Purchased last fall and wanted to see how it ran for a while before I reviewed it. First off at $94 (was $90 when I purchased but prices go up) you are not spending a mint so review accordingly. Pros: Comes with the easiest timer/motor I have ever programmed. It is very logical to set with many options. Comes with a hinged top and latch which makes filling much easier then a drum type with lid. Also seems to be much more weather proof then a metal drum. Cons: I can see the plastic being an issue if the little varmints get nasty enough to gnaw through it. So far have not seen any signs of that but will watch for it and hope a 22 is handy if I catch them in the act. I did make a varmint cage from the get go out of some 1" square wire mesh. I guess I would not be against it coming with one as long as it didn't increase the price. It could be said to have a bigger hopper and be sturdier but at the price point they are hitting I will not hold it against Moultrie. Bottom line: I'm purchasing another one this week (at $94) to replace a rusted out drum feeder with a worn out timer…that should say enough.

This feeder is light, easy to install and set up by my self. (I moved this feeder twice by my self.) Durable, plastic, easy to program. Only neg = doesnt boadcast feed a mile, but does broadcast about 6-12 feet from base. Could set this feeder up with shorter legs if you wanted, so operates live the easy fill version by same maker sold on this web site. I will buy this again. Have fun. Thanks for the great deal Walmart.

I now have three of these feeders and have sold off the other units I had. I get obsessed with potential purchases and I spent hours comparing different brands and types of feeders as well as cost. I have been very impressed with the Moultrie Pro Hunter from assembly and performance to battery life and available accessories. YOU CANT BEAT THIS PRODUCT AT THIS PRICE!

I bought this feeder to supplement deer and turkeys' diet on my 15-acre lot. After 3 months it continues to function flawlessly in spite of exposure to freezing rain, high winds, and multiple-day runs of some of the heaviest rainfall I recall; unlike some reviewers I have found absolutely no water leakage - the interior has remained bone-dry. I would have to wonder if those who had leakage have assembled it wrong. The battery seems to draw almost no power since after 3 months the gauge still registers at about 99% with one 15-second and one 9-second feed daily. The deer are there within 10 minutes after activation every day #and a family of crows start gathering in surrounding trees 5 minutes before, waiting for it...they must have wristwatches#. I think this is one of the best $99 I've spent on wildlife support. Though I want to keep established deer patterns on my land for fall hunting in the area it's also nice for viewing the does in the evenings. The feeder is easy to set up and manageable with one person, though a helper would really make setup a snap, since it is bulky. I recommend it if you're able to carry a lightweight ladder every so often to refill it from the top...a good and durable-looking well-made product.

Received from Walmart.com on November 16, 2013 for around $89.00 + tax discounted price. Placed 160 pounds of deer corn (also purchased from walmart for $8.00 per bag) and in less than 20 days it was all gone. According to the enclosed instructions from Moultrie it should have lasted around 3 to 3 1/2 months as I had the feeder programed to go off twice a day for three seconds each time. Called Moultrie at their toll free # (800) 653-3334. The call was answered in a timely manner and the person with whom I spoke to wanted to sell me a moultrie varmit guard for $29.99 + s&h, I declined the offer. In my opinion their customer service is not the best. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate maybe 4 at the very best. On December 3, 2013 I placed 80 pounds of deer corn in this Moultrie Feeder, and it was gone in 6 days. AT THIS RATE I WILL GO BROKE BUYING DEER CORN. Called Moultrie again and spoke to nicer agent this time. We again discussed the Moultrie Varmit Guard and she explicitly told me just a few days prior to my call, she was discussing the same issue with another customer, the Moultrie Varmit Guard. She went on to say she did Google searches on the Moultrie Varmit Guard and on a scale of 1-5, it was rated a 2.3 at best. She highly recommended against purchasing this Moultrie Varmit Guard. NOW THAT IS A GOOD HONEST CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE. She told my in her opinion all the Moultrie Varmit Guard would do would be to give squirrels and coon's something else to hold onto while taking all the corn out of the deer feeder. On December 9, 2013 I placed 40 pounds of deer corn in the feeder, and on December 17 I checked the status of corn in the feeder. After 8 days this time I would say about 60% of the corn was gone this time. The feeder was set to go off only ONE TIME PER DAY for ONE SECOND ONLY, and after 8 days around 24 pounds of the corn was gone. I inspected the Moultrie Pro Hunter 30-Gallon Tripod Game feeder very well on December 17, 2013 as well. I discovered what I would say was squirrels chewing a hole in the top lid near where it closes on the front of the feeder latch. The squirrels had also chewed in the read of the top lid near where it attaches in the rear of the feeder. On December 17, 2013 I added about 35 more pounds of feed in the feeder, as the squirrels had already taken about 5 pounds from this bag while it was sitting under a carport area. Will wait and see how long this corn should last. As of today has 16 pounds of corn + 35 pounds of corn in the feeder, for a total of 51 pounds. On December 17, 2013 I also went to Home Depot and bought some 1/2 inch hardware type cloth (made of metal with vinyl coating) and made my own Varmit Guard for this feeder. I also had enough left to place a piece on the top cover where the squirrels had been eating through the top feeder cover. At this point if I was still searching to purchase a Deer Feeder, I would personally avoid this one. Customer service for Moultrie not the best in my opinion. I would personally pay more and search for another feeder that is made of GOOD GAGE METAL that the varmints (squirrels) could not eat through. As a result of making the varmint guard for this deer feeder, the corn no longer dispenses in a 30 foot radius, it simply drops straight down between the tripod legs. Hopefully this 51 pound of corn will last a month or so this time around.

    • A. Timer is mounted pretty well protected under the barrel. You have to unscrew a wingnut on the the housing and remove it to get to the timer. If using solar recharger it does leave a gap where you run the wires into the housing.

    • A. I've owned several of these for years. Digital. This is the best timer I've come across. It's simple to use and I really think a child could do it. This is from memory now, but I should be fairly close. 1. Attach the battery and the timer will display the time for a few seconds and then the battery life... then back. 2. There are three buttons Up, Down, Set 3. You set the current time by using the Up and Down buttons (not hitting Set yet.) 4. Hit the set button and you go to your first feeding. Set the time you want it to happen with up and down buttons and hit set when you are done. The next display is duration of spread/spin in seconds 0-6 (I think). Hit set again and you go to the second feeding. 5. Repeat step 4 for any number of spreads/spins. If you only want to use 2 of the 6 available... just leave the remaining found at a 0 spin duration. 6. To test, when you are at a duration, hold the set button for 5 seconds, watch for a countdown to appear... 5,4,3,2,1 and it will go off. Hope this helps.
