I was skeptical regarding the purchase of this product. If you love your pet, I recommend you purchase this product. The product functions perfectly and it takes Four-AA batteries not six as posted by some online. I do not find this device excessively noisy. It is not much louder than my Phillips Sonicare toothbrush operating on speed one, speed two, is a bit louder and probably not even needed for a small dog. My Chihuahua accepted the use of the gentle paws nail trimmer with very little acclimation time. In no time, at all, she went from a pet that would fight any nail maintenance to acceptance of the gentle paws use and falling asleep while using the gentle paws. That is factual-information. I tried the grinding stone first and I recommend that for a newbie too. Get a feel for the product and then switch to the 80-grit sanding disc; it is much more aggressive. The stone is a fine grit that I estimate at around 220-grit by comparison, perhaps it is even 320-grit. It is for cleaning up any burs you leave with the 80-grit disc. You will find that when you increase your expertise with the device that you can lightly sand with the 80-grit and probably really do not require the use of the stone to fine tune. We do use the stone on her front paws because she likes to grab our faces with her front paws when she is kissing us (aka licking our face). *Under No Circumstance, Would I Recommend Using The 36-Grit Sanding Disc. It Is Far Too Aggressive For A Pets Nails, Especially A Small Dog. We are able to use no. 2, 3 and 4 holes and she has large, for a Chihuahua, diameter nails. The guard is designed to keep the inexperienced user from grinding down to the quick and it works perfectly. I Do Not recommend using the device without the guard, as some online reviewers have stated, even when you become experienced. Use Of This Device, Without The Guard, Is Asking For Trouble, for you and your pet. If you are pushing against the stone so hard that you stop the device from turning you are attempting to remove too much material at one time, remove the stone and try the 80-grit disc. Apply gentle pressure, holding the device so that you can see through the end will permit you to observe more clearly, when the nail is in contact with the sanding surface. I noticed that with a little use the nail dust conceals the side view of the stone or sanding disc; however, if you use the device so that you can view the nail through the end of guard you can see clear as day. Remember this guard is plastic so do not use your finger or a tissue to wipe out the guard. Use air to blow it out, i.e. canned air or if you have an air compressor use a blowgun. Roll the nail back and forth in a rounding fashion not just straight down and you will achieve a more natural appearance. I read one online review that stated a few seconds on one nail then one to the next and so forth and so on. I reiterate that advice, you are not going to remove years of poor nail maintenance in one sitting. Please remember, your pet loves you, trusts you and only wants to please you. Do Not Hurt Your Pet. Be a caring, gentle and loving pet owner.

As it says on the box, insert 4 AA batteries and you are ready to go. Four batteries. Works great. You can use Dremel grinding stones when the included one wears out. Only took a couple of minutes for the dog to get used to it.

I have a dog that had to be restained or sedated so the vet could trim his nails. We used this tool on the very same dog and he cried out for a minute but soon realized that he was not being harmed and now can trim his nails in an easy manner. What a relief it is that now I can trim all my dogs nails without having to take them to the vet or a groomer. The only problem with the tool is that the drum that holds the sand paper is not tight enough and can not be tighten it up. Other than that it is a G-d send!!!

I want to buy a grinder, but would like to know how this nail grinder works. Is it rechargeable, battery operated, or does it have a cord? Model # 078129-500-00, Wal-Mart # 000870411, UPC # 0003426443834. Thank you.

  • A. It uses 4 AA batteries, but doesn't appear to eat through them. My suggestion would be to invest in rechargeable batteries to use for it.

  • A. It takes 6 AA batteries that you must purchase. It is not rechargeable. I have no idea how it works because the one I purchased is defective right out of the box.
