The Nikon Nikkor 70-300mm Telephoto Zoom Lens with VR image Stabilization approximates the picture angle performance of a 105-450mm lens on a 35mm SLR. Two Nikon Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements deliver superior optical performance. Vibration Reduction (VRII) minimizes the effects of camera shake so you can shoot handheld at as many as four shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible. Internal Focus (IF) in this camera equipment provides fast and quiet auto focusing without changing the length of the lens. A Silent Wave Motor (SWM) enables the Nikon Nikkor 70-300mm Telephoto Zoom Lens to have fast and quiet auto focusing, along with quick switching between auto focus and manual operation.

VG, not perfect I bought this as a long lens compliment to my 16-85 VR and was immediately disappointed. The 16-85 was so good I expected the same overall performance. As I've used it more, it's grown on me and it is an excellent lens, but you need to understand it's limitations. It needs a lot of light and isn't at it's best at 300mm. On the other hand it's amazingly compact and can deliver wonderful results without a pack mule. It won't replace the super telephotos for birds, but then it's a fraction of the cost and size too. 07/22/2010
Very good carry-around lens I often shoot with this lens on my D3S and find it works extremely well. The trade-off is a little slower f/stop than the f/2.8 version, but the lighter weight and VRII more than makes up for most shooting conditions. The auto focus is relatively fast. At the short end of 70mm, I would like the minimum focus distance to be a little shorter, but for close up work, I use a mid-range zoom. 07/20/2010
Great outdoor lens for this price range. This lens has a great range and good for outdoor sports and general photography. It lacks the speed of a F2.8 and therefore not recommended in low light or indoor. It makes up in overall weight and size.The VR works great and I have actually made several tests ...It works !Recommend: Tripod or Monopod for greatest sharpness between 200-300mm on action shots.Alternative: 70-200 -2.8 at x5 the cost....Nikon body: D80, D5000.Next body: 700. 07/14/2010
