I've been looking for a gas chainsaw for a few weeks now. I wanted one to cut firewood. With a lot of land in the county where I live, it's free for the taking. So I decided on this model. I had it working 5 minutes out of the box. It was easy to assemble. I also found the gas and oil openings to be nice a large for easy pouring. It took a little bit to start, but once started it ran well. It did stall a couple times, but I think maybe that was just air in the line. As far as cutting, it went thru newly felled trees with ease. I cut a lot of wood in a short amount of time. I believe this chainsaw will be easy enough to take into the woods, to harvest downed trees for firewood. At under $100.00, I can't see how you can go wrong.

I am a single mom and I did it! I have always been nervous to use powertools but have been slowly overcoming that fear. We love camping and camp fires and we pick up wood around the neighborhood when people cut down trees. Problem is, they are usually 4-6 feet long. My 13 yr old son talked me into buying this chainsaw...instead of using the reciprocating saw to cut the wood we collected last year. I read the manual thoroughly and after using it I highly recommend this product. Very easy to use, did not kickback once, and it was very easy to adjust the chain. I'm no longer worried about picking up larger tree limbs for our campfires,

This saw I've owned for about 5 years and have been cutting firewood for the last two. and have almost worn out my second chain. and this saw has been good to me. no break downs or problems of any kind. would I recommend this saw? you bet in fact I would and will buy another when this one wears out. Lord willing.I have read some of these reviews about this saw and I flat don't believe some of them based on my personal experience this saw.

    • Yes it can be done. But why? The motor is designed for this size bar. Using a larger 18 inch bar would cause extreme wear and tear on the little motor. With a 14 inch bar you can cut up to 28 inches. If you need more spend a few more $$ and buy the Poulan 18" say. And Yes, you can put a 14" bar on it. Note: cutting chains can be made in almost any length you want at a saw shop. But why spend the extra money?

    • Yes you can and as far as the engine size goes. Even though the pp4218avx is labeled as having a 42cc motor and this one is supposedly a 33cc. Both saws have the exact same engine. Don't believe me? check the part numbers for the engine parts on both saws with poulans parts list off their website. They are all identical. I've contacted Husqvarna who makes these saw under the Poulan label and they say that all of the saws are in fact 42cc although I believe they're all probably 35-38cc and their passing them off for every size in the book. So go ahead and put on an 18 inch blade and you'll basically have the same exact saw as the pp4218avx.

    • yes you can, and it works great with an 18inch.

    • Yes you can. However, I would not recommend it. The cost will be close to a real 18 inch saw that has a larger engine designed for larger trees. You cant turn a tiny 14 inch saw into an 18 inch saw by simply changing the chain. Most likely bog it down and get it stuck in the tree.

    • The answer to your question is 33 cc's. The saw works great. The biggest problem people have with chainsaws is not giving the saw time to work and forcing the saw through the material too fast. This causes all kind of problems. How fast should you cut? Listen to the motor. It should be running fast and not lugging down. If it is lugging down you are feeding the wood too fast. Back off and feed the saw in to the wood at the rate the saw can handle and still keep the RPM's up. This also depends on how sharp you chain is. A dull chain is hard on the bar and causes you to spend more money on gas, saw wear, and bar replacement. You can rock the saw or move it back and forth too. Not much help but it is very common. I know it is a rookie using the saw when I see this happening. All that extra movement and work. No wonder you get tired!!! Just relax and let the saw do the work...isn't that why you bought it?

    • 33cc-- it seems like it has a lot of "oomph" for 33cc's too.
