Great TV stand at a great price

I ordered this TV stand on Sunday and it arrived on Wednesday. I'll admit, I was a little nervous about having it delivered since a lot of reviewers mentioned damages when they had it shipped to their house but I didn't have a choice since I couldn't get anyone to help me carry it home. To my relief, I was one of the lucky ones who's order arrived without a scratch. The unit is heavy & has a solid feel to it. When I opened the box and saw all the pieces I thought I may be in a little over my head, but turns out it was not that hard once you got into the swing of it. It took a few hours to put together since I did it all by myself (yes it is possible, ladies!) and I was very happy with the results. Looks a lot more expensive than it is, although the only thing I would say is that it is darker than the pictures on the website. In actual fact, I think the color is a little more elegant than the brighter hue they advertise it to be on the pictures here. Overall, I think it is a big upgrade from what I had and I am very happy with my purchase! :-)

    Nice But With Minor Flaws

I really wanted to give this a 5 star, but it has some flaws that need to be considered if you want all your electronics other than the TV below the table top. I should have looked at closely at the design, so it’s partly my fault. Firstly, if you want to put your receiver under one of the open shelves, the depth of your receiver may not fit. So you may have to put it on top of the stand. To overcome this, I had to create a hole using a saw at the back wall of the stand, so the receiver is partly sticking out at the back. No biggie since you can’t see back there. Next, having a cable box, game console, Blu-Ray player and a power filter, I had more electronics to fit under the shelves. As you can see there are only 3 spaces. The middle space is already taken by my receiver so I’m down to two. To make more shelf space, I had to build it myself. You need some woodworking skills for this. Luckily, Home Depot had matching color shelving. After some modification, the TV stand is now perfect for my media system.

    Great Furniture for the Price

Will this thing last me for 10 years... probably not. But for $125 I think a life span of 5 years would be well worth it. Unless you touch it you wouldn't know it's not real wood. Putting it together can take a little bit, but it's a solid construction. So you shouldn't mind taking more time to put it together if the process means its going to be a lot sturdier and hold up longer. I have a 60 inch TV and there is sitll about 12 inches on each side of the screen to the edge of the stand. So theoretically you'd have to have an 80 inch for it to look too small for the TV. Storage is great and fits cable box and blu ray player well.

    • When you zoom in are you sure you are not looking at the walnut color? The walnut is a darker brown.

I have at least one component that is 2"-3" too deep. Instead of cutting to accommodate that piece I am thinking of just keeping the back off and let that component stick out the back. Will this make the unit look odd?
    by swardraws 12/2/2013
    • Not only will it look "odd", but it would definitely be stupid. The unit won't balance right, and your stuff will fall forward. The back panel of this unit is designed to also be the rear "leg".

    • The back piece is critical to the structure of the unit, binding together all the other pieces. It's not something that you can omit. It is made of particle board about 1/2" thick - not something that can be super easily cut up either, especially after construction.

    • The back piece is what bears most of the load. It won't stand up without it. My receiver is too deep also. I have it hanging off of the front. Doesn't look great though.
      by YvesV9/23/2014

    • Odd only from the standpoint of it falling apart... the back is an integral part of the assembly. Short of a small hole or two for wires, I would not do much to the back. It more than anything else, holds everything together. It's a disappointing design from your standpoint. BTW, I suffer from the same problem.

    • The back piece is essential...it supports all the other pieces and is what takes most of the weight of whatever you put on top.

    • The way that this is designed you would have to make some modifications to it to get it to be sturdy without the back piece. The interior drawer piece screws to the back plate because the legs for the drawers are only on the front half. The back plate is what provides the elevation that rear legs would normally do. I would rather cut holes out of the back plate rather than do the modifications to have a TV stand without it. If you had the TV stand in your house and knew how it goes together, I think you'd arrive at the same conclusion.

    • The rear panel acts as a major support piece, the unit may be somewhat wobbly without it.

    • I would venture to say that without the back piece the unit would not be stable. Go ahead and cut out ports to maintain integrity of the unit.

    • It would look ok but the stand wouldn't be as sturdy because the drawers and sides screw into the back. My HD DVR is also too big to fit in there so I just had to put it on top instead. It would be nice if the space was deeper or had spaces cut out already.

    • No I don't think so but you will be able to see all of your cables behind the stand.
