I purchased this desk because I wanted both lateral workspace and a hutch for a low price - and it certainly delivers on those parameters. It fits very well into a corner of our small office, and does not crowd the room despite the presence of two bookshelves and another computer desk. I love the L-extension, upper shelf, and cabinet.
The caveats:
It was about a 4-hour project to put together mostly myself (needed help holding slabs together while I connected them about 3-4 times in the process), using the recommended tools. The directions do not always clearly state the necessary orientation of pieces, which required some extrapolation from the finished diagram. The worst aspect of building the desk was the pilot holes - or rather, lack thereof. Many of the screw points are marked, but the indentations are not helpful for starting the screws. I ended up using a nail to make my own small pilot holes to help get me started. This problem would be a non-issue with a power screwdriver, but I had only hand tools.
The finish on several pieces was chipped when I opened the package; I touched up missing black finish with a Sharpie and covered a few rough edges with electrical tape, but if you're looking for a perfect product, you're probably going to be disappointed. It's pretty hard to ship laminated pressboard without some damage.
The CD storage on the left side of the hutch may be a bit obsolete for many mp3 users at this point - I made better use of the space by leaving out the bottom set of CD holder rack and putting my left speaker there instead.
Finally, read the top review ("Nice Desk") for dimensions carefully - I didn't, and my large widescreen monitor doesn't quite fit (I have to turn it a bit) in the space provided. My huge tower, however, has plenty of room under the desk without getting in the way of my feet.
