Rated 5 out of 5★ by OGTate A beautiful gun at a great price I originally decided to buy this shotgun to get into bird hunting. I believe the gun cost $249.99, which was about $50 cheaper than the Remington 870 Express. This gun is a great starter shotgun for anyone looking to get into bird hunting or just shooting clay pigeons without dropping a ton of money. I love the polished barrel and the fished wood, which the 870 Express does not have. It has a beautiful gold trigger, but is surrounded by a plastic trigger guard. The plastic trigger guard is probably the cheapest part on this gun. The safety and the pump release are in the most convenient locations. It also comes with 3 chokes and a lock. As well as being pre-drilled for a possible scope attachment if you choose to turn it into a slug gun. I wish it would of came with a rifled choke, but oh well. Overall I'm more than satisfied with this shotgun. I was hesitant in buy a Mossberg but now feel that it was money well spent. 09/11/2012

Rated 5 out of 5★ by ShotgunBubba A lot of gun for a small price I saw this model at my local Wal Mart and, after a recommendation from a friend, I just couldn't pass it up. This is a great shotgun for bird hunting or shooting clay targets right out of the box. The price of 12 gauge ammo is still very reasonable and I picked up a 100 round box for around $24. For less than $300 (and that included taxes) I was all set. The best part is that it's made in the USA! If you are looking for a great all-purpose shotgun without dropping a ton of money, this is the one to get! 11/20/2012
Rated 5 out of 5★ by Deerhunter70 Like its brother Maverick 88 I was looking for the maverick 88 12G shotgun but since it was out of stock, I bought this shotgun instead as my wife first gun so she can experience hunting for the first time. What can I say, well excellent price and performance. It comes with the full set of Accu-choke tubes. She loved it. We've been hunting almost every weekend with regular shells and slugs as well. You will not be disappointed. If you go to the Lewis center Wal-Mart near Delaware in central Ohio, ask for "Dutch", he is the gentleman who sold us this beauty. He is one of the most knowledgeable person that you will find around when talking about firearms and hunting. Thanks "Dutch" 12/11/2012
Rated 5 out of 5★ by FixHuntFish Great first gun or only gun The Mossberg 500 is a great example of the American pump shotgun. WalMart has the best price on it.My only "complaint" if you can call it that, is that not all WalMart stores sell firearms, so check first.I had a Remington 870 which is also a great gun - but they are no better and cost more.Advantage of the Mossberg is the thumb safety on top is ambidextrous. With any shotgun you can hunt small game, birds, or load in a slug and shoot deer. With a pump you can also exchange the barrel for a rifled barrel. I bought a Mossberg slug barrel with attached scope for deer. Other pump guns will do this too, but I like the Mossberg arrangement better. In addition, the barrel is interchangeable with the Mossberg Maverick 88, another cheaper gun. My son has one of those and it's handy sometimes. If you only have one gun, this is a good choice. 12/15/2012
Rated 5 out of 5★ by HappywithMossberg Good price, Came with a few bells and whistles I purchased the Mossberg 500 w28" barrel feild version. I really wanted the Rem. 870. The one thing that Moss has over Rem is that the slide release is behind the trigger guard, when you grip the stock its right there at your finger tip. the gun came with a vented barrel 2 different chokes and a Moss Lock. I like the look and feel of the gun. I also thought "Well, I'll be hunting in the cold wet winter and it'll probably get wet along the way." I would hate to spend the extra money to get it wet or frozen or rained on. Save your money and buy the Mossberg, You won't be disapointed! They also make a MAverick 88 model (home defender) with 8 shot 20" barrel I've got on a Christmas list 10/05/2014
