No, it comes unassembled, but only requires a screw driver to put in 8 screws, and a hammer to nail the backing onto it.

It&#39;s definitely close to what black oak looks like - not purely black but has a hint of deep brown.

The height is adjustible and can hold many different size books, either standing or lying flat. Great product and easy to assemble !

The interior height is 31 1/8 inches; each shelf is 9/16 inches. I have mine setup to hold standard 3-ring binders on the bottom at 12 1/2 inches (although the bookcase depth is 9 1/2 inches the binders hang over the edge by 1 inch). The center shelf is 9 3/8 inches that will hold Xbox games, and the top shelf is 7 3/4 inches which holds regular sized novels.

You can set the two shelves in the middle to where you want them. They are adjustable.

The entire bookcase is laminated particle board.

It&#39;s particle board as answered by another customer, but it isn&#39;t like the other pieces. It&#39;s a foldable thin cardboard-like panel. When I first took it out, I thought that it was just a part of the packaging.

Heavy cardboard - front with wood pattern; back plain.

The back panel is actually just cardboard but, if you are standing it against a wall you don&#39;t have to use it.

I really dislike assemble-yourself furniture but these went together easily due to clear instructions. They are a very nice weight, attractive, sturdy. They do not use those weird locking screws that some AY furnniture has, just regular screws. I really, really like mine and wish I'd found them sooner because the ones I bought from another manufacturer were a nightmare to put together and have not held up well at all. These book cases are really nice!
