    Great medium storage shelf

It's really hard to find a shelf this size; At 12" deep by 32" wide, it's neither too wide nor too deep and is great for laundry rooms, small apartments, ect. This shelf is FAR sturdier than other plastic shelves I've tried, snaps together like cake, and has very dense, circular legs (albeit hollow). Not quite as sturdy as steel shelves, but at the price point you can't even touch anything like it at Home Depot or Lowes. It doesn't tilt or buckle with heavier things - right now it is holding my 5.5 HP shop vac, my Heavy 2' long toolbox, and a roll of dynamat. Added bonuses: 1) shelves flare out in the front, giving better tilt support, 2) shelves have a small lip on the back to prevent things from falling off, and 3) the unit is only 4 feet tall - making it great for shorter folks.

I had previously purchased the 5 shelf unit and thought this would be the same. I was wrong. While the 5 shelf came with the features I wanted (side attachments to connect units side by side and holes to drill them to wall) this unit came with 4 poles and 4 shelves. While I can add more to increase the height I would not recommend it as this is unstable without being anchored. I ended up putting holes in my top shelf to drill it to the wall to ensure stability. The weight on the shelves seemed concerning. The plan was to put a small microwave on top, which in turn had to be removed as the shelf started to bow downward from the weight in the center. All in all, it's sturdy when together but not stable. The shelves hold my cookbooks alright but there is no room for anything in front of the books on that shelf. If you just want to organize some lightweight products or use it for storing lighter things it's good, and the shelves are sturdiest at the sides, but once anything of any weight is on it, the shelves start to bow.

I've purchased many sets of no-tools plastic shelving units over the years. What I really like about this set are the details. There is a small, thin lip that runs along the sides and back of each shelf, making it hard for books, paint cans or boxes to slip off. Also, the color difference between the legs (slightly darker) and the shelves, as well as the slight convex bow of the front side of the shelves, really makes them more stylish without making them more expensive. What makes these such an unbelievable deal is the free delivery. These shelves are life savers and at this price, they're a blessing.

    • A. Nope. The bottoms of the shelves have a deep waffle-type pattern, which is what makes them as sturdy as they are (for plastic shelving). When you put them in right side up, you see that there is a slight lip (1/4 inch) on the back and the two sides. . . but not on the front.

    • A. No, the shelves are not flat. Underneath, the shelf is criss-crossed with many plastic supports to aid rigidity. So you cannot use them upside down.

    • A. The pvc pipes supplied give you 13 inches between the shelves. You could easily cut them to make them shorter, or you could by pvc pipe to make them taller, but you might compromise the stability of the unit.
