Not what I expected. The base is not stained it is painted. It's not a perfect paint job, but it's good enough for the price. It has a thin profile if you are looking to put it in a smaller space. 06/11/2010

Chocolate Lampbase Overall, this is not a bad little lamp base. The on/off switch is at the top of the base, not on the cord, which I like. Also, the color is exactly what I was looking for. It is an honest-to-goodness chocolate color, just like a Hershey's milk chocolate bar. It looks much darker on my computer screen so I was iffy about buying it but figured I could always spray paint it if the color wasn't right. Fortunately, I didn't have to paint it since the color is spot-on. I bought this for my blue-and-brown nursery to go with a polka dot lamp shade I also bought online here. They look great together, and work perfectly with the other decor in the nursery. This base would be perfect for almost any room in your house, it's not too big for a nightstand, yet still big enough to use as a reading light in the living room. It is very bright with a 60-watt bulb in it, lights up the whole nursery. I am going to use it for middle-of-the-night-feedings, so I plan to switch to a 25-watt bulb so as not to jar the baby awake when it is turned on.I do wish the base didn't cost so much. It's a good little base, nothing wrong with it at all, I just think it's overpriced for what you get. 10/25/2010
