Compared it with Dr. office reading and it is very close, since every reading is going to be a point or two off. Even the Dr. was impressed. My upper arm is very big and the cuffs have to inflate so much it bruises and hurts very bad. So I did some homework and found this particular brand of a wrist cuff to be the most dependable and accurate. It was a little expensive for me but it truly was worth the money for just the peace of mind. As you can see in the photo, my pressure is a bit high but not near as high as it was.

I met the Omron series of blood pressure monitors in a doctors office. While I do not know if they used the series 7 which I purchased, the model they used was used exactly as I use the one I purchased. I had planned on checking its accuracy when I went to a doctor's appointment where that doctor's assistant uses the cuff, but I forgot to bring it. However the readings I have gotten are within what I would expect. This device is easy to use. Its put on your wrist, turn it on , you then move your wrist toward your heart. The device shows when you are close to your heart by changing the color of a light. The wrist device then inflates and gives a reading. It comes with both easy start instructions and a more comprehensive booklet. Note: Beware of other brands of wrist monitors. The first one I purchased was very inaccurate. I do not think it inflated nor did it have a heart sensor. Final advice is to use the on-line order with store pick up for best price.

I bought this BP unit because Consumer Report rated it to be very accurate and easy to use. I did find it to be a solid, well-made, easy to use and reported consistent results. Trouble is, on two occasions when I took the unit to my doctor's office, the nurse consistently got readings about 20% less then the Omron's readings taken at the same time I called Omron to see if I could somehow recalibrate it but was informed that the only way would be for me to mail it back to them, at my expense, and include $8 for them to mail it back to me. I don't think I need to tolerate that kind of customer service. Too bad because I think that I would have kept it if I could calibrate with the nurse's reading. Luckily I was able to return it to Walmart with any problems. Both my doctor's nurse and my sister-in-law (also a nurse) believed that wrist BP readings were not nearly as accurate as the traditional method, so I will be getting a CVS unit that was also rated highly by Consumer Reports.

I bought an Omron wrist blood pressure unit and it worked perfectly for two years; when it started reading too high, I returned the defective unit, BP652 for repair within the warranty period. It was returned to me, still broken. The unit was 2 years old (5 year warranty-- the reason I bought it). They indicated that the unit had consumer caused corrosion, and the warranty would not cover that. Nothing is visible, and the consumer representative said that it must be internal, when I called to complain. The unit has always been used in accordance to their instructions, never submerged in water, or abused. I live in Florida and frequently do not use a/c; however They indicate it can operate in up to 90% humidity and 140 degrees temp—both of which I can guarantee have never occurred in my house. Obviously there is a manufacturing defect if there was in fact any corrosion inside the unit. They should not advertise a 5 year warranty if they will honor it.

Omron 7 Series Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor

Customer review by beachguy

I've had the monitor about a week now and, so far, it has met or exceeded my expectations. It is very easy to wrap around the wrist--no problems with under inflation. My previous arm monitor was all but impossible to wrap around my arm by myself. More often than not, I got an error message for under inflation. Even when I got "valid" readings, I was never sure if they were legitimate---not the case with this wrist monitor. The indicator light tells you when your arm is level with your heart (blue light) or (orange light) too high or low---works great. The operation is very quiet. Readings are consistent, once you keep your arm level with your heart. I have not yet compared the readings to those taken in the doctor's office. So, I can not attest to the accuracy of the unit. However, the readings thus far seem to be in line with are in line with those I've taken over the years. Bottom line---I definitely recommend this unit as a home monitoring device.

  • A. Uses 2 AAA alkaline batteries. They include 2 with the unit. The specs say you get approximately 300 uses with 2 new alkaline batteries. You get a low-battery warning symbol when the batteries get low. Cannot plug in an ac adaptor, nor connect it to your computer.

  • A. Unit comes with and uses 2 AAA alkaline batteries. An AC adapter is not compatible but who would want to bother plugging in the unit anyway? The best part about the OMRON 7 Series is portability and simplicity. You will get approximately 300 readings with the batteries according to the specifications but I haven't proven this 300 readings per set of batteries, yet (I've made approximately 30 readings so far).
