I purchased this as a Christmas gift for a newly married couple. Unfortunately, company lay-offs caused them to be hard up for cash just before Christmas. They requested cash gifts only. I abliged, to my good fortune. This appliance is AWESOME. Traditional blenders will be a thing of folklore once the patent on this thing runs out. It's the ONLY way to blend. I've seen double sets of blades on blenders before, but they seem to get recalled for safety reasons before they reach stores. Putting the motor on top was sheer GENIUS. It does everything it says and more. Two sets of VERY SHARP blades in a container without silly leaky seals in the bottom are the only way to go. THE SNOW THING IS TRUE. You can make snow cones in about 10 seconds. Frozen drinks in 20, with no chunks of ice remaining (my old blender, a top of the line Cuisinart, leaves large chunks of ice, even after a full minute...and gets so much air whipped into the mix that you have to open and stir repeatedly.) I had some leftover ham after Christmas. Normally, I make ham salad using my food processor. The Ninja did the same job faster and mixed everything much more evenly. Years from now when the patent runs out, EVERY MANUFACTURER WILL BE MAKING THEM.

I made a review, I believe on the 19th which i would like to erase but this site will not let me.You can not compare this item with the Magic Bullet as they did on the commercial. That being said, I love this product. It works faster and better than any blender and chopper on the market. The clean up is exactly the same as all of my similar appliances. since I bought this I will be getting rid or 3 appliances. thats 3 less appliances I have to stuff in my baking area which is full to the max.

I was very doubtful that this thing could really make snow but boy was I wrong. My wife and I love boba iced teas and lately have been making it ourselves. For the past few weeks have been shaving the ice manually with my moms old school ice shaver. This manual ice shaver needs you to put lots of muscle behind in order to get some shaved ice. Also you either had to spend some money to buy an ice block or you would need to make and store your owe ice block. Everyone listen, this machine makes SNOW!!! Not ice chips, not ice broken up into somewhat small pieces, the Ninja makes SNOW. Snow like the expensive ice shaving machines do. The Ninja is a snow making machine, even with the wedge shaped ice cubes which are the hardest to break apart to make snow. Thumbs up for this machine.

My Oster pitcher broke and the replacement is close to half the cost of this. I was never very happy with the crushed/snow ice feature. Will it replace my Osterizer? I still have a Little Oscar for small jobs like cracker crumbs for meatloaf, etc...
by redtruckmomma 6/8/2010
  • No if my experience is an example. You may be better off replacing the Oster Pitcher.

  • Holy Moly does the Ninja take care of ice. Like snow. Just make sure to pulse a few times as you proceed. It works well for me.

  • I would guess it could. We have been very happy with the blender part of this machine (and the chopper part)...it blends completely and seems quite powerful enough to handle ice. Although the instructions do say to put in 1 cup at a time. So far, the Ninja has outdone our blender that we had by a longshot! We don't have the blender anymore.

  • very unlikely as I have an Osterizer that easily out performs it.

  • If you get the one with six blades and the more powerful motor, it should do a wonderful job crushing the ice. I got the quad blade and it does a fairly good job Charlie

  • I own two blenders, one a very expensive gourmet brand sold in higher end stores, and yes the Ninja replaced them perfectly! However, let me remind you, the Ninja works best when you at least initially PULSE IT! Many of the respondents fail to do this and have experienced less than desired results! The blades are extremely fast, pulsing is a simple tap, not a hold. Once you get the knack, you'll never use that blender again, for anything!

  • The Ninja will easily puree enough for baby food. However, because the containers are not real glass, I would recommend that you store the the puree in other containers.

  • Yes. Easily, and smoothly. No lumps. It blends and purees beautifully. I made potato salad with it this morning, and while at it experimented with pureeing fresh, uncooked vegetables before cooking them. After cooking I will puree them again.

  • Yes! I make purees for my pastry baking--I steam the fruits and veggies gently and then process. As your baby gets bigger and can eat a few chunky things you just process less--I make a chunky veg. stew for my kids that are grown that they use as a meal with french bread or as a spread and it would be a geat baby food.

  • Yes, I feel it is a consistency smooth enough for baby food. I used a hand held grinder to make baby food for mine (15 years ago!) and this blender does a job as smooth as that grinder. The more liquid you add will tend to make the finished product even smoother.
