    • A. Thanks "anonymous customer" for your answer. The threaded knob I'm referring to is the one protruding from the left side of the image I uploaded. As you say, it would seem the knob is for panning side to side, but the knob doesn't loosen or tighten. It just slides in or out.

    • A. I'm not sure what "threaded knob" you are referring to. There are several adjustments. You can rotate long handle counter clockwise to pan up or down. On the right side you can lossen to pan from side to side. on the mount you can loosen for vertical pictures. there is a threaded base that you can turn counter clockwise to loosen & tighten to raise the tripod even higher using the crank handle.

This tripod is great overall for the value. But it has a major flaw. The 1/4 screw that secures the camera to the quick release plate, has a weak metal wing part (see my photo) as a turning mechanism to tighten and loosen the screw. It is hinged into the screw and bends VERY easily. I replaced it with a flat similar sized 1/4 flathead screw that I pulled from another hardly used tripod's quick release plate. TURN THIS SCREW WITH EXTREME CARE. It needs a lot of pressure to tighten because of the rubber or foam padding on top of the quick release plate and on the bottom of the camera mounting area, if you don't want your camera shifting around. I mentioned the flaw first because if you don't have a replacement screw or aren't careful turning this winged screw you won't be able to secure or remove your camera without a pair of pliers. The tripod is great for photo stills or non panning or tilting video. It's somewhat sturdy. The pivoting feet adjust superbly on carpet. The plastic, aluminum and foam handles materials are worth the money. The carrying handle is great.

This tripod is very sturdy and gets the job done. The one thing flaw is that the pan head it had hiccups from time to time while using it and also when you try to move the pan head up and down it is very jittery

I use this to mount my older digital camcorder for recording beach volley ball tournements and it holds up well to the strong on shore breeze. This thing is made of alumninum and is very light for its size. Its also strong, I set up a Nikon DSLR and hooked my bookback in the middle of the tripod as counter weight. It was holding at least 15lbs. You can point it in any direction and orient the camera how you like. big plus for me because i like to point my camera at the sky. the locking mechanisms allow you to control how tight or loose you want to be able to move your camera very well. at the appropriate tightness, you can move the camera very smoothly and it will stay in place when you let go, but make sure its not too loose. all the tightning nuts can all be adjusted by hand too, including the piece that connects to the camera(ive seen some tripods that require a screwdriver). this tripod is sturdy, and can be set up very quickly. and it packs up nicely. i can attach it to my rebel camera bag with no problems. Pros: - Plenty sturdy for point and shoot and small video cameras. Works great with a big SLR, it holds the havy ones great - Easy to use quick release plate - Tall enough for most purposes. I'm about 6'2" and have no problem using it. - Good features and easy to use - level, pan and tilt lock, portrait mode, crank elevator with lock (not sure what this is actually called). - Very light - Folds up to a pretty compact size - Good price - Carrying handle - Comes with a bag Cons: So far no Cons, Im very happy with this tripod.

    Best Tripod Ever

I have bought many tripods througout the years. Lightweight tripods, a sweet carbon fiber tripod, and several that have proved to be nothing more than junk. In all that time, my favorite go to tripod is this Polaroid 57" Tripod with Case. It is well designed, looks great, and holds up well with extensive use. I go hiking 2-3 times a month, and use my tripod several times a week outside, I also use it inside some. The benefit of this tripod is, it is built like a tank. It can support your heavy body camera with a heavy telephoto lens. Recently I went shooting with a friend in the mountains, I had my camera with battery grip hooked up on this tripod and head taking photos of some ice formations, when the wind started blowing hard, my friends tripod flew out from underneath him, causing his camera to drop and break (always wear your neck strap, you use it to protect your camera, its not a fashion statement!) my tripod didn't budge. If I had to do it over again, i would always buy this tripod. If it got stolen, or fell off a cliff, there would be no choice. I love this tripod, you cannot go wrong with it, and I highly recommend this. It will support a heavy camera with a long lens. 5 out of 5 ps, another cool feature, is the tripod has "hand warmers" meaning when your out in the cold freezing, the grips do not freeze your hand off, so you can still work with and touch your tripod (but try not to touch the cold metal!). Overall I'm really impressed with this tripod. I do not think you can do better. If your wanting one for the studio, you could use this one as well, it will be harder for little kids to accidentally knock it over. (but can still happen) but it will NOT turn over because of a breeze. I mainly use it my on nature hikes and trips.
