That depends on your TV tuner(s). The antenna just captures the radio frequency signals from the TV station transmitter - it doesn't care whether the signal is for analog or digital TV. The TV set contains an analog and/or digital tuner that gets the TV information from the broadcast signal, then allows the set to display that information. The converter box captures digital TV information and converts it to an analog signal that the TV tuner can work with. So you only need a converter box if your TV doesn't have a digital tuner - the antenna should work with either.

On a side note, most stations in our area are now broadcasting digital signals in the UHF band, instead of the VHF band as earlier. "Rabbit ears" are better for VHF signals, round or square/rectangular antennas work better for UHF. Outdoor antennas are better for more distant (over 20 miles?) transmitters.

Converter only needed for non-digital television.

If you have an older TV (not digital) than I understand that you need the converter box. Digital TV does not need the converter box.

Saw this elsewhere for more. Tried a few other types and this one performed best in our location. TV not HD and picture and color are better than expected.

Picked up all the local channels and most of them came in crystal clear. Was able to get two channels that were recently dropped by my cable company.

I get about 16 channels that come in great . . . Once you find the right position to place the antenna . . . on a window sill seems to work best . . .

Works better than expected . . .

I bought this for the guest room in my mother's house in a well-populated urban area, and it brought in 20 new channels I could not receive using a standard rabbit-ear antenna. The cable is nice and long, and the unit is a very convenient size, providing lots of flexibility for placement.

I spent $50 on a similar unit from Radio Shack and it is not as effective as this one when used in the same house. I love this antenna, I'll be buying another one!

Increased by Channels by 20!

I have Time Warner cable that only gives me 8 channels. I bought this antenna, and now have 37 channels. My TV now has all digital channels with great viewing. It was very easy to hook up. I can now cancel my cable service and get TV for free! It was a great investment, plus not very expensive. I love it and highly recommend it!!

I live in a condo and this antenna actually picks up neighbors direct tv! So I get a ton of channels without the cost of cable tv! Well worth it!

I only sent this back because the one I had , I had loaned out to s neighbor

On a scale of one to ten, I give this product a big zero.  It just does not work.  First of all I live in the city and there are several local TV stations within 10 - 15 miles of where I live.  The farthest one I can think of is about 20 miles out, yet I can get only three stations A N D none of the three come in properly.   THERE IS CONSTANT INTERRUPTIONS, BUZZES, PICTURE OUT ETC.ETC.ETC.   Mind you, this antenna is suppose to reach stations up to 40 miles away.   NOTE - The package information instructs not to take the product back to Walmart.  So, I am stuck with it because it will cost more to mail it back to the company than I paid for it.  I will never buy another electronic gadget online.  This was my first and LAST.
