Ozark Trail 16' x 9.5' Family Dome Tent 3.9 5 208 214
Excellent tent/ Great value This tent is very big. We usually have a full and queen mattress inside with a medium dog kennel and still have room to walk and stand up. We have used this tent in the mountains with all day and night rains with strong winds and have never gotten wet inside. Perhaps the other reviewer did not have to canopy on correctly. It has elastic sides that completely seal the top when put on correctly. Rain flaps seal the zipper as well. Would definitely recommend to family or friends. Great tent for the money. Have owned many Ozark Trail products in the past and have never been disappointed. 05/06/2009
Good Tent I purchased this tent over a year ago, and have used it many times since then, camping all over the west. I have used this tent in CA, NV, UT, WY, and MT, and have generally been pleased with it.The size and layout of the tent are good, with room for six people to sleep easily (three on either side of the door) with pads and sleeping bags. It could sleep more this way, but it would be crowded. I use it for myself and two kids, and each of us was using a twin size air mattress the last few times we used it. Two were on one side of the tent, with one on the other. We had plenty of room for our gear, and the cubby/closet at the back made a nice place to put bags out of the way.I have done nothing to waterproof the tent, and have been through several summer thunderstorms, and the only water that got into the tent was from the shoes of people entering the tent. The only problem I've had with the tent so far, was that in Wyoming last year, the tent was knocked down by a strong wind storm. Two of the main poles snapped just above the level of the top of the door opening, and they punctured the tubes that keep them in place. One of them even punctured the rain fly. A little duct tape on the rain fly, and a couple of repair poles were used, and the tent is almost as good as new. The tubes are still ripped, so care is needed when inserting the poles, but everything still works well. One reviewer mentioned removing the pole from the vestibule when it's raining. This tent does not have a vestibule, unless you count the cubby or closet on the back. Removing this pole will do nothing for keeping the rain out. I suspect he (she?) meant to remove the pole from the rainfly, which is also not a good idea, because it helps keep the water from dripping down the front door of the tent. Here's another point to keep in mind. Don't forget to remove the pole from the cubby/closet before you take the tent down. I've forgotten it once or twice, and it's a pain to have to climb inside when the tent has already been taken down.Overall, for what it is, this tent is a good value. I have not tried to use it during any season other than summer, nor would I recommend doing so unless those seasons are mild where you are. It is a lightweight tent, but that makes it easy to transport, set up, and take down. 08/14/2009
Space in the wilderness Just bought the "family dome tent" for a weekend campout in the Colo Rockies, primarily for the stated space and headroom. No disapointment there, I'm 6'3" and had an area to stretch up in. With one queen air mattress on one side we had room for a chair or two, all of our coolers and bags plus space left over on the other side. The rear "porch" was quite handy for heavy boots and nighttime cold weather gear, too. Having read the reviews concerning possible water leakage, I went ahead and bought a can of waterproofing spray, and after errecting the tent I sprayed it as best I could. (Un)forrtunately we experienced only a few sprinkles, so I cannot yet speak for it's watertightness. Remember that this is a summer class tent, as the roof is mostly light screen and the rain fly plays an integral part in keeping everything dry. As such, it does not do much of a job in keeping any heat in or out. What it seemed to be very good at was wind resistance, as we had stiff and steady breezes, but the tent always seemed to be in a calm, never flapping or shaking about. Must be some great aerodynamics! Assembly was pretty straight forward too, once we discovered the instructions sewn in the inside of the carry case! We actually got most of the zipper on the case closed again once we packed away, as well. No small feat. For space, convenience and value I have no qualms reccomending this one! 06/11/2009
Ozark Tent I purchased the Ozark Trail Tent this spring for an upcoming camping trip to Mohican State Park with my friends. The tent was easy to set up, only taking about 30 minutes. It has a lot of room in it and the center height of 6' was more than enough for me to stand in. The side windows allowed plenty of airflow during the day to keep the tent from being to hot. It night, the rain guard and the window guards kept the tent dry. Although it didn't rain, just a minute amount of dew seeped into the tent. For the size, value, and effectiveness, i would recommend this tent for the novice camper. 06/15/2009
