Dear Friend,

May I share a story that is very dear to my heart?

It's a story of hillbillies and simple folk, net casters and tax collectors. A story of a movement that exploded like a just-opened fire hydrant out of Jerusalem and spilled into the ends of the earth: into the streets of Paris, the districts of Rome, and the ports of Athens, Istanbul, Shanghai, and Buenos Aires. A story so mighty, controversial, head spinning, and life changing that two millennia later we wonder:

Might it happen again?

Heaven knows we hope so. These are devastating times: 1.75 billions people are desperately poor; one billion are hungry. Lonely hearts indwell our neighborhoods and attend our schools. In the midst of it all, here we stand: you, me, and our one-of-a-kind lives. We are given a choice ... an opportunity to make a big difference during a difficult time. What if we did? What if we rocked the world with hope?

Worth a try, don't you think?

Reviews

Review by Library Journal (2010-07-01)

Lucado (minister of preaching, Oak Hills Church, San Antonio; Fearless), one of the most popular and acclaimed preachers and religious writers in America, adds to his long list of works on the Christian faith an innovatively shaped illumination of the Book of Acts, that sequel to the Gospel of Luke. Acts, when it is read at all, is nowadays treated almost as a weak history of the disciples and apostles after the Resurrection and before the foundation of the Roman church, but Lucado sees it as an impetus to Christian action, especially on behalf of the world's poor.

Verdict: Lucado's book revives the Social Gospel movement through an engaging re-reading of Acts; it would be a shame if it did not recharge the preachers and believers to whom it is addressed.

Rated 5 out of 5★by Challenging and Encouraging You only get one, and yours is the only one like it. At the end of your life, what will you have to show for it? In Outlive Your Life, Lucado challenges us to step out from our comfortable shell of a life and live a lifestyle that will impact our world beyond what we could ever imagine. He takes us through a tour of the book of Acts, giving examples in each chapter of another one of God’s faithful who lived in a way that changed the course of history, and calling us to do the same. The overall message of the book is one that American Christians need to hear. It resonated strongly in my heart, and challenged me to my core. Can I recognize the needs of others? Do I act on them? Do I have biases against certain groups of people? At the same time, I felt both convicted and encouraged by the examples Max gives of real people who are making a difference. My only criticism is that while Max’s story telling style works great for modern stories, it seemed to detract from the biblical accounts he recreated.Publisher's product page: http://www.thomasnelson.com/consumer/product_detail.asp?sku=0849920698&title=Outlive_Your_Life&author=Max_Lucado 10/07/2010
Rated 5 out of 5★by Max Lucado Max Lucado did a fabulous job writing the book Outlive Your Life – as he does in all of his books. I really enjoyed the format of his book in that each chapter begins with a bible verse and a prayer relevant to the contents of the chapter. Lucado did a great job helping the author relate to the content of his material by depicting real life stories which were exciting and easy to follow. Also, the cover picture of the book as well as the picture located on the back display the book’s content in a very clever and creative way – displaying a young boy, carefree but confident on the beach (the cover) and that same boy still confident and living his life by running on the shoreline of the beach on the back side. This is a book I will highly recommend to others and feel honored I was able to read this myself. 03/14/2011

Rated 5 out of 5★by Great Read Outlive Your Life is a call to all Christians to put their faith in action. We all want to leave a legacy on this Earth. It is what we’ve been called to do, and Jesus commissioned all believers to show His love and compassion in reaching the lost. Lucado shows applications of Scriptural principles as he walks through the Book of Acts and how examples of the early church can still be lived out today.Lucado challenges followers of Christ to be compassionate, live for others, open your heart, and stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves. As we remember who we are in Christ, we’ll want to leave His legacy for others to experience.I really needed the truth I found in this book. I often struggle with generosity, and as I grow in my faith, I’m learning every day how the only way to lose the grip I have on my money is give it away. Generosity is the antidote to greed, and through the examples Lucado shares, I can’t wait to start the journey to help others, so that my life will have made a difference long after I’m gone. 12/01/2010
Rated 5 out of 5 Are you outliving your life? Title: Out Live Your Life: You were made to make a differenceAuthor: Max LucadoIn Out Live Your Life, Max Lucado is challenging the reader to think about what people are going to remember about your life when you are gone. Were you living for yourself or striving to follow God and live for him? Are you doing things that will make a mark on society or other people once you are gone? This is the first Max Lucado book I have read. I enjoyed it and will probably be reading some of his other books now. It is well written and easy to follow and read. Max Lucado uses stories of many different people and the things they did in their lives to make a difference to inspire the reader to look at their life and evaluate if they are going to be remembered as someone who made a difference. He shows us how God has used just ordinary people to accomplish great things in the past. The concepts he shows us in this book should be nothing new to a true Christian, but can remind us of how we should be living. We need these reminders once in a while as we are all still sinners and our lives tend to get in the way of Gods will sometimes. We just need to remember that we are not doing good to be seen and remembered, but as a response for what God has done for us. Out Live Your Life serves as a reminder of how we should be living.I loved reading this book and would recommend it to anyone who wants to be inspired to live a life worth remembering.Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze.com <http://BookSneeze.com> book review bloggers program.
