Very cool but a power hog

I originally bought this fan for my summer camping trips. (About $22) With 100 plus degree days and 74 degree nights you need something to cool you off while sleeping in the tent. This fan fit the bill. It moves plenty of air and is definitely portable. The bad news is that it takes 8 D Cell batteries. That is right EIGHT batteries. Wow that is a lot. Running the fan on high really sucks the batteries but they will still last several hours definitely overnight. It is just not good for a multinight stay without recharging the batteries. Now since I am a tinkerer at heart I purchased a 7 amp hour 12 volt battery and a DC adapter and now have enough power to run the fan a VERY long time. I added to that a 5 watt solar panel and now can recharge the 12 volt battery or run the fan straight off of the solar panel (on low) during the day. O2 Cool makes a 5 inch fan (about $6) that only uses 2 D Cell batteries but is advertised to last 72 hours on low speed. That might be a better option for you. It won't put out as much wind, but it is not such a power hog. All in all a thumbs up from me and yes I have already recommended this to a friend.

Fan is nice and small. It does move a lot of air with the style of blades much better than the traditional larger fan blade style. Bonus with the accepted batteries although I have not had an occassion to use them yet. Overall a good buy.

I purchased this fan for my son who is currently serving in the Air Force in Afghanistan. I sent it to him and after one nights use, the AC portion of the fan stopped working. Luckily the battery side works, but since it takes 8 D cell batteries and will only run for 48 hours or so on them, it will get very expensive to operate. I don't recommend purchasing this fan.

Very good value I hope it lasts long I'll be using it as an attic fan and over driving it a bit too. This little guy pushes plenty of air, I did read it sucks down batteries but this is no application I am interested in I have it running on a solar panel, and am very pleased.
