EXCELLENT TIRES
10/9/2012

I drive a very light sports car that hadn't seen snow its first 5 years. I've always had top of the line tires on it but nothing made driving on Michigan's treacherous roads anything short of an absolute nightmare. My car just always hated snow. Until I came across these things. I got them online and had them shipped to the dealership I worked at and mounted and balanced them myself. The verdict: I fear nothing when the snow flies. They do have a little more road noise than your typical passenger tire but they had everything I was looking for. The non-directional tread let's you cross-rotate as you should every oil change, the snow/ice traction is phenominal, wet and dry are also remarkable. They hold up very well as I have about 20,000 miles on mine (including leaving them on through summer to test durability). I still have 90% tread. I haven't seen any noticeable loss of fuel economy. And they ride exquisitely smooth. What more could you ask of a snow tire than comfort, security and a not so big dent in the wallet? I've enthusiastically recommended them to everyone I know.

Great All Season Tires!

I ordered these tires online and had them shipped to Walmart for installation. I put them on the FRONT of my 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan (the drive wheels) and left the half- worn Goodyears on the back. I noticed right away that the traction was superb. I've driven in Wisconsin snow for many years, and even with the mediocre tires on the back, my van drives like a snowmobile through even the deeper snow of 6 - 8". It's been over two years and 25,000 miles and they have only worn down about 30% of their treadwear. I figure I'll get at least 30,000 more miles on them. In the summer, they are smooth and comfortable; just a tad more noisy than any regular summer tire. GREAT for winter! btw: I had to sign a silly waiver to have these tires put on the front... (some new law to sell more tires). Don't listen to what they try to tell you,,, You want your BEST tires on your DRIVE wheels (in my case on the front). In snow, you're going to get out of trouble a lot quicker if you can steer, and power your way through.

My Prius is unstoppable

I bought four of these for my 2006 Prius a couple months ago. They were working well but I was worried when we had 16" of snow the past few days. I did not attempts the drive in 16". I did go out the next day when the roads were slightly plowed and slick with ice and frozen snow and the temp w/ wind chill was -40. It handled amazingly well. I drove wisely (slow and steady) and hardly slipped around town. I was able to get going without slipping from a dead stop and handled turns that last year I was sliding on. My 98 contour with newer all season tires couldn't even get up our slope in our neighborhood and I'm saving to purchase 4 of these for that car as well. Had to quick stop once and was surprised at how the tires bit into the slush and snow to stop us. I've never owned snow tires so I can't compare them to Blizzaks or x-ice but I'm pleased with these at 25% less of the cost. I had enough to purchase the road hazard too!

Great winter tire

Bought these tires 2 years ago and have been running them during warmer weather also so I didn't have to buy more summer tires. The tread is still around 50% after about 20,000 miles! Good tire for the money also...everyone swears by the firestone blizzak, but these in my opinion are better. I remember gripping on some ice driving around town and not having a problem with acceleration or braking.

I have a 2 wheel drive small sedan with front-wheel drive. I've heard I just need snow tires on the front wheels. However, recently a friend said I should get all 4 tires. What's the best approach for treacherous snowy driving?
by Zobird 11/9/2013

  • A. Everything I have read on this subject says to get all 4. This is what I did and the main reason for all 4 tires is braking traction, which is phenomenal with these tires. I installed them on a 2005 Pontiac Vibe front wheel drive.

  • A. If you only drive in a straight line and don't apply the brakes, snow tires in the front only will do fine and they'll give you the traction you need to pull through the snow. But, if you plan on stopping or going around corners, you need snow tires all around. There's more to snow tires than getting through snow banks. Snows in front and regular in the rear can cause the back of your car to catch up to the front when cornering or stopping. If you only want to buy 2 snow tires, put them in the back. You won't have any better pulling power to get you through snow banks, but normal driving, cornering and stopping in snow will be safer. You should put snow tires all around and they should be the same model. If some are newer than others, put the ones with the best tread depth in the Rear.
