The instruction booklet was very helpful and easy to understand. The cooker worked perfectly for canning beans. This cooker can also be used to can in the hot water bath system, which makes it useful for all types of canning. I would recommend to anyone who wants a quality canner.

My husband has a HUGE garden. We love to can and freeze as much as we are able. However, we only have a regulare size pressure cooker, so we could only can pints. My husband has been wanting a larger pressure cooker for years. For our anniversary this year, I surprised him with this Presto 16 quart canner. He was so excited, that he had to make a batch of chili so that he could can it in quarts. He just loves this canner. I will recommend it to all of my canning friends.

Bought this for my Mother-in-law. First ordered the 23 qt. online and it was too big for her. Exchanged it at the store with no problems and ordered the 16 qt. online. Came packaged securely and earlier than expected. Just as big around as the 23qt but not as tall. Holds 7 qt. jars.

is there a dial or anything that allows you to control the pounds of pressure?
by jovanny 7/10/2013
  • 15 lbs.

  • it goes up to 20 p.s.i. I think. (w/safety valve to prevent blow up). The dial you use to control pressure is the dial for your stovetop burner.

  • I only go to 15#

  • I would guess that 20 is the max as shown on the gauge. I use an electric stove and I have found that when the pressure gets about 5 psi lower than what pressure I need, if I start lowering the heat on the stove proportionately as the psi goes up, and watch the gauge closely, by the time it reaches the psi I want (usually 15psi) I have gotten to the heat level on my stove that holds the psi where I want it without going over. Hope this helps.

  • It goes up to 20 lbs and it does have a gauge. You control the pressure by adjusting the heat of the stove eye burner.

  • There is a pressure gage on top that reads up to twenty pounds of pressure. And a jigler that lets stem out at fifteen pounds.

  • The only thing directly allowing you to control the pounds of pressure is the heating element itself. Once it begins building pressure, its good to lower your heat to Med-Hi (all stove-tops will vary) to maintain 15 PSI.

  • The gauge reads 20 pounds of pressure, but no recipes call for more than 15 pounds. Per the instruction manual, "The air vent/cover lock is a visual indicator of the presence of pressure. When in the up position pressure is in the unit, when in the down position there is no pressure in the canner. Also, as pressure builds the pointer of the gauge will move across the face. Continue heating until the pressure gauge registers the correct pressure. Adjust heat to maintain the correct pressure on the dial gauge."
