Battery cover fixed!!! Great powered toothbrush!

First thing to mention here: They fixed the battery compartment!!! Unfortunately , there are no instructions on how to replace the batteries; in fact, no instructions at all, though it’s fairly intuitive. The next paragraph explains how to do this on the current version of this model. It is very easy for me, and I don’t have a lot of strength in my fingers!!! I didn’t have an earlier version of this toothbrush, but apparently it was a nightmare to attempt to replace the batteries on this model. It is a piece of cake now, but there are no directions to explain how to do it. If you just try and pull the bottom cover off, you will probably not succeed; in fact, you might break the cap so that it will not hold the batteries in place. Here’s what you need to do: Press firmly on both raised dots in the center of the blue half-circles just above the bottom cover. It will release the cap. Then gently pull the cap away from the bottom . The polarity of the batteries is marked on each side of the bottom of the brush. It is hidden by the cover but you can see it when the cover is removed. The cap will go on the base in either direction. Alternatively, you can press one raised dot on one side, then the other, and then remove the cap. It can’t get much easier than this. I feel for those who bought earlier versions of this toothbrush, but the good news is that the company listened to the complaints and made changes. I bought this one knowing I could get a refund if it was difficult to work with the battery compartment, and I was quite happy that it was a breeze to change batteries. Since the batteries come packed on the outside of the device, I had to remove the cap to insert the AA batteries before I could use it, so I got to test that part out right away. I did this several times to try and see what all the complaints were about regarding the bottom battery compartment cover, but I didn’t see anything to gripe about. I believe that those who complained must have had an earlier version of this one. I know it’s not exactly the same device because they advertise on the back of the package “Improved technology delivers more consistent battery performance” which indicates that they made at least one change to it. I do not know how long the batteries last yet since I just got this today and made some comparisons to the rechargeable model I have. Because Braun did not include any instructions, I gave it a 4-star rating for "ease of use" though it was fairly intuitive to me how to use it and how to open the battery cover. Overall, it gets 5 stars from me, though. This electric toothbrush works very well. No gimmicks, it just works. It's the battery-powered version of the one recommended to me by my dental hygienist (which was the Oral B Professional Healthy Clean Precision 1000). It’s very similar in most respects except for a few things. It has removable batteries, not rechargeable fixed batteries inside the case. The ones that come with it are Duracell AA’s, but you might be able to use rechargeable NiMH batteries, which I have not tried (yet). It has a 2-minute timer for brushing your teeth; after 2 minutes have elapsed, it shuts itself off. (Of course, you can turn it back on again if you need to.) Unlike the rechargeable version I mentioned above, it does not vibrate differently every 30 seconds to remind you to move on to another quarter of your mouth. (I would have paid a bit more for that feature.) There are no instructions to explain about the timer, but it has the word “timer” just below the ON button (which doesn’t have the word “ON” anywhere near it) and it mentions it on the package as well. I can see someone trying this out for the first time and thinking that it was defective. Braun would do well to include a slip of paper with brief instructions on this device. It would make using the brush a much better experience for first-time users. This uses the same brush heads that the the Oral B Professional Healthy Clean Precision 1000 uses (several other rechargeable models also use the same brush heads also), so they should be readily available. There are at least three types of brush heads for the Oral B toothbrushes. I like the ones with the small round brush only, but there are dual-action types also if you prefer those, and at least one other type. I did exchange the heads between my rechargeable Oral B toothbrush and this one and they fit either handle. That being the case, this may be less expensive in the long over buying those $5 throw-away battery-powered toothbrushes that have no replaceable heads, especially if the generic replacement heads work out. It would feel wasteful to me, throwing a powered brush away every 3-6 months or so. There are generic brush heads available. I haven't tried any of these yet, but I have read that some generic brush heads do not last and break. Some work, others don't, and you can have a mix of these in a batch if you buy them from online auction sites. If you buy them here you can send them back for a refund if you are not satisfied. There’s some satisfaction in knowing that, but it can be an aggravation to return them, so you may just want to buy the brand name replacement brush heads. The brushes have some bristles with a tint that fades over time to let you know when it's time to replace it. I think it's more of a marketing tool to get you to buy replacement brush heads more often, but you can use that as a reminder if you prefer. I will replace mine when it feels too soft. The brush heads have a colored ring between the head and handle so you can tell one from another if more than two people in a household use the same product. The replacement heads, if you buy them in a multi-pack, have different colored rings, so if you buy one of those packs when you buy the product, you will probably have several colors to choose from. Alternatively, you could color one ring with fingernail polish and let it dry before putting it on a brush head, or just use some colored tape around one or more of the main parts of the device in your bathroom. You could even make a label for each handle with the user's name on it. Or just put the brushes in different places for each family member. Overall, this is much better than the inexpensive ones I've had in the past. I will definitely brush my teeth more often now that it's so easy to do. Easy to do? How hard can it be to brush your teeth with a regular toothbrush? You have to try one of these to understand. I tend to brush too quickly and I’m not very thorough, and this device helps me time how long I brush in each quarter of my mouth. Sure, I could set a timer and keep an eye on it, switching to different parts of my mouth as the timer counts down, but this is very convenient. It also probably does a better job without brushing too hard. When I’m done using this brush or the rechargeable one I have, I feel like I just came from the dentist’s office having had my teeth cleaned. That's better than any powered or manual brush I've ever used in the past. I can highly recommend this powered toothbrush!

