Shorted Spark Plug (Briggs & Stratton)
5/7/2012

Customer review by ATillerTheHun

I was initially pleased with my purchase. A good value. However, on my third cut of the season (2012) the mower rpms dropped and the machine stopped running. Checked for gas. It had a full tank. I waited for the mower to cool and checked for compression and spark. Compression was good. Couldn't find a spark. Removed the top of the unit to check the Stator and spark plug wire for damage. None. I used an OHM meter and found the RJ2YLE spark plug was shorted. I put in an old RJ19LM and the machine started and ran well. I am a little concerned about the issue. It may be I simply got a bad spark plug or it may be that the Briggs & Stratton's new plug is of poor design/quality. I'm also concerned that I can't find a direct replacement for the new plug. Am hoping the RJ19LM is ok to use. I like the mower for its cutting and quieter engine. I hope this isn't an on-going problem.

Good mower, strong engine
8/9/2012

Customer review by Farminglife

4.0 stars 8/9/2012 by Farminglife

Have been using mower for a few months, mowing yard and field grass. The engine handles tall field grass with ease, though discharge chute does clog on ocassion. The bagger handles clippings well, and is easy to dump, though tall or wet grass will also tend to clog the chute. The multching feature may work well for short grass, though I rarely use it, as my grass is tall or damp, which tends to build up under the deck. After nearly 10 gal of gas, had trouble keeping engine running- Would run for less than an minute, then die. Ends up, the spark plug was fouled. Though not the OEM replacement, a J19LM plug got the mower going quite well. Trying to find the proper replacement plug RJ2YLE -New Champion # (799876) has been difficult. Have not tried a Briggs&Stratton repair shop yet, though neither auto parts stores or Wal-Mart seem to carry this spark plug yet. Hopefully, Wal-Mart will carry proper parts to support this strong mower soon.

Defective Spark Plug?
6/2/2012

Customer review by JustRon

After a few uses, my new mower worked perfectly. On about the 4th or 5th use, it started, ran for about 20 or 30 seconds and died. Full tank, primed it only three times, checked air filter for kicks (barely dirty at all), then after messing with it for a bit, I gave up and waited until the next day thinking maybe I flooded it by priming it more. Day 2 - Same thing. Started then died after less than a half minute. I checked and cleaned the spark plug, but nothing. Finally, I took the plug out of our old mower, put it in the new one and boom...fired right up on the first pull and ran perfectly. Out of curiosity, I put the original plug back in when I was finished, and a week later (today in fact) it would not stay running again. Put the old one from the other mower back in, and boom. Started on the first pull again. On a positive note, it runs nice when it stays running and I like the large real wheels. The bagger is easy to remove, empty and replace. The side chute though comes off sometimes during mowing. I'd still recommend it with an asterisk*

This mover is great, I have uneven lawn, this is where the high wheels come in. I just brought this mower and it's has a nice bagger simple to put together and attach. Comes basically together. You have to loosen the handle bolts to bring the handle bars up from under where the blades are. Just plain nice and simple. 2 year warranty included...Overall I love it.

Mowing in about 30 min from arrival at home
5/5/2013

Customer review by alzibiades

This lawn mower is a great buy for the price. After moving into a house after living in an apartment for almost 2 years, I needed a mower but I also didnt have much to spend. My yard is just shy of 1/2 acre with trees and stuff. This mower worked great. I was mowing in about 30 min after getting home with it. Easy to assemble what there is and easy to start. It started on the first pull after priming it. I would say that my yard size is probably about the size limit though. The rear bag is too small for a yard of my size. I only made 3 passes on my front yard and it was already full but I am going to try it again since this was the first mow of the season and the grass was starting to get tall and there was alot of leaves from the fall. The only major negative that I have against this mower is that the handle has no cushion or padding on it for a more enjoyable experience while pushing it. I ended up putting on some gloves to try and save my hands from the vibrations and offer some padding. But overall, I would give this mower high ratings so far.

  • A. It comes in a large box mostly preassembled but the handle is condenced to fit the box for shipping. And as I explained the tricky part is the handle next to the mower assembly coming up. That was the magic piece.

  • A. The main parts are together, you have to pull out the handle and tighten the knobs and add the bar. The only problem I had was not holding the bar while pulling the rope to bring it out of the mower. So watch it.

  • A. Yes. However you do have to straighten the handle and extend the handle out of the mowing deck. The instruction manual will walk you through that step by step with pictures. (No tools required for this process) You will also need to add gasoline and oil before first use. If you want to use the grass catcher (bag) you will need to snap the bag onto the metal frame. No tools required for this either. Preparing the lawn mower for first time use is about a 10 minute process that doesn't require any tools except your hands. Hope that helps.

  • A. I noticed this conflict too. I purchased this mower today (See review). It is the 150cc engine which is adequate for a puch mower. The 190cc engine is available on the self-propelled mowers which require more power to drive the machine.
