    About this item

Get connected to high-speed Internet instantaneously and effortlessly with the NETGEAR N300 Wireless Router. It's compatible with both older Wireless-G devices, as well as the new Wireless-N devices. The patented Push 'n' Connection feature on this high-speed internet router uses Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) technology to make online communication safe and secure. The PIN and SSID are randomly generated by the Push 'n' Connect router, and are difficult to decode. This NETGEAR wireless router features five Ethernet ports, including one WAN and four LAN. This allows you to connect up to four devices such as your PC, gaming console and iPad simultaneously. The live parental control lets you personalize the filter setting and block inappropriate applications and websites for children. The NETGEAR N300 Wireless Router comes with a broadband usage meter that generates customized reports, so you can keep track of your usage.

These reviews help me a lot, so I thought I'd mention this one point... It does not appear to be listed in the features here on the Walmart website, but this router allows you to set up a second "Guest" SSID/network with "internet-only" access. This is a great feature to have when you have guests or relatives (or your kid's friends over) at your house, and you don't want them to have access to your all your network files. Both accounts can have different security settings, different passwords, and different broadcast SSID settings (you can make the guest one visible for simplicity of your guests, and not broadcast your main network ID). You don't have to use "guest" as a name, you can change it to whatever name you want. I almost bought a more expensive router by Belkin that advertised this feature, but the reviews on that one were so poor, I decided to buy this router, and I was pleasantly surprised to find this router did the same thing! I hope that helps someone make their decision.

I bought this router today so I could use my new Acer Aspire One netbook. The price was a little higher than I wanted to pay but the setup was extremely easy. The directions were easy to understand and I had everything set up and was online in 10 minutes. Well recommended!

I want to buy this router but not if i have to buy a wireless adapter with it to make it work. Let me know!

    • if you HAVE a wireless card in your computer, you do not. if not you will need one if you wish to go wireless. BUT there are 4 10/100 ethernet ports in the back to wire directly.

    • If you have a newer laptop that has a wireless adapter built in, then you will not need one. Without knowing your current configuration, I would have no idea.

    • I suppose that this depends on if your computer supports WiFi? If you have WiFi installed in your computer, then you will not need an adapter. If, however, you do not have a computer that is able to connect to a WiFi network, then...yes, you need an adapter.

    • without a description of your computer nobody can answer that question. however if you have a fairly new laptop more then likely you will not need a adapter.

    • It depends on your laptop, really. Most modern laptops come with an adapter built-in.

So I still have my faithful Sony Vaio which has been with me for like 7 years.. i want to get a new machine but just can't at the moment, my NIC in my pc is a G, if i want to upgrade to N, can i just buy the USB adapter when I get the router?
    by jonb007
    • yes, but you will need a supported operating system.

    • this router is backwards compatible 802.11b/g/n what that means is your laptop will run fine on it
      by hawkeye1326
Was this answer helpful? (0) (0)
    • If your computer is set up for G, you will not be able to use N without upgrading your network adapter inside the PC or getting an external NIC card (which I assume is the USB adapter you are referring to). As long as you upgrade the computer by getting an N adapter, you will be able to use this router to receive N service.

    • I also have a Sony Vaio with a built-in wireless N adapter, and this router works flawlessly, great range & 150 mbps. Don't be concerned about your G card, wireless N routers like this one are made to work fine with the slower network configurations.
