  • A. Yes you can! There is one that walmart sells http://www.walmart.com/ip/DigiPower-Nikon-EN-EL12-Battery/14668665 . If you are under the One year warranty though I would recommend buying one that is actually made by Nikon. Otherwise it voids the warranty.

  • A. The camera doesn't come with a separate charger. You plug the cord into the camera and an adapter into the wall to recharge. It's a little inconvenient but the battery lasts a long time. Lots of batteries and chargers are available on Ebay, total price around $25.

what are the differences in the 2?
by pocodjoe 11/28/2010
5 answers
  • A. In addition to the more technical differences mentioned in the other excellent answers, the 8100 is simply easier to handle. There is a tiny ledge next to the flash - just a little place to place your finger while shooting a picture - just a bit more than on the 8000 (which has no space, one of my biggest complaints about the 8000). It's a small but big difference. I also like the on/off switch better. We have both cameras - just got the 8100 yesterday, and, so far, it seems great. The gold color - which I was worried about - is soft and pretty.

  • A. I wondered that too. I think the S8100 is just an updated version. It is 12 megapixels and I think the 8000 might be 14. The reviews I read rated the S8100 as a better camera. I'm very pleased with the S8100.

  • A. The S8100 has the CMOS sensor (vs. CCD) which produces higher quality photos & videos and is faster. It also records full HD movies (1080 @ 3ofps vs. 720). When Macro shooting, you can get twice as close with the S8100.

  • A. Pretty much the only difference is the video capability! The 8000 has 720p and the 8100 has 1080p. Remember that these are point and shoot cameras and not video recorders. You will not see much difference if any at all! I just ordered the 8000 for my wife. A great little camera! Hope this helps!

I previously owned a cheap Kodak camera with terrible quality, and decided it was time for a new one. I was a little unsure about switching brands, since I have always owned Kodak cameras, but I'm glad I did. It takes excellent quality pictures, no doubt about that. The videos are also very good quality, although one thing I do not like about the videos is that they take up A LOT of space. If you have a small memory card, I would advise you not to take much video unless you plan on uploading to your computer. But, other than that, I love it!

This camera is easy to use and takes great photos. The only down side is in bright sunlight I has a lot of glare and whited out areas. I was able to correct this by lowering the brightness setting. Over all a great camera.

I love this thing to death! I am planning on buying a second one to have! I made this purchase based on comparing photos taken with it by people on flickr.com . This one was the best when it came to colour, especially at night and indoors! That is very important to me as I sell my artwork online and run a blog. The video quality is very smooth. The macro setting is very very good! All the photos I have printed in Walmart to a 20x30 size turn out amazing! I recommend this camera to everyone! Even beginners!

I like the feature set and the big LCD. Photos taken in daylight are usually good although shots taken with a Canon and a Casio are focused more reliably. Low light images are bright but often out of focus. Video is very good in bright light but focus and exposure are the worst that I have seen in any camera when the light is dim. I will be returning this, my second, dS8100, back unless Nikon soon releases a firmware fix for the focus and exposure problems.

This camera does all the things it was purchased for. I do wish the focus were faster at times. There were a few instances where the exposure control would get moved between shots (operator error). The focus in HD movie mode could be a bit faster but that might be just getting used to using this mode.

I love taking pictures and was in need of a new camera. This was the 3rd camera I tried before being completely satisfied. It has the newest CMOS sensor; the photo and video quality are fantastic--even in low light. There are so many great features and it's truly a point and shoot camera on the AUTO setting. The 10x zoom is very good, too. It records in stereo and with the memory card I purchased, I can record up to 2 hours of HD video. The best memory card to use with this camera is an SDHC Class 10. These are hard to find, but work great. A nice feature is that you can begin recording from any setting you have your camera on, just by pushing the record button and zoom while recording. The only thing I don't like about the camera is the location of the flash. Keeping my finger off the top left side of the camera is going to take some getting used to. I anticipate years of service from this camera.

Best Action Pictures in a Point N' Shoot Camera
7/21/2011

Customer review by HappyMamaAtHome

I specifically bought this camera for taking action pictures. Flying down the road in Colorado at 65 mph, I shot a picture out the open window of the scenery - mountains in the distance and tall pine trees just off the edge of the road. Picture turned out as if I was standing on the side of the road! Now that's what I'm talking about...I'm confident this little camera will shoot my son's martial arts moves without blurring, my daughter's horseback riding pictures, and everything else in between. Only downside is the flash is in an awkward position - I kept putting my hand on it to hold the camera, but after I got used to it, I just held the camera differently. I'll admit the recall time between pictures is a bit of a delay, but I did not even look for the sport setting or any other options yet, so I expect there is deliverance from that issue. Overall, for the price, I'm really happy :)

I was looking for a camera that can take decent pictures and at the same time was able to record small movie clips too so that I don’t have to carry a camcorder and DSLR during long road trips and so far with couple of weeks experiment it looks like this product is made for people like me!! I have Nikon DSLR D60 and little bit worried, whether after getting used to DSLR quality photos weather I will find photos from this camera good enough, however I found the Photo quality was good enough for me and the videos also were good.