Walmart associate

I am a Wall-Mart associate and I bought this toothbrush and it works great they have fixed the old cover which was having problems with many customers in the past so ignore the old reviews because the cover clips into place now and has no issues. P.S. wasn't able to confirm that I am a associate because I just started working with Wall-Mart.

battery compartment trick, turns on alone

The trick to the battery compartment is to wipe the black rubber gasket with a bit of water before replacing the cap. My problem with this item is that after 6 months of use, now it turns on by itself, often in the middle of the night! The company sent me a coupon for a replacement. Hopefully the new one will last longer.

It would be difficult to find fault with this product. On a trip to many foreign countries you find 220 volt electric service requiring step down transformers and adapter plugs. No problem here! you can get AA batteries almost anywhere on the planet, but, you probably would not need them anyway as mine is still going strong after six weeks. You might assume that I am happy with this product. Your right!

I've had 3 rechargeables over the years and each one needed a new battery when they wouldn't hold a charge for more than a few days. I tried to replace the battery in one such unit, but not having the proper equipment to desoder the circuit board to remove the old battery, I botched the job. The Oral B Pro-Health is less than one-half the price of the Vitality. You don't throw away your flashlight when it needs new batteries so why a battery toothbrush when it needs a new battery. With the Pro-Health you can insert and remove any type of batteries you want (rechargeable or other) and with 2 batteries, it will run a lot longer than the single battery in my old rechargeable. Highly recommended - just bought another for my travel case.

  • A. Walmart, Target, and other drug stores or places that sell these toothbrushes. Some places don't carry all the different styles, but you should find the brushes at one of the stores, or as a last resort, buy online. Word of caution: Buy the Oral-B brand. I bought 3 of the generics and all of them went bad in little time. They would also wear funny and pinch your mouth. The price difference isn't that horrible, but the generic quality is.

  • A. Hi, Lisa. From the description of the product, it looks like the brush came with the Oral-B Precision brush heads. I checked the site and the replacements are available on here. Thanks for asking! Kim

  • A. This uses the same brush heads as the rechargeable models like the Oral-B Professional Healthy Clean Precision 1000 and others. I found that the brush head on this one interchanges with the model above (which I also own) and the one from that model works on this one. There are generics available at Wal Mart and online, but read the reviews before you take a chance on them. Some were not very happy with those generics, and I would expect mixed results if you buy them online. I bought some online from another source (Ben's Outlet, but I haven't received them yet) and they were about $1.10 per brush head in a 12-pack. I figure that if 1 out of 3 work well, it was a good purchase. You'll find the brand name and one generic version (Equate brand) available at Wal Mart stores.
