Why have a cage when you can have a castle?

I bought this to replace a wire cage, to end litter spills. It's MUCH cleaner to have around since it's all see-through plastic (with plenty of ventilation holes). Even the bottom "cell" is transparent enough to watch our hamster's silly antics when she's in her burrows. The cage has 3 spots for extensions which means more room to explore. The wheel got noisy quickly but a couple of drops of olive oil quieted it right down. My family took the cage on a 2-day road trip and it traveled great! Just had to remove the tower extension and she was good to go. The clip-on bottom makes cleaning the cage a snap. In all this is one of the best cages I've owned (which is saying something as I've kept caged pets since I was a kid).

I have a hampster named saidee. I paid alot more for this cage. I got it at a pet store and paid double. But i love this cage. Saidee has had this cage for 8 months now. I take her traveling in it and everything. It works great because it doesnt really let a smell out or too much wind in. I am considering buying another one just because she chews up her top. And it has been awhile.

Peanut loved it!

About 5 yrs ago I bought a similar cage as this; only thing different is the color, It used to be multi-colored. My hamster, Peanut, loved the tower and having a lower level, as well as his wheel. In my opinion, the wheel on this cage is better than most, because it has a little tray on the bottom of it which if the hamster is like how peanut was he'd take his food in there and eat it, then would run after eating. His food would collect in the tray. It did get squeaky but all i did was rub a nonsented hard, candle like, wax around the one part every now and then and it was perfect. I read the reviews on here and i saw that someone put olive oil, or something like that, on theres when itd squeak. Overall its a great cage, not too hard to clean, but for a full sized hamster its a bit small, but works, just add tunnels and itll be good! The only thing I didnt like was the water bottle. I bought one of those no drip ones and put a tunnle connector on it and it worked fine. And the strap for the lid to stay on eventually broke from the number of times I took the lid off or put back on, so i just used a rubber band the same way i used the strap, and Peanut didnt escape. He only escaped like once or twice, (maybe), because the tunnels werent connected all the way. But anyways, I hope this helps.

We have a wire cage and somehow our hamster can open the door. Even though we have taking pliers and closed it shut.

  • We had this cage and our hamster chewed out but it took almost 2 years for it to happen. Our hamsters have not been heavy chewers though.

  • Any cage made out of plastic is in danger of being chewed by any rodent. However, if you have a serious chewer, I'm sure he'll go for the 2-level flooring or ladder first before he figured out how to chew the side of this cage. Try to provide extra chew sticks for him and see if that helps. (I just discovered edible "huts" at petsmart made out of straw that my gerbil likes to gnaw on instead of his cage).

  • Since this cage is plastic no there are things that the hamster will chew on on this cage and you'll see where in time, but if you don't want to invest in buying another cage you can always take one of those little locks they give you on suitcases and put that where you open and close the cage door. I used to do that and my little peanut never got out after that.

  • I have this for a regular hamster, and it fits fine. She uses the wheel as a nest, though. The wheel squeaks a lot and she has chewed a BIG hole in it, right at the corner. I also used to keep a dwarf hamster and (separately) a mouse in that cage and there were never any problems. What's wrong with you, Cheddar?

  • Yes, the hamsters can chew through this cage. We have only had it for a few months and in that time one of our hamsters chewed a hole almost the size of a dime in the side of the clear plastic of the main area. We tried all different chew "toys" to encourage her to chew elsewhere, but to no avail. We had to move them back to the glass aquarium cage that we have. This was a total waste of money.

  • My hamster chews on every part of the cage she can put her teeth on and after nearly a year living in it, there's still no sign she's nibbled it at all. The extension holes on the sides have slot-doors that fit flush with the cage so it's impossible for a hamster to chew them or budge them. The only other hole that isn't connected to the wheel or tower is covered by a dome that's far too high for any hamster to reach.
