other food items. I love that you can switch between ounces and grams, which is really helpful when you've got old recipes that were passed on which are written in grams rather than ounces. The display is nice and clear and easy to read. My Children also found it very easy to use and employ it for their "even sharing" of food items such as Blueberries.
The only thing that I found a bit odd was the battery compartment, the scale takes 2 AAA batteries and they've got their own little box attached to the wires which comes out, so it's advisable not to pull too hard. This separate box holding the 2 AAA batteries pops back inside the battery compartment, so when it's closed it "jiggles" a little around inside the main compartment. Once the scale is placed on the counter-top you won't notice that, only when the scale is carried from one spot to another and it doesn't seem to affect the performance of the scale.
Overall, this scale makes a great addition to any kitchen and I would definitely buy it again.

This product is sleek, compact, modern design, easy usage and readout. Great size to leave on counter or put away, can adjust for container weight prior to item placement and get an acurate weight of items to be consumed. Easy to clean with the stainless finish. Great product

Excellent scale easy operation

I could tell you that I loved the scale, but that would not be enough. Such a simple statement would not help you to understand the ease of use or portability of the device. So, on that note, I shall take you through the entire scale experience. Unlike most devices, the scale was easy to take in and out of the box. I did not have to fight to get it out and putting it back in the box for storage was even easier.

The scale does come with a booklet, though anyone with half of a brain can figure it out relatively easily. It has 3 buttons: on/off (duh), tare (zeroes the weight), and weight (changes the unit of measurement). The scale came with 2 AAA batteries, which I found to be the most appealing of all. The previous scale that I owned required watch batteries; which was a pain, unless you happen to be a constant watch wearer who hoards batteries. The only downside to the scale was the placement of the batteries. The unit is located directly on the bottom of the scale, so that the scale has to be placed on it’s glass top in order to change the batteries. However, that is no big deal. It just requires a little more care.

The device was very lightweight. As far as the measurements are concerned, the decimals increase by .05. This is reasonable for kitchen use but if you want to use it for more scientific purposes, I suggest trying another scale that does increase in .01 increments.

Overall, I would give this scale five stars. I really cannot find anything wrong or undesirable about the device. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to replace their current kitchen scale.

Great for a novice or professional cook/chef

I received this product from the Spark Reviewer Program. I couldn't wait to get it and was thrilled when I received it! This kitchen scale is so very easy to use and keep clean. There is nothing to assemble or calibrate. It is ready to use right out of the box. When a recipe calls for, say, 4 ounces of an ingredient, you can just weigh it on your scale. It has a 'tare' weight button which is so useful. So you can use a plate or bowl to hold the food you are weighing. You just turn on the scale, put the plate or bowl on the scale and press "Tare". The scale now shows "0.00". Next you put the food on the plate or bowl and it weighs just the food. I use this feature when I buy a large package of ground beef, and it works really well. Ground beef is often cheaper if you buy it in large packages or at Sam's or Costco. I buy the large package, bring it home and divide it into meal sized portions and freeze them. Before now, I would have to separate the meat and compare the bags to see if they all looked the same, but was never sure I was accurate. I now have perfectly weighed two pound packages of ground beef in zip lock type bags in my freezer. You can also place a piece of clear plastic wrap over the scale to keep it clean if you would like. I keep mine on the counter, and I put plastic wrap over it to keep it clean while not in use.

A "Must Have" in the kitchen

I received my new Farberware Electronic Kitchen Scale with Glass Platform in the mail and was excited to open it up and check it out. I don’t cook a lot (I’m a guy), but from time to time I find that it would be useful to have a kitchen scale. Not just for cooking, but anything.

The display is about 2” and it has 3 buttons on the front. One is power on/off and when you turn it on it zeros itself. Another is to change from pounds & ounces to ounces to grams to kilograms. The third is to zero the scale as you add ingredients. So you can put a bowl on the scale and zero it. Then add 1 lb. sugar and zero it and add 8 oz. of nuts and so on. But the total weight cannot go over the 11 lbs maximum of the scale. You can lie something directly on top of the (hygienic) glass platform that resist staining per the manufacture. Or on a plate, bowl, cup or whatever you’d like. It comes with 2 AAA batteries on the bottom side in a compartment and has an auto 2 minute turn off.

I plan on trying my own meals with it, weighing dog food, checking the weight of postal for the proper stamps and any and everything else that pops up. I think that this is well worth the price and you will be as happy as I am with mine.

This is a great scale for anything up to 11 lbs.

I have a smaller scale that I bought on ebay and have used previously. It has a higher height limit but isn't very accurate for low weight items. This scale can show pounds at the same time as ounces, unlike my previous scale. It can also show only ounces if you prefer or grams only.

You can zero out this scale as well. You can put in one ingredient, measure it, zero out the scale, and pour your second ingredient in to measure it as well without having to remove the first one. Very handy if you don't want to dirty up several dishes just to measure something. This is also helpful to zero out the scale when you place a heavy glass bowl on the scale before adding ingredients so you don't miscalculate.

The weight limit is eleven pounds. Which seems to be plenty high enough. Its hard to clean underneath the glass, but that isn't really a big issue. All in all I would recommend it. It is very accurate which is the most important.

Very Accurate

This is my first kitchen scale that I have ever owned. Always wanted and needed one. It's a nice size. Doesn't take up too much counter space. I love the add and weigh feature. It can weigh up to 11 pounds. I thought the glass would come off though so that it can go into the dishwasher or at least be washed in the sink. But it doesn't. You just have to wipe it off while it is attached with mild soap and water. So I use a bowl or plate or even plastic wrap on top of the glass then add the food. You can't use harsh cleaners on it, so this way works best while weighing meat products. It's great if you are dieting. Now I can weigh everything. I weigh my cereal in grams for accuracy. Plus I can buy bulk ground meat then split it into pounds at home to save money. I'm so glad I finally got one. I would of given it 5 stars if the glass came off for cleaning somehow.

Nice little scale.

I recently moved and lost my "analogue" scale (which I missed) I researched the various scales available and when Walmart offered the Faberware Electronic scale to me I was very pleased to evaluate it.
This scale has a glass platform which is easy to clean and is large enough for most kitchen uses. In the past most were plastic and required washing with each use.
Which brings me to the second and best feature. There are 3-buttions at the base , off/on, tare. and ounce/gram. The tare button allows you to progressively add items to be added. Example; weigh a bowel/container that your using and press tare and the scale reverts to 0. Add a item and only it is weighed. Press tare again, add additional items, and each is weighted independently. No more empting between items added. (A real time saver)
The digital display is easy to read under normal lighting but can be hard to read if the item being weighted is overhanging the platform and casting a shadow. This is the only reason I didn't give it 5-stars. It should have a LED light behind the display. LED's use very little voltage so running the battery down wouldn't be a problem.
It uses 2 standard AAA batteries so that should be of no concern.
I was very satisfied with the overall construction and it should last a long time. (Well worth the low price from a well established company).
