Philips Stereo System with iPhone/iPod Dock, DCM250/37 4.3 5 16 17
Nice Executive Radio This model the DCM 250/37 is a replacement to the DCM 230. It now is compatible and has the works with Iphone certification.PROs:nice design and professional look. nice array of features and sounds for $149 radio. CD, AM/FM, USB, Aux, Ipod Dock, etc. Controller is well layed out and obvious that philips put some thought into the design and layout.CONs:power brick for power plug, although it is small. AM/FM antenna is not built in and does not appear to be strong. I received no stations without antennas not even the strong local stations. I attached the AM/FM antennas and was able to get local providence stations, but was not successful with Boston stations. It is disappointing that Philips is marketing this radio as an executive radio yet the AM/FM feature and power bricks are signs of cost cutting to reach a desired price point in the retail channel.I would have given this radio a five if the AM/FM antennas were built in and no power brick.Overall the radio is nice and definitely a good value for the features. Even in this day and age though AM and FM are helpful for sports and news stations in the office.Philips appears to have a DCH250 which has HD radio and Itunes tagging. Unfortunately I have not seen it for sale anywhere. It adds some nice features, but then loses the AM and the cd player, which are nice features for an office radio. I would have paid more for this radio if it had the cd player and AM feature. 08/09/2009
Misleading -- NOT compatible with iphone 3gs I bought this product because I wanted a speaker for my new iphone 3gs. For those new to the iphone 3gs, here is a quick update: because the iphone has phone interference (which is what causes that funny static sound in your speakers) iphone compatible speakers are made so you don't have to put your iphone in "airplane mode" to listen to achieve clear sound. The obvious problem with "airplane mode" is you cannot receive phone calls, text messages or email alerts. To get speaker systems equipped with the technology enabling you to leave your iphone in regular mode adds a significant cost to a speaker system.I gladly paid this -- I knew I was looking for something specific and high quality electronics are usually worth the extra money. The first time I docked my ipod, I was dismayed when the now-familiar message "this accessory was not made to be compatible with an iphone. For best sound, switch to airplane mode" popped up. I guess to Phillips, being "made for an iphone" means something different than it does to me. Made for an iphone should mean "the iphone will fully function with this equipment." Moving on...I bought this to put on my nightstand as a charger/alarm/iphone dock. While the unit did have overall good sound, I was disappointed in the quality of sound at low levels. Also, the "works as an alarm" function was definitely an afterthought. The buttoms are tiny -- not an ideal situation for someone sleepy. Also the bass was weak -- even on the "enhanced bass" setting. Now I generally don't listen to heavy bass, so when I think the bass is lacking... need I say more? Finally, because of the incompatability of the speakers to my iphone, I couldn't control the ipod through the remote control. Instead, I had to use the actual ipod buttons to pull up what I wanted to listen to.I'm sure my experience would be completely different if I had a regular ipod -- the remote would work and the issue of receiving calls would be null. But the bottom line is this unit is not what was advertised -- made for an iphone. It is not worth the extra money required. Buy a cheaper version instead with a better alarm clock function. I am returning mine to walmart tomorrow and will continue to search for a fully-compatible system for my iphone. 09/08/2009
Very very nice!! I bought this for my Mom to replace one I had bought at Brookstone (lasted a year) and she really likes this one a lot better! It's for her spacious kitchen and the sound output of her music (iPhone, radio or CD) is excellent! Also, the fact that she can charge her iPhone while listening to her music right there in the kitchen is an extra bonus. I am buying myself one just like this because it is so nice. Easy to set up, very nice to look at! Thanks! 12/13/2009
Worth the money I have two of these now, and love the big sound and convenience of taking music entertainment that is of high quality wherever you want such as having a backyard party or listening to music in the kitchen. I would recommend this product. 12/20/2009
