I have used "Pellon Heavyweight Fusible Fleece" when quilting and love the stuff. My last project was a stuffed rabbit my granddaughter wanted made from a T-shirt type knit. It worked so well the rabbit holds it shape and even sets up in the middle of the bed. I plan to use it so often I ordered a whole bolt. Two things to keep in mind if you plan to sew with it, 1) it's best to allow the fabric fused with the fleece to cool completely after ironing and before sewing. When the glue is still hot it effects the way thread and needle pass through the fabric and makes it stick. 2) Sew with care and try to get it right the first time. Ripping the seam can be difficult, the thread can be removed but it takes time .

I usually use regular fusible, but the heavyweight is much nicer to work with in my bags. Gives much more body, and still sews easily. Will use this from now on.

This fusible fleece is heavy duty and can not even be purchased at Joann's. I have used many different kinds in the tote bags I make and this is the heaviest and best buy. I can buy on line and basically get 5 yards free. The bolt is only $35 and it is 10 yards, at Joann's I pay $70 for a 15 yard bolt and it is not nearly as heavy duty. So for the same money I get an extra 5 yards and it is delivered to my door with a small shipping fee. Very happy and will continue to order this

I use this product for the bags that I make (have made 100 or more). I was so glad that I could buy it by the bolt rather than yardage. It is perfect for my use in these bags.

I want something heavier than a flannel sheet but less thick/warm as regular batting.

    • A. I tried it once and was not happy with the results. The fabrics were much harder to quilt with the even feed quilting foot, because one side was too stabilized to flow evenly. I will not try it again, I have much better luck with just batten

    • A. I wouldn't used a fusible batting for a lightweight quilt!

    • A. Yes I use it in almost all my quilting projects as in South Louisiana you use heavy blankets about 7-12 days a year.

    • A. Hi Jkim, Yes, I think it would work. I took a piece and layered it between two pieces of cotton just to get an idea of the hand, and it felt pretty good (not too stiff, which was my only concern since it's a bit denser than our battings). It's a great product and it is used a lot in quilting projects. I hope this helps, and good luck!

    • A. I tried that once and was not happy with the results. Once it is fused into place there is no give so the fabrics became very hard to quilt. The fabrics can not move together because one is too stabilized. I am not a professional sewer but I did not have good luck and will not try it again.

    • A. Hello, Although this is not an ideal product to use instead of batting, I've consulted some other quilting experts at Pellon to discuss. We think it would work, but it might make the finished quilt more heavy and a bit stiffer than you'd like. And if you want a comforter rather than a quilt we would not recommend the Fusible Heavyweight fleece - we'd recommend the polyester batting instead. The Heavyweight Fleece is a nice weight product, but it just might be too "boardy" for your quilt. If you have a Wal-Mart near you that carries fabric, I'd recommend you get a small piece and test it with your quilting fabrics to see if you like the result before you buy the bolt. I hope that helps!
