My Oster pitcher broke and the replacement is close to half the cost of this. I was never very happy with the crushed/snow ice feature. Will it replace my Osterizer? I still have a Little Oscar for small jobs like cracker crumbs for meatloaf, etc...
    by redtruckmomma
    • No if my experience is an example. You may be better off replacing the Oster Pitcher.

    • Holy Moly does the Ninja take care of ice. Like snow. Just make sure to pulse a few times as you proceed. It works well for me.

    • I would guess it could. We have been very happy with the blender part of this machine (and the chopper part) blends completely and seems quite powerful enough to handle ice. Although the instructions do say to put in 1 cup at a time. So far, the Ninja has outdone our blender that we had by a longshot! We don't have the blender anymore.

    • very unlikely as I have an Osterizer that easily out performs it.

    • If you get the one with six blades and the more powerful motor, it should do a wonderful job crushing the ice. I got the quad blade and it does a fairly good job Charlie

    • I own two blenders, one a very expensive gourmet brand sold in higher end stores, and yes the Ninja replaced them perfectly! However, let me remind you, the Ninja works best when you at least initially PULSE IT! Many of the respondents fail to do this and have experienced less than desired results! The blades are extremely fast, pulsing is a simple tap, not a hold. Once you get the knack, you'll never use that blender again, for anything!

    • The Ninja will easily puree enough for baby food. However, because the containers are not real glass, I would recommend that you store the the puree in other containers.

    • Yes. Easily, and smoothly. No lumps. It blends and purees beautifully. I made potato salad with it this morning, and while at it experimented with pureeing fresh, uncooked vegetables before cooking them. After cooking I will puree them again.

    • Yes! I make purees for my pastry baking--I steam the fruits and veggies gently and then process. As your baby gets bigger and can eat a few chunky things you just process less--I make a chunky veg. stew for my kids that are grown that they use as a meal with french bread or as a spread and it would be a geat baby food.

    • Yes, I feel it is a consistency smooth enough for baby food. I used a hand held grinder to make baby food for mine (15 years ago!) and this blender does a job as smooth as that grinder. The more liquid you add will tend to make the finished product even smoother.
