Great Price for good monitor

Customer review by SmartShopper1298

5.0 stars 9/5/2013 by SmartShopper1298

This is a sturdy and well-built monitor. It is easy to use and small enough to travel with. Some people have shown concern that this is a discontinued item and thus repair parts are not available, but that is not an issue. If something were to break, I, for one, would replace the machine rather than hoping that I fixed it properly. This monitor is sturdy enough that, with proper care, it should last several years. The best part is even though this is a budget monitor, it is listed with the British Hypertension Society (BHS) AND the dabl Educational Trust databases. Also, it is a Pass under the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) testing protocol as of May 2010, and awards this monitor a Recommended rating for at-rest use. This means this monitor has been tested and approved by a few national and international medical societies. This was the best budget blood pressure monitor with these accreditations at this price that I could find.

I seldom write reviews; however, after receiving this blood pressure monitor I decided I needed to do so! Unfortunately, I have had to monitor my BP for a while, so I've gone through a few differnt types. This one is the best I've used. Easy, quick, great memory and average function, and it looks cool too!! I am very pleased with this monitor!

I do a lot of blood pressures daily at work and it is very time consuming to do manually. Also, when I got into a patients room and they have visitors talking or the TV blaring it is difficult to listen for the manual blood pressure. I decided to purchase this cuff after reading reviews of it's accuracy and I am not disappointed. I took it out of the box and took a manual blood pressure on my husband and then used this automatic one, it was very close! All of my colleagues wanted to try it out and when they got a high reading they automatically thought it was the faulty cuff. It wasn't! This cuff gets pretty tight and can be uncomfortable, but it is better than having to take the blood pressure 2 or 3 times if you were unable to hear the manual reading. I would definitely buy again, and believe most of my colleagues will be buying one!

  • A. Yes you can do it yourself. The pressure cuff has plastic insert that keeps it round and just slides up your arm. Then a Velcro flap closes it off. The unit (air pump) has enough volume that the cuff doesn't have to be installed really tight to make it work. I recommend this unit.

  • A. Yes, it is very easy to do by yourself. This is because the cuff is preshaped and once you have it set for the size of your arm all you need to do is slide it on. I love it.

  • A. Sure, I use rechargeables with mine. But I do use Powergenix 1.6 volt rechargeable. Regular batteries deliver 1.5v. Most rechargeable batteries deliver 1.2-1.35 volts. While most modern electronic devices should compensate for the lower voltage, I always buy rechargeables that are rated at 1.5. You can actually see a difference if you put 1.2V batteries versus 1.5V batteries in your flashlight. I but Powergenix rechargeables that are rated at 1.6V for my AA and AAA batteries.
