I've got an older Nikon Coolpix P5000. Other than the fact that it no longer works due to an internal issue where the optical viewfinder has become uncoupled from the zoom, the shutter lag is intolerable! Has this been fixed on this P7000 unit?

    • A. I have a Nikon D50 and compare all to it. Does have lag time.

    • A. I did not observe any shutter lag but you do need to make sure that the camera's firmware is updated. To do that you can go to Nikon's website and make sure the firmware in the camera is the most up-to-date as compared to Nikon's website. There may even be a firmware update for your P5000.

    • A. Shutter lag seems minimal but it's important to make sure you have upgraded the firmware to v 1.1. Also, I am assuming that you already understand that you should depress the shutter halfway down to get the camera ready with focus and exposure settings ... then push down the rest of the way to take the shot exactly When you want.

    • A. I am not familiar with the P5000 therefore I am not familiar with its speed or lack thereof. When I set the P7000 to continuous single frame with the flash off it seems to take pictures pretty quick. There is a 16 frame shot where you get 16 frames in about 1 second. I hope this answers your question.

    • A. Shutter speed with full autofocus is reported to be .202 - 0.228 sec which is very good. Processing of Raw files was very slow before firmware update. Menus are regarded as being slow.

    • A. Of course it comes with a battery but i have not researched the price for extra batteries yet. A 16GB memory card cost $57 at Best Buy and is enough for over 6K pictures.

    • A. The battery is included. Additional batteries don't seem to be available on the Walmart site but they are available in many places online from $29 to $35. Memory card prices depend on size and speed. I would recommend 100X speed tthat will really speed up the time it takes to save your shots. Try 4GB to start if you are going to shoot in RAW mode. 4GB will get you about 220 pictures shooting in RAW mode.

    • A. It comes with a battery. Depending on where you buy it and whether you want a Nikon branded battery, batteries can be had for as little as twenty-seven dollars.

    • A. Hi, The Camera does come with a battery. It takes about 1 hour to charge and that is good for over 500 pictures. We charged the battery as per instructions. I know you can get extra batteries. But, I do not know about the price. You will want to get and HD/HC card they run around $25.00

    • A. Yes this camera comes with it's own battery. Don't know how much extra batteries are, I haven't had to purchase one yet. The memory cards are around $50 to $100 dollars. It takes an SD memory card which I already had for my HP camera before this one. I am sure you can purchase them both online. My camera came from walmart.com so should the battery and memory card.

    Amazing Small Camera

I'm a professional Photographer and I'm always looking for a great small camera to keep with me at all times. While this isn't exactly "Shirt Pocket Portable" it has a lot of features that I need to capture shots I might want to sell. First and foremost is the fact that it shoots RAW (NRW). Secondly it has an optical viewfinder. Third, it has just about all the camera controls that a DSLR has. And finally, the lens is really great for something that retracts and goes back into a jacket pocket. One note: The first thing you want to do is update the firmware to v 1.1 if it has not been done already. Mine arrived with v 1.0. It's easy and fast to update. Also, my "Value" rating was based on the very excellent price offered by Walmart.

This is a better than average point and shoot for the person who needs more than a simple camera. It is not up to DSLR quality but no point and shoot is. I have used Nikon gear since the 70's so i know cameras, this is better than previous nikon compacts, but still not what it could be. Overall i have to call this a good fun or casual snapshooter and not for serious work. Larger than 8x12 prints go down hill fast, but i do not do that much anyhow.

Nikon P7000 is the ultimate compact camera. Pictures are fantastic has several different settings so you can control low light situations. The zoom feature is very accurate it has allowed my wife to get very good close-ups of birds and our pets. Our children are annoyed at the speed of the off to on position as it very fast and that allows us to take real life pictures of our family. We had a difficult time deciding as we were comparing this camera to Canon's Rebel and the Nikon D3000 (which does not do video), Nikon D3100 (does do video) and Canon's T-1 and T-2. Coolpix software is far better than our other camera.

I've owned the P7000 since the second week they hit the market. I'm pleased with Nikon's attention to customer input in regards to the P7000. I've taken a survey and am writing this review. In the beginning, the P7000 had a few bugs that most of us griped about. I'm happy to say that with the firmware update that came out recently, the vast majority of my issues with this camera are gone. What remains? The rotary dial menu system isn't as fast to pop up when summoned. I'd like to see that speed increased. Additionally, the autofocus can sometimes search for longer periods of time than you'd prefer. If they could fix these issues, I'd have nothing to gripe about in the future. The strong points are these: I like the 28-200 focal length. This was the reason I bought the camera. As a hiker, I wanted 200mm and a sturdy platform from which to shoot. The P7000 is that camera. It's rugged and has very good picture quality. You'll find the ISO performance is great up to 400 and is acceptable at 800 with only a light softening of the image. The ISO has individual settings or range settings of 100-800, 100-200 and 100-400. I choose to leave mine on the 100-400 setting and I've been very pleased. I've noticed that at ISO's above 800, you'll find the noise levels to be too high. This isn't uncommon with cameras with processors that are this size. The HD Video works great and the camera is comfortable to carry around. I think it is the best in class in regards to picture quality. If you can handle the two gripes I had above, you're going to love this little camera.
