My skillet has uneven heating -- don't know if they all do. After about 2 weeks of use, we began to have food sticking around the element in about 1/3 of the pan, and it has continued to stick in more of the pan. That doesn't usually happen with the standard non-stick skillets until after months of use. Apparently it is not immersible even though the only place that tells you that is under "Remove the temperature control probe" in the Care and Cleaning Section. Then it tells you not to immerse the temperature control probe or skillet in liquids. Nothing else mentions that! It does say that it is not dishwasher safe. I'm sure I wouldn't have bought the skillet at all if I knew it wasn't immersible. After going back and looking at the box and paperwork, all the pictures just show it being wiped out. Once food starts sticking, it is very difficult to clean, and since it is a light color, everything shows. I'm thinking I will be replacing this very soon with something else.

My husband and I use an electric skillet everyday. We cook healthy meals from scratch and do a lot of reheating with a tabletop skillet because we do not own a microwave, and the electric skillets heat fast and are usually a breeze to clean. My husband even travels with a Presto non stick skillet. I picked this up because I thought the "non flake" coating would be great. My last skillet peeled after just a few months. Oster is a big brand and this looked sturdy. After 2 weeks of use I can tell you it heats very inefficiently. The edges around the element would get too hot and burn food quickly. I even tried lowering the temps under the recommended settings. Everything started to stick every time. I tried using oils to pre-coat, but it still burned. Also, the light colored coating stains almost immediately. I cleaned it according to manufacturer directions with baking soda. It removed the burned food but still stained. Lastly, it began randomly cutting off. Food would go cold, and quit cooking, only to come back on and burn later. Got my money back and went back to $19 Presto, which is superior.

This product is a prime example of "You get what you pay for". At this price the quality performance of the product is as should be expected. I have only had this product for a couple of months, however I used it almost every day. I was very careful to use the proper plastic utensils when cooking so that I would not damage the ceramic coating. At first is was just great, but as time went on the circular heating element under the bottom of the skillet began to visibly burn the ceramic coating causing EVERYTHING to stick to the pan. And I do mean STICK. It does not matter how low the temperature is or how much cooking oil you use. It still STICKS to the point where after cooking my food I had to pour water in the skillet to soak the burnt on food off so that I could clean the product more easily. I do plan to return this product back to Walmart.

Oster - Great brand - Not so great skillet

I received the DuraCeramic Skillet as a gift from my boyfriend for Christmas. This was our first Christmas buying gifts for each other and he said he was worried about the gift for me because I am a hard read but knew I cooked and hoped I would like it. I assured him that Oster is a great brand, I grew up with the brand as a kid and own several other appliances which have stood the test of time. The skillet was to be a great addition to my collection since I didn't have one. We envisioned all the meals that we would be able to expedite cooking for our blended family of 7. Unfortunately after the second use the ceramic started to burn with a ring in the middle of it. The burn stain has not come out and food started sticking to it after a couple of subsequent uses. I must say I am disappointed in this skillet as Oster has always had a great reputation for appliances in my family. I am not sure if there was a quality issue with a certain batch of these skillets or if this particular model exhibits this issue for everyone but I am rethinking my loyalty to the Oster brand if this is the current quality they are selling.

This is by far one of the greatest things that has become a part of my kitchen. Large enough to cook an entire meal with less fat that most pots and pans require and this also leads to less clean up. It is large enough to accommodate many different protein types and have room for the veggies. Very stylish so that it will fit into most of today's kitchens. Very easy to use, heats fast and evenly and produces great results. Great non-stick surface and is very durable. It will not scratch as easy and most cookware today. NO batteries to buy, just plug it in, heat it up and cook away. A large size glass lid lets you see the beautiful food as it is cooking. I do recommend this product for many people. It is amazing. I became aware of this product after receiving it as a sample to try and give my opinions on. These opinions are mine and I express them with honest judgement after seeing the results myself. Even my college age son loves this product.

Well, it's been several years since I've used an electric skillet and I am very pleased and amazed at this one. First of all, it's BIG! At first I wondered where I would keep it, but that problem was solved the more I used it. I keep it on my counter! I use it in the morning for fried eggs on toast (or pancakes, if I'm really hungry). Because the coating is a Duraceramic, a quick wiping it up with paper towels followed by a damp cloth is all that's needed and it's ready for toasted cheese sandwich at lunchtime. Another quick clean-up and it's for a skillet dinner! I threw away all my Teflon cookware when I found out how unhealthy Teflon is and I saw how the Teflon coating would flake off into the food. That won't happen with this coating! I am still surprised as to how fast the temperature adjusts. I have an electric range and there is always the "hangover" heat after I turn the burner off. There is NO "hangover heat" with this skillet! Once I turn the temp control down, the food immediately stops boiling/cooking. All in all, I am very pleased with this skillet. I received this item free in exchange for my honest opinion.

I had my doubts about then when I received it. I found it odd I had to put the "legs" on it to stand but it was a very easy process. I need several batches of fajitas using this pan with different types of vegatables. It cooked very evenly and very quickly. The temperature was easy to control. I was able to leave it on warm and while I was eating dinner I would periodically hear it sizzle so that I knew that it was heating back up to warm my food. I was concerned about the food sticking to the pan and turning the white bottom very dark and black almost as of charcoaled. I was worried that this would be very difficult to clean but when I actually went to clean it it just wiped right out with a little bit of a wet rag. I was very surprised with that. I believe the pan helps cook the food evenly and keeps it at the perfect temperature.

I bought this a month ago because of the ceramic interior. It was suppose to be able to use with metal utensils without scratching. Not only is this not true but it has hot spots that burn while the other areas are still cooking. The surface is hard to clean and have ended up using a scotch brite that is for glass cook tops. I am sorry that I bought this.

I can't comment on durability as I have only had this pan about 10 days and have used it twice. I was very pleased both times. It is much nicer than the teflon coating which I hate and it never lasts. I was careful not to overheat this pan and it doesn't need a lot of heat. Eggs slide right off and it is very easy to clean. Be sure to let it cool before cleaning.

I owned a Hamilton Beach griddle/skillet combo for years but in order to be healthier my husband purchased this skillet for me for Christmas. We have used it three times - the first was to make pancakes for Christmas morning, they all burned and were raw in the middle even after turning the temperature down from 320 to 270. The second time it was used was to make hamburgers which worked like a charm. The third was to make grilled cheese sandwiches only to have them all be burned again at 270. I noted in the manual NOT to preheat the skillet so we have not - maybe I am asking too much of this product?

    • A. while ceramic is durable, I think you would be pushing it to use metal utensils I would suggest teflon or nylon utensils so you don't scratch the surface. Make sure to let this skillet cool before soaking or washing it. after it cools you can soak the skillet, but I don't think you will ever have to. just wash it by hand using a nylon or teflon scrub pad if need. generally, just a good wash cloth will do the trick. do not get water on the control in any way.

    • A. I flipped completely through the manual. Believe it or not, this was not mentioned within the instructions, nor is it anywhere on the box. I would say "no", just to be on the safe side. Even if it doesn't peel, you could leave microscopic scratches, which could hold on to food and stain. It does state not to scour while cleaning, but to use mild detergent and soft cloth. For stains it recommends soft sponge with baking soda.
